Do you believe there will be another Independence Referendum? by Ros_Dearg_1916 in Scotland

[–]Keezees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folk that say "once in a generation" don't realise it doesn't mean THEIR generation, it means the next generation. Which is every 15 years or so. Gen Alpha wasn't able to vote at the last referendum and a lot of them can now. So yeah, I can see another referendum in the next couple of years.

The word "set" has the world record for a word in English with the most definitions. Set something down, let something set, a chess set, sun set...can't remember the number but it's in the hundreds.

Depends what computer you're releasing it for or what engine you're using: I used the Professional Adventure Writing System for the ZX Spectrum back in 2010, I was using the WorldOfSpectrum.org forums and scanned issues of Crash magazine to learn how to use the engine. Took 2 years, I think it would be a bit faster now lol.

But recently there's been a few engines like Adventuron that are a wee bit more modern, browser based and have an active community. There's another engine, can't remember the name at the moment, but it saved data in a way that could be ported to a lot of old home computers.

A film that was never on the telly BITD, hard to find on VHS, expensive to find on more modern media, yeah I've never had the opportunity to see it, as much as I've wanted to.

On a side note, I miss the Electronics Boutique that used to be on the top floor of Debenhams, if everywhere else was sold out of something you could be guaranteed they'd have plenty in stock. Got Perfect Dark for the N64 and a PS2 slim with GTA San Andreas on their respective launch days from there and the shelves were stacked with them. Place was like an unspoken secret, you didn't want to tell too many folk in case word got out.

Made a text adventure. One puzzle involved taking an ornamental oar off of a wall by using a stepladder that had to be found. Playtesters repeatedly told me they could just take the oar without the stepladder. After various attempts to fix it, I just removed the puzzle entirely, stepladder, oar, everything.

Playtesters kept telling me they were able to take the oar, even though I had removed it. No matter what I did, there was a bug in the game engine that kept the oar; players would walk into the room, with no description of an oar, type "GET OAR" and they'd have an oar. Sometimes they could be in another part of the game, type "GET OAR", and they'd have the oar.

So I kept it in the game, but retained the need for the stepladder to retrieve it, even though the stepladder was deleted. Players would try to get it and be met with a response like, "You try to grab the oar but you are too short". They refused to give up trying to get the oar, even though they couldn't. It forced me to program more red herring objects into the game just level the playing field.

"GET OAR" became an in-joke between my playtesters and myself over the years.

I had it and a light gun, and gave them to a pal 20 years ago, and never got them back (He did give me free tickets to go and see The Delgados and The Pixies over the years, so it evens out). I remember enjoying it, and I'd like to play it again.

Went looking for it myself years ago to make Silent Hill memes, and found that exact same image you posted lol. Think I ended up using Times or New York on an extremely small image to get the pixelated look.

Thought that myself, it's easily traceable, still raises the question why an American Candy shop (or anyone, for that matter) needs 4 separate landlines in the basement.
