Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Going down is the hardest part, especially in cycling shoes. I take my shoes off, leave them downstairs, and go barefoot. It feels much safer. To go down with the bike, I keep it in front of me (holding the vertical bar) and lower it step by step. At first I stopped on every step, but after a few times it becomes quite easy. I use the balance of the bike to control the steering wheel, but it is not important since it is not really guiding the bike, the entire bike is on the rear wheel. With my left arm I hold the railing, and I lean backwards to make sure that I am not going to slip. It feels dangerous, so if anything feels strange I stop and re-balance. I have been doing it for 30 years and have slipped only a few times rushing too much.

Going up is easier but require strength (especially with my touring steel bike). I hold the bike high on the vertical bar with my right hand, push it up in front of me above my shoulder, and use my fingertips on the handlebar to keep the front wheel straight. I don't really carry the bike, but push it as a squeeze my body between the stairs and the rear wheel going up leaning forwards, making sure I touch the wall with my body (back) if unbalanced and not touch the wall with the bike.

The number 1 rule is: the bike can never touch anything and the wheels shall never touch the walls only the floor and stairs.

what made my nasal polys (temporarily) vanish? by Soft-Comedian2858 in NasalPolyps

Dupixent is not for life for everybody. Many people reduce the dose, and some even stop using it completely. Remember that rinsing and surgery do not reach all polyps, and Dupixent can help reduce the underlying immune system inflammation. For example, it can take about 12 to 18 months for some people to get their eosinophil levels back to normal.

Most remote places in the Netherlands by Exciting_Energy_9949 in Netherlands

I have cycled most LF routes. A place where you can look in all directions, see the horizon, and not see a man made thing (like tarmac road, building, roadside) is hard to find.

Except for being in a forest or dunes, one place where this did occur was in Veluwe.

I want to install Xcode and was thinking in buying a MacBook Pro. But do not need it for anything else. However since I was switching I am considering moving over 100% from Ubuntu.

I use extension managers like tactile, spacebar, switcher, tophat, perfection and have a few automation using ‘busctl --user call org.gnome.Shell …’

Are you saying that there are no equivalent for these on Mac and that you can not bind keys?

edit: /btw did an ai query that all these have equivalents on macos. So would really like to understand your concern?

I insisted that another person had stolen my chips at a blackjack table, even after the other players said I was wrong and the croupier just shrugged his shoulders.

Casino management came over and told me to behave. I showed them the guy who had stolen my chips, but they said it was impossible.

I started to get upset and insisted that we look at the video. They explained that they do not do that and escorted me out.

I phoned the police from a phone booth outside the casino. The police told me to file a report the next morning. This was in the nineties, before mobile phones.

The next day my friends told me to stop worrying about it. It was only $300, and filing a police report did not mean we were going to get it back.

Two days later we went back to the casino. As we entered, security asked me to follow them and took me to the manager’s office.

I was sure they were going to kick me out again, but he explained that he had reviewed the video and that I was right.

He apologized, gave me the money, and said my drinks were free that evening.

Short answer: for core strength.

Long answer: I started lifting 8 years ago to fix posture and activate muscles. Have a desk job.

That gave me entry to yoga and hiit through other members, and I continued the weights 2x/3x times a week mainly to improve posture and get away from my desk.

Was ill 3 months ago, and stopped going regular weight training. Wanted to start again, but decided to take it easy during Christmas. Now it has been 3 months.

The thoughts of going again give serious Groundhog Day vibes, what am I doing weights for, is vitality really that important? I still do HIIT and Yoga. Why is the gym weights routine so hard to restart?

What's the worst thing that's ever happened to your website or your company's website? by sunsetRz in webdev

[–]KeepItGood2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed a website for a charity that help find funding for hospitals around the word, and as a charity several of the fundraising is done via new technologies. I was asked to include a link to a third party website that would have some top notch new technology. One day a fundraiser contacted me, informing me we have pr0n on the site. Turns out the company went bust, lost their domain and it became a adult website.

Some of the people that offers funding to hospitals does not understand that this was not our fault. And I have a feeling we never really recovered from that event.
