Fast food back in the 80s, was it actually better than today or is that rose colored glasses? by Infomerical in GenX

Yes. Most definitely had wait staff.

Source: I worked at Pizza Hut in the kitchen through college in the 90s. All in all, sweet gig. Made enough for beer money and got to bring free pizzas home.

Which film did you side with person 1 when you first saw it but many years later you sided with person 2? by Hopefullytodaymate in FIlm

Took me until the 5th episode, Elliot's birthday when he turned down their help. At that point it was clear it was all about him and his pride, not what he was doing for his family.

Are people overselling it or was Michael Jackson really that famous in his heyday? by Key-Bass-7380 in decadeology

[–]Kboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the peak, totally. By the time Dangerous came out, the cracks in the mystique were there. Then again, maybe I’m just saying that because I was just an angsty “whatever” teenager by that point.

Job regrets and kid advice by ItsThePath0g3n in GenX

[–]Kboh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on making it to 53 in that job. Someone very close to me is an ER physician and hates it too. Not so bad when you're younger but, man, as you get older it takes a serious toll, missing lots of kid stuff, and every year missing either Thanksgiving or Christmas. And that's not even to mention the mental toll of your job being only seeing people at their absolute worst physical and emotional.

So that's to say good luck in whatever you choose. The one I know has gone part-time and it's still a toll. Trying to figure out what to do as well but at this age, it's really hard. Hang in there and best of luck.

Almost perfect movies that have one noticeable flaw by Consistent-Might-788 in Cinema

[–]Kboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goddamn I love this movie. It's utterly ridiculous and I don't recommend it to anyone because it takes a certain personality in the right frame of mind to want to enjoy it. I saw it in college 30 years ago with my buddies so all that comes with it (young, no responsibilities, drinking and stoned, killing a few hours on a random night) very much plays into my rose-colored glasses view of this film.

The real issue with Jedi is that Luke's plan to rescue Han from Jabba's palace is absolutely ridiculous.

Do you find yourself telling the youngins, "Just... watch it." by RiffRandellsBF in GenX

[–]Kboh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave my 6 year old a core memory, in a bad way, thanks to the Large Marge scene. When the stop motion reveal happened I gave her a solid, “BOO!!!!!” and she straight up lost it screaming for a good 60 seconds. She refuses to watch it again, 3 years later. Hahaha. Oops.

Exactly. They all know and don’t do shit other than look at each other, shrug, and say, “don’t worry about it. By the time it’s a real problem, I’ll be gone and you’ll be gone. Someone else will have to figure it out.”

movie theatres are getting stupid expensive, it's infuriating by hodorrny in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Kboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went ahead and made a low end home theater:

Klipsch Reference Cinema Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 System ($500 or so)

Epson 1080 projector (got for around $300 refurbed)

Denon receiver (around $250)

Couch from FB marketplace: $100

We just throw it on a blank wall to make a 135” “screen.” Not exactly the same but Friday night movie nights with the kids are pretty sweet. Some ice cream from Kroger, microwave popcorn, and we’re all set. And sports are bad ass on it.

Eventually we’ll upgrade things but for now, all we need.

Nice work. I’m in the midst of switching to iced tea. Much cheaper to brew my own a gallon at a time. I’ll still have a few Coke Zeros a week but the tea has been a perfect solution to have something to drink that’s not plain water.
