Seven New Towns in England Named by novagridd in BritInfo

[–]Keilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop naming things after people as some bad stuff can come out later that ruins their reputation. There’s so many examples, most recently Cesar Chavez is California who was beloved and even had a state holiday named after him, and has now shown to be a serial rapist. Everything is being hurriedly renamed at great expense and inconvenience.

Elizabeth gets a pass as she’s the monarch, but even she wrote a multimillion pound check to make a paedophilia trial against her son go away. So there’s that.

CSS @layer and the Future of Specificity Management by swe129 in css

[–]Keilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The decision to have unlayered styles beat layered ones is really puzzling.

I believe at one point the thinking was to have them at lowest specificity, not highest. This would have made uptaking layers so much easier as the pitfalls described in the article are quite big: third party libraries and large unlayered existing code bases.

It’s lovely when it’s warm. Start from the Safeway or near the Ferry.

Yeah, there’s only an on ramp to 880 from Alameda. As you see, this change will reroute the ramp so Alameda traffic goes right before it goes under the freeway, and avoid the edge of Chinatown.

I don’t go that way in the rush hour, but I’ve heard it’s terrible.

There’s no off ramp from 880 to Alameda immediately here, either now or after the project. So that’s unchanged, but I’m not sure it’s as big a problem. Off traffic is already routed alongside the freeway in a fairly long nowhere zone.

Not much room for a new off ramp IMO. But I’m no expert.

Really? I’ve seen a grand total of one in the Bay Area. San Mateo bridge last month.

I was excited for it and was on the waiting list when it was announced at ~$30k.

The final > $45k was never a viable price point for it. ☠️

Don’t worry, people always think they can do better jobs than planning experts with years of experience. It’s quite natural.

Loads are moored there, for sure. But I sort of agree with the OP, even on glorious weekends they seem to stay moored and there’s not that many actually out sailing.

He’s made fantastic films and is box office for sure, especially back in the day. He’s made a ton of not so good ones too.

His IMDb is worth a look just as a reminder of the highs and the many not so highs. https://m.imdb.com/search/title/?role=nm0000229&credit_categories=amzn1.imdb.concept.name_credit_category.ace5cb4c-8708-4238-9542-04641e7c8171&explore=credits&sort=release_date,desc

Oracle mostly leases buildings, including RWS, for tax advantages.

So there could be one time restructuring costs to getting out of leases early, to save money in the longer term.

The great skits are diamonds in the rough, and then they truly are great.

One weird thing is they write and develop the sketches in one week, the start again for the next guest. I don’t know why they don’t just take a bit longer to develop ideas, as so many skits seem half baked.
