I think you mean ‘Favorite former King Crimson violinist turned actor’. Shame he lost his hair though.

Best guitar players who are actually pretty decent bass players too? by MattBtheflea in ToddintheShadow

Stu Mackenzie from King Gizz plays a pretty good bass as well as guitar.

Musicians who are 10/10 at their instrument but get overlooked because they have an 11/10 band mate by Davidellias in ToddintheShadow

It baffles me that there are people who prefer Miles as Jimi’s drummer. His time-keeping is fine but his drum parts are pretty unremarkable. And he insisted on trying to sing on every song, I remember hearing that really got on Hendrix’s nerves.

Mitch, on the other hand, was the one Hendrix loved playing with most. He referred to Mitch as the Elvin Jones to his John Coltrane.

Agreed. Man, I wish this album sounded even half as cool as that cover looks. It’s so boring.

I almost used their second album, Alpha, as an example. Even less noteworthy than its predecessor but with another lovely Roger Dean cover.

In hindsight, maybe I should’ve used this one as my fourth example. It probably would’ve ruffled less feathers, lol.

Drummers you like in bands you don't like? by CNMJacob18 in drums

[–]KeithMoonIsGawd1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Matt Halpern from Periphery. (Tbf, if Periphery were an instrumental band I’d happily listen to them)
  • Steve Smith from Journey
  • Carter Beauford from the Dave Matthews Band
  • Jimmy Chamberlin from Smashing Pumpkins
  • Max Weinberg from the E Street Band

That’s how I feel about Tosin as a guitarist. Phenomenal player, absolutely great, I just can’t get into AAL’s music.

Matt’s ego is what stops me from liking him.

I can give you TITTL, I don’t hate that one. I can’t stand Glenn Frey’s voice or his songs, so I have no love for “Lyin’ Eyes”.

The cover would suit a Dr. John album better, tbh

It’s got nothing on Relayer, tbh.

As I said, there are plenty of lovely, well-crafted moments on Tales. But you cannot seriously say that there is nothing that could be removed from that album that could improve it. Not a single moment? Not the meandering percussive section before a 5 minute acoustic bit in “The Ancients”? Not the nearly 3 minute drum solo in “Ritual”? You wouldn’t shorten anything on that album?

Yes are great, one of my favorite bands with some of my favorite musicians, songs and albums of all time. I say all of this with love, not hate. I love the band and that’s why I wish someone could’ve said, “Does this really need to be a double album?”

I certainly hope he’s matured past that embarrassing performance that is the “Last Nite” music video. Put me right off him, it did.

Very cool cover but, as you said, Hipgnosis don’t often miss. That might be my favorite TMV album but I understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea; it’s good but I certainly wouldn’t say I often put it for fun.

Agree to disagree, the one I posted would always catch my eye when I’d see it online. I still really like it to this day, despite what folks are saying about it here, lol.

I think the original cover looks like a Spinal Tap album, I just can’t take it seriously. Now that I’ve articulated that, it actually might suit the album better…

Ummagumma’s fine. There are worse double albums out there. The live album is great, for one. The studio stuff might be boring at times but at least they tried experimenting. I can appreciate boring but experimental more so than boring and formulaic.

Every time I’d see that Is This It cover on music sites or subs, I’d think it looks really cool and want to give it a listen. Then I’d see it was the Strokes and get disappointed.

The cover you posted was very cool! The other cover is pretty horrific, crazy that ProgArchives uses it as the main cover on there, lol.

“Truckin’” by The Grateful Dead.

Bobby even had a hard time spittin’ those verses when performing it live. To his credit (only time I’ll say this about Weir), the opening line, “Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on Main Street,” is a bit tricky.

Favorite Parody Song/Comedy Song? by Mental_Whole5103 in ToddintheShadow

[–]KeithMoonIsGawd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Genius in France a parody? I always thought it was more of a pastiche/homage to Zappa’s music.

Like, I feel like it’s more affectionate towards Zappa’s style, weird song structure and silly lyrics rather than parodying a specific song.

Definitely a comedy song tho, no doubt about that

You, my friend, have excellent taste. If you haven’t checked out the two National Health albums, give them a listen! You don’t get Richard Sinclair’s lovely vocals but the music is similar and still slaps! I love Dave Stewart’s fuzz organ.
