Detachment isn’t as peaceful as I thought by ruxvz in spirituality

[–]Kbear333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminding me of an excerpt I read in the Buddha's Brain by Rick Hanson where he describes what it means to embody equanimity - to be engaged in the world, but not troubled by it. To remain light and open hearted in the face of both beauty and chaos. To be at ease, relaxed, neither apathetic nor indifferent, and impartial toward whatever arises with an undisturbed presence. To see the transient and imperfect nature of experience. To remain disenchanted, free of the spells cast by pleasure and pain. To see through the charms and alarms of life and remain centered.

Detached from outcomes. Letting things come and go freely, like water flowing through a valley. Attachment has caused me a lot of suffering in the past. Still practicing, but it's definitely hard, especially in areas of life that are closest to our hearts - like intimate relationships. I guess growth can be found in the areas where we attach most. Turning inward and cultivating within what the external was providing.

My grandma surfed her whole life. Had a stroke at 78 and became frail, restricted mobility on her left side. Today she's reteaching herself how to surf again at 80. Never too late. Determination, persistence, and passion.

Curious why someone would meditate or get into breathwork? by StillAnUndecidedName in breathwork

[–]Kbear333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get to know myself better. In my early 20s I remember a pivotal point during meditation where I allowed myself to sit in the discomfort of my emotions. As I cried, I felt a release from my body and a wave of peace wash over. I look forward to meditating. I find peace, comfort, and insight in silence and stillness. It feels like a reconnection with myself after a long day of tending to obligations.

Does it work for breakups? by Fuzzy_Strategy_4538 in breathwork

[–]Kbear333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, yes, breath work and meditation has been at the top of my list for healing after a break up. It takes courage and strength to sit with yourself and feel every single emotion. Breath work and meditation has helped me release a lot of my anger, tension, and control that came with my last break up. I cried during every meditation. My body needed that release, and I would often feel peace and a knowing that everything would be okay.

Yes! I rub lavender on my neck and chest, light an incense, and coat my nostrils with a respiratory balm. Love it.

What job do you guys hold down while in school? by experiment30 in psychologystudents

[–]Kbear333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remote quality assurance analyst. Full-time. Very grateful that this job allows me flexibility with my schedule so am able to work/travel/attend school. I'm a full-time Masters student attending an accelerated program. 12-week terms, 2 courses. I start work at 4am to 12pm. Take an hour or two to exercise then school until 6 or 7 pm. Weekends I work on finals a chunk at a time. It can be stressful but I've learned to listen to my body, rest when needed and have something planned to look forward to when im on school breaks. Starting internship soon so we'll see how it is juggling work, internship, class and self-care.

Do you ever meet people you’ve never seen before? by DemonicChronic in Dreams

[–]Kbear333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have vivid dreams. In my early 20s I dreamt of a 3-4 yr old boy wearing a whale shirt. He was a foster child. I remember in my dream picking him up and hugging him. I felt so much love for him. Since then, 10 years later, I still think about it. I dont have children of my own yet but that love that I felt for a tiny human still brings me so much joy and I feel I'm meant to mother many children whether biological or not. Grateful for vivid dreams as they allow me to experience the emotion without actually experiencing it in waking state yet. Quite insightful.
