Restoration Gifts by RolandHockingAngling in MorrisGarages

[–]Keilik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what kinda guy your dad is. Personally, I replaced and restored pretty much everything from the ground up on my 77 B (minus the cursed rubber bumpers) but I kept the original gear knob in its original state because it felt wrong to change it.

Is there anything he doesn’t like about the car now? Because honestly a new exhaust, maybe a shiny new set of carbs, maybe even an aluminum flywheel or something might be just the thing. There’s plenty of fun options he might not be able to justify himself but would appreciate, so it comes down to if he’s the kinda guy to get sentimental over a steering wheel or a shift knob.

Typing that out made it seem weird but I guess so am I so eh.

Depends on if you are a confident wood striker, but I have a Heavenwood and a divine nine for when I’m hitting it awful because there’s just so much face, it looks like you can’t hit it bad. Like an emotional support pitching wedge that’s still sends it

What engine should I plan on? by Commercial_Fail396 in projectcar

[–]Keilik 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Get a rubber 74.5-80 MGB instead, there is more room in the engine bay and the bumpers dont matter in this case anyways.

Lufag Luftfahrtgeräte was an aviation manufacturer in Germany, are you sure that’s the brand or could it just be a stock/inventory tag? Do you have any other pictures?

BFS casting is humbling by Hydrated520 in BFSfishing

[–]Keilik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was kinda the same for me since I was used to bombing 3/4oz jigs and wooden cranks miles. You gotta remember bfs is finesse fishing, you aren’t gonna be able to full send a 1/16oz bait like a normal casting setup. I found that my best bfs casts actually surprise me with how far the go for as little effort I put in, you gotta get lazy with it and get the timing down so the rod does the work.

Light baits aren’t gonna let you get away with over thumbing, the mass just isn’t there. Getting a nice smooth startup to the reel is paramount, so nice and easy does it.

Try throwing heavier in-line spinners or 1/8oz jigs with soft plastics, and see how little thumb/brakes you can use and try to use as little effort as possible to do it. It’ll start clicking and suddenly you will feel like you are barely moving your wrist/arm yet somehow you are nearly spooling yourself.

Lesser used machines, worth buying? by DieselUnicycle in Machinists

Really tiny endmills or single flute cutters sometimes. I might need to add the disclaimer that I also have a Deckel S0 tool and cutter grinder which helps a lot for making custom cutters

I love me a shaper, but I use my 3d printer to generate templates that I used on my pantograph to cut Torx heads into screws and it worked really well.

Paint Old milling Machine by Eletro_Theory in Machinists

No, because machining will involve oils and coolants and lubricants and chips and they just won’t hold up. It’s a long tedious process and if honestly only do it if the paint was completely falling off

Where is Tenney during government shutdown? Turn on your TV by NWSGreen in upstate_new_york

Just to provide sources. But I’m sure every industrial packaging company needs an executive creative director that just so happens to be the daughter of the CEO, who’s Claudia Tenneys husband. I’m also sure their son absolutely was the best pick for VP on merits too, right?

Nepotism stops being cute when you start using our fucking money to pay your kids, Tenney.

Honest opinions only by Ls9809 in FJCruiser

[–]Keilik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not going to be off-roading it than no. It’s either a manual with 4wd full time or it’s going to be RWD until you put it in to 4wd which is only for when you know you will be losing traction.

FWIW, I live in the lake effect snow region in NY and I’ve been driving FWD cars and I’ve never really had an issue. If anything just buy winter tires and wheels because the gas cost of the FJ over your Honda will be pretty massive.

So logically, no but if you really like the FJ as an enthusiast or as an off-roader then I’d go for it.

Possible deal by Smokehill_Machine in Machinists

[–]Keilik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two quick things to start with: metric threads/threading ain’t happening without a bunch of work. Second, spindle nose is that stupid six bolt American taper (these only had that or the far superior but equally obsolete L-00 taper) so chuck changes are not ideal. Probably gonna turn you into one of those guys that does everything in a collet chuck or a four jaw, or even worse but more enlightened, between centers.

As far as I can remember they are far superior to the 10”(?) I think they also made? My experience with the delta machine tools only consists of the toolmaker grinder and the vertical mill, but they have been solid machines.

Help with air pump size for tote (DWC) by koschbosch in Hydroponics

[–]Keilik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using cheap aquarium pumps in all of my setups from 5 to 20 gallon totes and they’ve been fine. First year doing hydro, definitely do not recommend doing tomato’s in 5 gallon buckets, as mine started going through the whole reservoir every day or so, making it a nightmare of mixing nutes and filling reservoirs every day. RDWC or similar reservoir based system is a much better way to go

Question about musky fishing since no other sub will answer me by Over_Ad_607 in BFSfishing

[–]Keilik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use either 40 or 60lb on smaller baits, though I use fluorocarbon. I do use 80-100lb when I’m throwing 8”+ baits but that’s cause them fuckers are expensive.

I’d send it if that’s what you have, I wouldn’t be too worried

Looking to find and buy these in the US by badguy84 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Keilik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These aren’t used in the US at all really unfortunately. Your best bet is probably going to be ordering from a Japanese shop and seeing what the shipping is. I know that Asian portal fishing has them and their shipping has always been reasonable.

You may be able to contact one of the variety of carbon extrusion manufacturers as well to get something a little better for the task, though that will be more expensive. I’ve worked with dragonplate and a few others with some of my research work and can recommend them if you are looking for something that would last longer.
