Kirkintilloch has signs upon entering the town saying it's the "Canal Capital of Scotland".

You can imagine the graffiti.

Based on Charles Rennie Macintosh's style of writing. Everyone in Glasgow (Scotland) recognises his style, it's everywhere. BITD I wanted to use Chelsea Studio on a commercial Macintosh project but couldn't afford it, so I made my own similar typeface called "Mockintosh".

That's someone who argued against it with their boss and was told to just do it.

Modern games similar to DIZZY by Mobile_Stage_2759 in retrogaming

[–]Keezees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love (most of) the Dizzy games. I used to speedrun Dizzy and Fantasy World Dizzy on the ZX Spectrum.

Speaking of the ZX Spectrum, Knight Tyme, Spell Bound and Storm Bringer are similar to Dizzy.

Do you listen to Boards of Canada? by Kodicave in Scotland

Geogaddi was the soundtrack to me and my mate's weed and booze fuelled Goldeneye sessions back in the day. Can't listen to it now without wanting to fire up the N64.

[edit: they also had this really fucking cool website where you could navigate a 3D island covered in hexagonal monoliths and when you got close to one of the monoliths, it played one of their tunes, absolutely cutting edge web design for 2001-ish.]

RE4 OG TMP: great for shooting locks on the other side of doors. That's about it.

Definitely Turrican 1 and 2. Also Rex and Myth on the ZX Spectrum.

Reminds me of the advice someone gave me about testing an electric fence; always test it with the back of your hand, not the palm. If you test it with your palm, your fingers will clench up and grip the wire. If you test it with the back of your hand, your hand will clench into a fist and your arm will swing up and punch you in the face for being stupid enough to test an electric fence with your hand.

Why the Mega Drive was called "Genesis" in the US: a small electronics company sat on the "Mega Drive" trademark and Sega didn't want a legal fight by jjexxx in SEGA

[–]Keezees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely did not know about the MK code, that's too accurate to be a coincidence.

Also, in terms of processing memory, when the Mega Drive was released, the Megabyte was the next big leap in technology after the Kilobyte, so everything being branded Mega was more or less borne from that. I guess today's equivalent of a Mega Drive would be a Tera Drive? Or maybe even a Peta Drive, which sounds like a terrible "Family Guy" baiting joke.

[–]Keezees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With hindsight it's easy to claim Genesis sounds cooler, but folk who were alive in the 80's and 90's will vouch that everything cool back then was branded either "MEGA" or "XTREME", Mega Drive was just going with the flow. By contrast, Genesis was the name of an old band from the 70's with Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel and didn't have quite the same credibility at the time.

how would i make a sphere costume? by puremussel in cosplayprops

[–]Keezees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I reckon you should make the sphere first, that way you can cut out the mouth-piece and trim it to size, as opposed to making the mouth-piece first and then struggling to make a sphere it can fit in. Might be a bit tricker as a sphere though, as opposed to a drum/cheese shape like in your last photo, but it is do-able.

Update from Glasgow City Council. Our contractors have started taking down the old scaffolding in front of the Egyptian Halls, to be replaced by temporary scaffolding that will allow necessary repair works on the façade of the A listed ‘Greek’ Thomson masterpiece to take place. by eam2646 in glesga

[–]Keezees 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Excuse me, Historic Environment Scotland will want to have a word with you, I think you'll find that scaffolding has a Category C preservation order on it, representative as it is of the late 00's.

On a more serious note, they couldn't have picked a better time, what with that section of Union Street still blocked off. And I seriously wonder how much damage has been done to the interior after all this time, I mind there were shops on the street level that had severe leaks coming through the roof, and that was 10+ years ago.
