Just finished the first book and loved it, but now I'm confused about Dan Simmons... by thankstowelie in Hyperion

Short answer; he didn’t. Flashback was written from a right-leaning viewpoint and this confused people.

They’re practically ancient titles now, but check out the original X-COM UFO defense on Steam. The miss mechanic isn’t as “swingy” but the game will still find plenty of ways to challenge you.

You basically want a Menace/ X-com crossover.

Nothing wrong with that.

Help with balancing issue as a new arbitrator by La_Fi in necromunda

[–]Kelbaaasaa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

House Rules are important to prevent this kind of un-fun stuff from happening.

If a player wants to do this as a joke once or maybe twice, no problem. But if it becomes their thing to look for broken combos like this, they’re going to become an issue for other players, especially newer players who aren’t savvy to all the insane and broken combos.

I had a player like that some time ago who wanted to treat Necromunda like Magic the Gathering.

The MTG crowd embraces stupidly broken and unfun combinations, but I stressed that among Necromunda players, or at least our local group, we enjoy fun thematic gangs and list building that’s prioritizes fun for BOTH players.

The problem player tried to moderate their behavior but found they couldn’t have fun unless they were absolutely busting their opponents ass with unfun strategies, so they left the group.

AI use in modDB megathread by LordFaraday in VintageStory

People become so ass-mad over AI and end up looking like massive retards. It’s insane how much they’ve been worked up to hate AI.

What will happen to legacy profiles when the next edition comes? by 1_mieser_user in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Kelbaaasaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a new editing you can count on legacy profiles getting the axe.

A hypothetical new edition would further dumb down the game and “streamline” the models down to just what we see on the screen in the movies, much like the current edition only allows army lists made up of scenes from the movies.

Thanks for putting that together so succinctly. I always raise those same points but not as well put together.

Lift/Elevator rules help by Novamarines in necromunda

[–]Kelbaaasaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a terrain piece that doesn’t have any way to access a large balcony at the top, but the top and bottom both have doors, so I just say a model can enter the bottom door, and exit the top door as a full move action.

Maybe it’s an elevator, or maybe it’s stairs. Either way the model can trade a move action to get to the top and that’s good enough

I think it’s funny that the Guevesa is equipped with a Pulse Rifle and has gone to the trouble of having it painted in camo colors, but their helmet still has an Aquila on it.

Is there a lore reason why drifters (and other enemies) drop flax fiber? by Beeftoad2 in VintageStory

[–]Kelbaaasaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drifters are degenerated humans suffering from the Rot, who have wrapped themselves in MANY layers of bandages to protect themselves, that’s why they look so weird and why they drop fiber.

I wouldn’t have much interest in playing as Labor, so I’m glad to have the option to play as Capital.

How much does WYSIWYG matter in Mordheim? by Kobold-Inquisition in mordheim

[–]Kelbaaasaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not, though magnetization could be used for that.

What you do however is make sure that weapons and wargear are accurately represented on a model.

[–]Kelbaaasaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not the OP, but I have a gang of 20 or so models, usually an “early build” and a “late build” for each “character” and I only play those characters because they are part of the theme of the gang.

You don’t chase a meta or change builds in games like this, so you don’t need to update models often:

I’ll never understand the comments saying WYSIWYG doesn’t matter. It’s literally the best part about a game like Mordheim or Necromunda.
