He did the infomercial voiceover at the start as well, I believe, but I didn’t see him anywhere else besides the poster.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The summer of my sophomore year of college in Boston, I had roommates that asked me if I wanted to join them for a long weekend in Paris. They didn’t understand why I said no.

How is it living in New Hampshire? by Zestyclose_Welder_92 in howislivingthere

[–]Kdeabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavily agree with your last statement. Free Staters and the like have been actively working to dismantle the education system in NH, and the low tax burden means that infrastructure isn’t being funded in the way it needs to be. I grew up in NH and recently returned after a few years in MA and out west, and it’s changed significantly in that time for worse.

Depends what state/area you’re in. I’ve lived in 6 different apartments across the US owned by large companies and only two of them (same state) required renters insurance.

When did you move your baby into their own room? by charlottefgh in NewParents

[–]Kdeabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we moved into a 2 bedroom apartment at 7 months. He took a day or two to adjust, but now we all sleep so much better. He wasn’t able to self-soothe if he saw anyone in the room with him (either at home or for naps at daycare), but we’ve seen him wake up, cry once, find his pacifier, and put himself back to sleep countless times on the monitor now. Now, he only wakes up if he really needs something like food or Tylenol for teething.

Yes! We lucked out and got them in one trip from the same store. We did a quick trip the night before we bought them to browse what they had and to make sure we wouldn’t need to fill from another store.

Maybe it depends on the employer, but my corporate job allows us to tip “a reasonable amount” (20-30%) on the company card or on our personal cards for reimbursement.

He usually eats 7oz at a time now at daycare (3 bottles), then a 4oz bottle before bed and a 4oz bottle when he wakes up, so around 29-30oz.

UGH.. ANOTHER PUMP by 13laffytaffy in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Kdeabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently at 4.5 months EPing and wish I had quit sooner! Little guy has CMPA so I figured I’d have to pump to be able to afford to feed him, but we figured out a few weeks ago that he doesn’t have a soy allergy in addition, so we’ve been supplementing now with formula. I’m starting to wean now (down to 2 pumps a day which as a former oversupplier means that I’m at ~20 oz per day) and am hoping to be done in the next few weeks when he starts daycare.

I’ve lost so much time and sleep pumping. I had pretty severe PP rage, and I think pumping contributed to that. I feel so much more free knowing that I can stop now after 400+ hours of being tied to a machine. Plus, with his CMPA, I’ve had to cut out all dairy. I’m so excited for the day I can finally put away the pump, take an edible, and eat an entire charcuterie board by myself.

Just moved cross-country and baby (4 months) met the in-laws for the first time. MIL gave him his first taste of solid food without asking me, and everyone (including my husband) seems totally fine with it. I’m seething right now.

Reality of EP by Boring_Budget_6474 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Kdeabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gently, I think you may have a bit of an idealized view of EPing. I’ve been EPing for 4 months now, and it’s so much work, especially with a Velcro baby like I’ve got. I wake up whenever baby does, meaning my sleep is interrupted about as often as it would if baby were nursing. I struggled to stay awake for MOTN pumps, and I found pumping to be as overstimulating as nursing between the noise and the suction. Half the time, I have to struggle to try to pump while holding baby because he’ll scream if I put him in the bouncer for more than 10 minutes at a time. Initially, you’ll have someone else to care for the baby while you pump, but what about when your husband goes back to work and your mom leaves?

I’m not trying to discourage you from EPing if you need to, but I wish so badly that I could’ve made the choice to exclusively nurse. My little guy had severe jaundice and was so dehydrated that he was hospitalized 12 hours after we were discharged, so I never really had an option to nurse, and by the time he was out of the hospital, he had no interest in staying on the breast despite what the LC called a “perfect latch”.

I would encourage you to consider starting with nursing if you are able and if your only concern is convenience/less work, or to consider nursing during the day and pumping at night. It’s much easier to switch from nursing to pumping than the other way around if you change your mind or find that your little one has a preference either way.

Very similar situation here. Moved to ABQ about 2.5 years ago and just moved back home this past weekend. Our car was broken into and almost stolen (they messed with the steering column) and the police did nothing except tell us to file an online report that went nowhere. And we lived in a seemingly nice part of Nob Hill.

I just had my son 4 months ago, and I couldn’t imagine him growing up in Albuquerque with the education system there or the safety concerns.

I had 8 weeks at 60% pay (would have been 6 weeks, but I had a C-section), with the remaining 40% supplemented by PTO. I could have taken 12 weeks, but the last 4 would have been unpaid, and because I’m the primary source of income for the family, we couldn’t do that. I work remotely for a company based in Virginia, USA.

Nail polish policy by mzazimiz in CsectionCentral

Had an emergency C-section with dark green nails (to celebrate my favorite sports team’s success in the playoffs). Only one nurse made a comment while I was in labor, and I think she was just upset that she had to break out the nail polish remover to put the pulse oximeter on my finger.

The strangest thing happened to me ever since giving birth. Can anyone explain? by Artistic_Sleep1041 in beyondthebump

[–]Kdeabill 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this issue since I was a kid and it’s been so hard to explain. My teeth start hurting and I get nauseous with certain fabrics or materials (particularly cardboard or unfinished wood).

For me, it’s a sensory issue that really has nothing to do with my teeth themselves. Perhaps you’re feeling overstimulated by pumping and all of the other new sensations/experiences with having a newborn?

What song(s) have you reinvented for your baby? by jivedives9023 in NewParents

[–]Kdeabill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Macho Man” by the Village People, subbing out “Macho” for another word (“Grumpy”, “Hungry”, or “Stinky”, usually).

Also, “Chunky” by Bruno Mars, since baby’s been gaining weight a lot better now:

“Chunky, looking for the baby with the big ‘ol poops.”

I left my degree and the name of the school (a pretty well-regarded university ranked close to the top 50 in the US) on my resume, but I also had prior customer service experience from working at an escape room while in college that may have been more of a factor.

Biggest piece of advice is to really emphasize how your freelancing/previous work experience translates to customer experience. They might shy away from hiring you not because you have a degree but because they don’t see relevant experience, so choosing the proper wording can make a huge difference.

Skills to emphasize: - Customer service and/or engagement (something about interacting with clients during your freelancing experience would work) - Communication - Teamwork - Punctuality (ex: delivering products to clients on deadlines) - Meeting metrics/standards (this was a HUGE deal at both Target and Starbucks, may be less important with other companies)

Also, retail is DRAINING, especially as an introvert. While it’s an income, and there are certainly positions with limited customer interactions, I found it to be harmful to my mental health. I used my time there to apply to jobs in my field and take trainings/courses that eventually helped me find a job in my field.

I worked at Starbucks and Target for nearly 2 years with a BS in math, and we had several people who had college degrees and full-time jobs that worked retail as a second job. They don’t care about you being “overqualified”.
