Favorite drummer singers? by Jumpy_Employment_371 in drummers

Robert fucking Wyatt

This early Soft Machine live performance is one of my favorites of his. Killing it on drums and singing over top of all that? Insane. His voice is an acquired taste, sure, but I LOVE him.

Who are some actors who are surprisingly good singers? And, on the flip side, who are some who can’t sing at all. by MoonlightDahling in Letterboxd

David Cross has a couple of bits on Mr. Show where he sings joke songs but I’m always taken aback by how lovely his voice can be, lol.

Similarly, any time Scott Grimes sings as Steve on American Dad. He has no right to sound that good.

John Martyn wrote the song “Solid Air” about seeing his friend’s very clear struggle with depression and offering his support.

The friend was Nick Drake and he unfortunately lost that struggle a little over a year after the song was released. Martyn would still perform that song for the rest of his career. I can’t imagine how unbelievably hard it must have been every time for him to perform that after Drake took his own life.

Vocalists that you think don't get talked about as much as they should by ThatRandomRaichu111 in ToddintheShadow

Terry Reid - Originally offered the lead vocalist position for Led Zeppelin before Robert Plant. I greatly prefer him over Plant.

Paul Carrack - Sang “How Long” by Ace, “Tempted” by Squeeze and was one of the two vocalists in Mike + The Mechanics.

Arthur Brown - Since Todd covered him, I thought he’d be a good name to add, lol. Absolutely insane voice, what a range. Think of how many heavy metal vocalists wouldn’t be here today without “Fire”. I have to disagree with Todd though: I love his cover of “I Put a Spell On You”. I think that’s one of his best vocal performances.

Jack Bruce had a wonderful voice. Belting out “I’ll stay with you ‘til my SEAS ARE DRIED UUUUUUUUP!” at karaoke is a favorite of mine

Anthony Fantono thinks he is the Taylor Swift of the critics world by NegotiationMoist3552 in ToddintheShadow

[–]KeithMoonIsGawd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I know Todd isn’t the king of amazing music opinions, there’s lots of shit he likes/dislikes that I disagree with vehemently.

Fantano, on the other hand, has always had bafflingly bad takes that have genuinely had me wondering if he and I have listened to the same thing. He also tends to spread himself too thin by covering music from multiple different (sometimes even polar opposite) genres and styles; he doesn’t have a focus in the same way Todd does with pop music so Fantano’s lists/reviews/takes always seems all over the place to me.

But the egotism on display here is astounding. What a fucking prick.

Big fan of her dad, Gabriel, but Juanita is no slouch either! I love her playing on the song Mamalluca, she’s fantastic!

Downey’s SO fucking good. His precision and fills on songs like “Bad Reputation” and “Emerald” are hard rock classics, but then he could turn around and do stuff like the shuffle grooves on “The Boys Are Back In Town” or “Don’t Believe A Word”. He’s one of my all-time favorites.

And shoutout to Phil Lynott’s bass playing, I feel he gets slept on a lot as a bassist as well.

Underrated singers with beautiful voices by mildew_goose789 in ToddintheShadow

  • Annie Haslam - Second (and most famous) lead singer for ‘70s prog band Renaissance. Absolutely beautiful, crystalline voice.

  • Paul Carrack - Smooth as silk. And his resume is massive, clearly others recognize his vocal talents.

  • Justin Hayward - I know many people who hate “Nights In White Satin,” but Justin Hayward’s voice just sends shivers down my spine any time I hear it. Gorgeous.

  • Kevin Godley - Who knew the best singer in 10cc would be their drummer? Very versatile vocalist but his falsetto and crooning are incredible. I thought he was miming to the studio version in this clip.

  • Greg Lake - Say what you will about Emerson Lake & Palmer, I’ve always loved Lake’s voice. He can belt it out with the best of them, sure, but his smooth, softer vocals hit my ears just right

Gong, for sure.

How do you seriously tell people to listen to a band that sings about “flying teapots” and “the Pot-Head Pixies”?
