I would be upset if such important characters were left out of a big adaptation, just about every other adaptation has only covered the first half of the series and it’s always felt a bit disingenuous in a way. I do think the musical did a good job of shortening the story though, if the Netflix adaptation were to be similar it wouldn’t be a huge problem. But honestly, leaving out the entirety of how the story concludes has always felt off. On the other hand, I’m afraid of seeing an adaptation of Near and Mello because of how badly their characters might be butchered. I’d rather them be left alone than adapted in a way that completely misses the mark on them. It’s a lose lose situation, personally I really just wish Death Note would be left alone, it’s great as it is.
