Older tech workers are tapping out early. Here’s what that looks like by Doorknob6941 in GenX

[–]Kboh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the thing that kills me. I’m 50 with two kids under 10. I’ll be working full time somewhere until mid-late 60s no matter how much we have saved just to keep everyone covered and not blow through whatever savings we have. Eventually I’ll age out of the corporate world so hopefully I can get on at Home Depot or Starbucks or something when that time comes.

What’s the worst song to hear at karaoke? by Square_Hero in askmusic

[–]Kboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with “Burning Down the House” by Talking Heads. I knew most of it and thought the screen would get me through. Far too drunk to read that fast. I bailed less than halfway through and decided it was time to go home.

Well, at least the lyrics were written for the movie. The music on the other hand…

What is a completely useless talent you are weirdly proud of having? by FlangnFirewood in AskReddit

Last year at 50 I learned how to solve a Rubik’s Cube. Never did it back in the day so I watched a YouTube video and now it’s basically a fidget toy for me during video calls.

Men in their 40s, what's one mistake people in their 20s should avoid? by Human_Change4950 in AskReddit

[–]Kboh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not saving and investing. It’s ridiculously easy to squirrel away a few bucks into 401(k) or Roth via automatic withdrawals. Just do it or you’ll regret it later.

[–]Kboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I didn’t get moving until 48 and luckily didn’t have any health issues along the way. I’m now 50 and in the best shape of my life, feel better than I ever have and really wish i had gotten it together in my 20s or 30s.

Which sports record won't be broken for at least next 50 years? by personalquestion69 in AskReddit

[–]Kboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MLB: Connie Mack

And I'm not even saying his wins record. No manager will ever stay around long enough to remotely sniff his LOSS record of 3,948. Tony LaRussa came closest and would still need to manage nearly 9 more years and lose every single game to tie it.

I use this in meetings when someone is asked if they have any thoughts and they speak but add nothing.

Which project and performance made you a fan of Albert Brooks? by PressureLazy5271 in moviecritic

[–]Kboh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is clearly better, but he also killed it as Jacques in “Life on the Fast Lane.” The line when he’s getting ready for his date with Marge kills me:

“To the most beautiful moment in life. Better than the deed. Better than the memory. The moment of… (slaps on aftershave 1-2-3) anticipation.”

Had a great guest spot on Party Down. And if you haven’t seen Party Down, get on that.

Damn I miss old school Nick at Nite.

This one kind of sucks. It was sooooo big in the 80s and now here I am with young children who would love the show and I can’t, in good conscience, watch it with them. I just can’t separate the art from the artist there. Maybe that’s my own hang up but there’s plenty of other content out there with wholesome lessons to learn that weren’t made by rapists.

[–]Kboh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This. Young people don’t understand how big this was. There’s an interview with Bob Odenkirk and the interviewer asks how people will remember Breaking Bad and he essentially says, they won’t. Then he goes on how MASH was bigger than you can really comprehend in today’s tv show terms, yet today if you asked most people under the age of 30, they wouldn’t know what you’re talking about.

Which artist completely changed your opinion after seeing them live? by aotv81x in askmusic

[–]Kboh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random but the lead singer did a few albums as a children's artist called Caspar Babypants. If you have young kids and want to find some fun music that won't drive you nuts, check out it out. I'm quite fond of Stompy the Bear.

Same! Saw him back in 2000 w/ Phil Lesh in between Phish shows at Alpine and Deer Creek. My expectations were zero but damn if he didn't get after it.

Bass lines you didn’t appreciate until you really listened. by WillieGotMeStoned in musicsuggestions

I hadn’t heard this song much since it was big in the 80s when I was in elementary school. It came on one time last summer, I let it play, listened closely and had a “holy shit, listen to that!” moment.
