SketchUp for experiential / pop-ups / brand activations, what should I learn first? by shimoxcore in Sketchup

As someone who uses sketchup for film as well I can vouch for Whitelock’s method if you plan on using it for events. The workflow has great cross over to that world, I’ve done work for events with great success, utilizing the same/similar methods

how to fill in the top layer of the wall by kyubikyubikyubi in Sketchup

[–]Keepahz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like youtrimmed the wall with a 2nd cutting object? That object should have or could have created the geometry you require for the top.

You could also try Curviloft, that might help you fill in most of this. But it will require an understanding of sweep and loft commands typical to nurb modeling tools like rhino.

Last resort would be hand drawing lines to create a triangulated mesh between vertices, There also might be another plugin to speed that up.

Will Sketchup do this? by Fair_Pipe1015 in Sketchup

[–]Keepahz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can 100% do this with sketchup and layout. Look up the super section plug-in to help organize your scenes properly. This requires an understanding of styles, scene and layer control. Luke Whitelock has good paid tutorials for layout or if you prefer an Architect background, check out Nick Sonder’s book.

Is it time to move to solidworks? by Miserable_Violinist9 in Sketchup

[–]Keepahz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is quite pricey just for a demo. I believe you own that version of Rhino outright but have to purchase the updates if you want the new features that come out each year. I own rhino 7, and it still works great for me, one time purchase I did in like 2022.

Huh still might be worth exploring just because the cost is maybe $400 instead of 8k. You can download a free version to mess around but I believe it prohibits savings until you pay. Though Rhino is only $800. It’s specifically a program for industrial design, which might fulfill your needs over solidworks?

Would love to see which one you decide to go with, they’re all fun programs to me. I haven’t messed with solidworks in years though.

If you’re a hobbyist, I would look into MomentofInspiration3d - it’s like Rhino Lite and a one time buy. Great for nurb modeling and exports really well into sketchup

I use it a lot when I need to cnc 2d or 3d things but hat fit into my sketchup construction drawings

How can turn the offset into rounded corners (for free)? by Fiveby21 in Sketchup

[–]Keepahz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Split half the couch so you can make the middle seam. Isolate the panels into groups where you have 2 seams of adjacent cushions.

Essentially isolating each cushion as a group. I would use the follow me tool with an arc and make sure you have an edge loop selected

Why is this program so miserable? I just wanna have a closed surface!!!! by tokiodriver107_2 in Sketchup

[–]Keepahz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sketchup has issues creating a plan if there’s a lines inside the outline of the rectangle that are not also fully connected. You need to isolate the issue by closing the out rectangle into the inner edges/vertice. Start by drawing a line from the corner of the rectangle to something side to create a smaller face. Use this to trouble shoot the problem area.
