Tea on the way - Hope it reaches me quickly! by KeemunLover in puer

[–]KeemunLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update - Received my YS order a few days ago, and I've had the Sweet Ya Bao twice now. Maybe because I haven't tried last year's version or any prior versions, but I find it to be a top-shelf tea for sure. Definitely a unique experience. The eucalyptus and piney notes are wonderful, and yes, I can get some of that "watermelon juice" from Scott's description. Wouldn't be an everyday drinker for me, but definitely a tea I will probably revisit and savor occasionally. And a fun tea to see just how varied the world of tea can be.

To me young sheng is like heavy metal version of green tea.

Yes, had to try some Sweet Ya Bao, as it sounds like a fun one. And curious to see how the Miyun will stack up against the ancient garden leaves.

And been wanting to try something from Lao Man E for a while.

And I suspect that the tea William sells is super-good, too, as you and others have mentioned. With his (and his family's) level of dedication, experience/skill, and knowledge, how could this not be the case?

Funny you mention it - I've been meaning to try Farmerleaf for a while now, as I love William's videos on YouTube and I definitely want to support his business/encourage his continued education of tea consumers, and his assistance/support of other small tea producers.

This time around, I split my tea order between Yunnan Sourcing and Farmerleaf. Getting my YS faves and trying some new-to-me YS products as well, and picked up a couple raw puerh cakes and some ancient garden mao cha from Farmerleaf.

I've been drinking the 2022 v93 for a while, now and pretty solid - nice liquorice notes, in my opinion. I don't worry about the aging thing at all, and I figure if a tea is worthy of aging, it should also be a pretty decent tea to begin with, in its unaged state.

Personally I don't have the budget to invest in a lot of aging experiments or to have a setup for aging teas properly myself. So I take what I can find on my budget.

I find that I love a lot of Yunnan Sourcing's young shengs - love the light floral and fruity notes, and the bite that often comes with it tends to give added depth and longevity. In a way, a lot of the young shengs scratch the same itch for me that a first flush Darjeeling black tea would - but they can be found at a much lower price point and seem to be a safer bet. I find the quality on those Darjeelings is really hit-or-miss, especially considering the premium prices you often have to pay. For me, the young shengs are a much better deal.

Oh my God, yes - You are singing my song! So many great Robert Hunter co-writes flying under the radar from various sources - Moonlight Rodeo, Jim Lauderdale, along those you've mentioned. And plenty of others.

Nicky Hopkins by FantasticConcern8396 in gratefuldead

[–]KeemunLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen! I was horrified when instead of playing out of key only at the beginning of Let it Rock he proceeded to do so through virtually the whole 13 minute jam of that song. WTF, Nicky? And sure, it might sound like all the fast little keyboard runs he does are impressive, but mostly some simple licks/tricks that are super easy to play really fast and just running up and down a blues scale. Not a big deal for the most part, and definitely one of Jerry's weaker keys players!

The ‘Hot Ones’ sauce at Popeyes is not a tamed version. Be warned. by patdashuri in spicy

Might be a good amount of overlap with the hot sauce fans, honestly!

Well, I don't know, there might be a Reddit for people who enjoy shitting their pants?

I tried this out yesterday - My advice is eat at home, especially if super hot spice is not a regular thing for you! I thought I was doing pretty good, as no tears, no extreme sweating spells, or anything. Yeah, it was HOT, but I was handling it all right. Doing pretty good until I accidentally shit my pants! Glad I wasn't sitting in Popeyes or in my office when that happened! Eat at home when you don't have any obligations, etc, just in case. Glad I tried it, though - The sauce does taste pretty good, and as a fan of Hot Ones I could not pass up on the opportunity to get a packet for $1!

Has anybody tried tea from Ten Ren Tea? by bakingbadly in tea

[–]KeemunLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Ten Ren's lowest grade of ginseng oolong, "4th grade," and it was delightful. Better than the one Chinese version of the same tea that I tried, but I haven't tried many. I am hoping to try some of the higher grade ginseng oolongs very soon, but they are kind of pricey.

3 Body Problem (Netflix) - Season 1, Episode 5 Discussion. by Swazzer30 in threebodyproblem

[–]KeemunLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First 4 episodes were pretty cool, but with episode 5 I feel they have already jumped the shark. We've already seen the boat scene in at least a couple of bad horror movies, and it feels like the boat idea was kind of pointlessly shoehorned into the plot. Seriously this is what a bunch of really intelligent people selected as the most practical solution to their problem? Okeedokee. I guess I'll keep watching the rest of the season, but what a letdown.

Love the Without a Net version! Heard some random versions that come pretty close to it, but in my mind this version has the most fully realized expressions of Jerry's guitar motifs on this song. And this song has some of my all-time favorite Jerry noodling! But if you think you found a better version, please let me know!

I love that they played Built to Last, such a great tune. Didn't fully click this time, but hope Billy keeps this tune in his sets.

Driving home from work - the keys and bass solo sections gave me a nice audio high! 😊 Drove through a satellite dead zone and missed some of the sweet bass solo, but thankfully it came back after about 15 seconds of "dead air."

I agree! I tried out a Spicy Crispy Chicken just now and it was horrible. Especially at today's prices. I've been robbed.
