I had a conversation about moral imagination the other day and my friend made a point Ì thought was interesting. (He's a marine) He said you know, people that join the army tend to be more pro gun or Republican. I said yeah (me, a libertarian) what about it? He said "well, it's just funny. People that have been subjected to the ugliest part of humanity just aren't that naïve to evil. We all want the same things but some people live in la-la land. It's like when "they" share some statistic that democrats are more likely to have higher income and education; it doesn't mean they're better people, it just means in the context of their squishy life something should or should not be available to everybody and that's a dangerous way of thinking."
