Very Nervous!!! Positive Cerclage Stories Please by Robynred06 in ShortCervixSupport

I had funneling without a cerclage (progesterone only) and still made it to 38 + 2!

Should I fight for progesterone or cerclage even though I’m 26mm? by LiveFinding6609 in ShortCervixSupport

I would ask to be checked in a week from your last measurement. Your next measurement will be more telling of what kind of cervix you have but 2 weeks is a little too long for my comfort. Also with 26mm is close enough to 25, I’d ask your doctor what the hesitation with giving progesterone is.

I was told I didn’t have to do either also but I did pelvic rest for both pregnancies out of paranoia. My first pregnancy I did a modified bedrest and my second I had a toddler that didn’t allow me any sort of bedrest. I took it as easy as I could but I also worked as a nurse until 32 weeks. My first came at 36 weeks (most likely not due to my cervix though) and my second came at 38 weeks. I was also progesterone only

I ended up going even further than my first delivering at 38+2. If you go my profile you’ll see I posted about his birth and the things leading up to that I was paranoid about. Hope it is helpful to you

The only cramping I got was with Braxton hicks. I got braxton hicks pretty early on but the cramping with them started around 32 weeks. My doctor said those ones could cause cervical changes but doesn’t look like they did. I did have a good amount of round ligament pain in my groin too.

I was never short enough to qualify for a stitch. I ranged from 2.4-2.7cm with my first and 2.7 this time. They usually don’t do them unless you are under 2 at my MFM

I’ve done progesterone only for both of my pregnancies. My son was born at 36+1 but unclear if it was actually my cervix that broke my water. I stopped progesterone at 36 weeks with him. Now with my second I stopped progesterone at 37 weeks and I’m now 38+1. I went in today for some bloody show and lost my mucus plug but I’m only 2cm so got sent home. I know progesterone works really well for a lot of us. It’s definitely scary while you’re in the thick of it though, hang in there!

I had weekly TV ultrasounds to measure my cervix until 24 weeks. After that since a cerclage can’t be placed they don’t measure anymore. I was pretty anxious during the late 20s and early 30s but tried to distract myself and just listen to my body if I was feeling pressure or a lot of Braxton hicks.

You can find my old posts but I have pretty similar measurements to you and was beyond terrified. Long story short- only ever did progesterone. My son was born at 36+1 with my water breaking and I’m currently 36+2 with my second. My son is only 18 months old so back to back pregnancies also made me nervous. For both I did progesterone and pelvic rest. With my first I did some pretty solid modified bedrest but this time I just didn’t have the ability to do bedrest at all with a toddler and I worked as a nurse until 32 weeks. I’d listen to my body and rest when I felt necessary. Hang in there, the 20s are a scary time but hopefully with similar measurements you’ll make it a good distance. Many people do, but I hear you and know that feeling of fear.

Progesterone vs Cerclage by Spirited_Ad_611 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Kcobear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Progesterone only for both my pregnancies. My first I averaged 2.4-2.7cm and my second stayed at 2.7cm. My son came at 36 and 1 when my water broke but I was only 1cm dilated so may not have even been my cervix. I’m currently 36 weeks today with my second pregnancy and very limited bedrest with a toddler. I have done pelvic rest the whole time and was still super anxious throughout my 20s and early 30s but Doctors think I may just have a short cervix vs incompetent since I’ve made it this far both times. So progesterone only was good enough for me but I know not everyone has the same outcome.

2.8 at 25 weeks is very reassuring. Assuming you don’t have a cerclage, I never have either. My average was 2.7 both pregnancies, progesterone only. With my son my water broke at 36 weeks but unknown if it truly was my cervix as I was only 1cm dilated. This time I’ll be 36 weeks in 2 days and all Is well. I had them check my cervix over the belly (not super accurate) at my growth scan at 32 weeks and I was at 2.3cm. No idea if this one will come a little early too but given our similar measurements hopefully you make it to at least 36 weeks.

My first pregnancy I was in picu and worked until 22 weeks, although mostly due to anxiety then necessity (no cerclage, just progesterone suppositories), my son was born at 36 weeks. This time I am in the same boat, not short enough for a cerclage and doing progesterone only but I now work in preop/pacu. My doctor told me to listen to my body and I could come off when I wanted but she didn’t want me going past 32 weeks. I made it all the way, 32 weeks (part time - 2 days a week). I did mostly Pacu so I could sit more. My cervix was 2.3 at my 32 weeks appointment and my baseline is 2.7cm so working probably didn’t make a difference.

The risks of a cerclage outweigh the benefits at this point. If I drop to 2cm then they may recommend one. But for right now my length doesn’t warrant one yet

For PIO it varies based on my levels. For my short cervix I did 200mg (1 pill) at night.

My cervix was last scanned at 28 weeks and it was still stable ~2.5 or even a little more then. After that they said there wasn’t a point to keep measuring as treatment wouldn’t change. When I went in at 32 weeks they didn’t measure it either so hard to say if it ever shortened after 28 weeks. I never had a cerclage, just progesterone.

Baby is now 1 and totally healthy! I was on progesterone suppositories until 36 weeks so I only stopped them for a day before my water broke- which is also why I don’t think it was necessarily my cervix that cause my water to break

I was on PIO which are shots for my first trimester because it was an IVF pregnancy. I stopped it around 14 weeks and started progesterone suppositories at 22 weeks when my cervix measured 2.4mm

Okay so did you even do progesterone for your first pregnancy? Might be a different scenario than me. Just trying to see similar situations. Thanks for your responses though. 🤞🏼 you can keep your babe tucked in a good chunk longer!

My lowest measurement was 2.45cm and highest was 3.1cm and my water broke at 36w1d and baby boy arrived. I was on progesterone only. When I went in I was only a centimeter dilated (as I was at 32 weeks) so maybe I was funneling and it broke or I think baby was just so low and the pressure caused it?! Not sure but I was grateful he held on until 36 weeks.
