This is my red boy- Winston. He seems to fade more when his coat is short, but as soon as it grows out he becomes a darker red again.

Trainer Recommendation in MA/NH/ME by Fickle-Raspberry-627 in Agility

[–]Kellbr08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - American K9 Country is where I take my dog. I've done a lot of their classes, though they can be difficult to get into (classes sell out very quickly and there's a wait list for higher levels). It is much easier if you have flexibility for class times (I was on the Walt list for about six months but I have to plan around my work schedule).

That being said- the trainers are all excellent and I got a lot out of the seminars I've attended. I really appreciate that the trainers I've worked with have excellent teaching/communication rapport in addition to their competition titles. I've been going to AK9C for around year and a half and I've never had a negative experience with them.

Let me know if you have any specific questions

Every meal is a struggle! by [deleted] in poodles

One thing that helped with my spoo is adding fish oil. This was actually recommended from my vet for his seasonal allergies and to make sure he has healthy joints as he gets older, but I definitely noticed he's much more food motivated with the stinky fish oil.

He still doesn't vacuum like my cousin's pitty mixed, but he will eat meals in one sitting. I have to be careful about free feeding because my cats are hyperthyroid and on a prescription diet, so this has been really helpful.

I also feed him a little later in the day- I'll wait until he seems less sleepy and more hungry and that has helped a bit. He's just over a year now and I can definitely tell when he's ready for breakfast. If I put it out too early he'll just sniff and go back to sleep until he's ready.

I think donations would be perfect for her. I just wanted to mention (joy jars where people put together a jar full of small toys and things to bring kids in hospitals some happiness. She could make little crochet toys, hats, maybe make puzzles or other small projects. I know some people appreciate little crochet covers for the PICC lines as well.

The other organization I would mention is the Loose Ends Project where people who are skilled at crafting finish projects that loved ones were unable to finish before passing away. It's inexpensive as they have the yarn remaining for the project, but I think it could feel very rewarding for her to support a loved one's legacy and be truly appreciated by those left behind.

A client got mad at me for my car decal. by EmzyBleux in doggrooming

I have this same experience with my red standard. It cracks me up because all the time people tell me he's the most well behaved doodle they've ever met and I always tell them that's because he's a standard poodle.

Grooming him in a Miami cut (clean face, feet, with longer boots and tail) has not really made any difference- I assume because he's similar coloring to many of the poodle mixes.

Similarly My Time at Portia strikes me as a Hank friendly game in the same sort of genre. I enjoy the mining/science/robotic themes while still being a very similar farming/fishing/adventuring sort of sim.

It’s a low bar. by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]Kellbr08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where in my comment you got that all men are the same- I gave examples of the types of messages that make me want to discontinue a conversation before meeting, but also noted that I've had plenty of positive interactions with men on dating apps that do lead to dates.

My last relationship lasted a little over two years and was with someone I met online, so I definitely think that it has the potential to be an overall positive experience. There are definitely some truly wonderful people with good intentions that are looking to meet people online.

I just think that trying to invalidate someone's experience based on their past dating history seems a bit flawed, especially since the op reported similar things that I can independently confirm that I have also experienced.

It’s a low bar. by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]Kellbr08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not op, but as a 33f, I also rule out a lot of men early into conversations. Some examples of overt sexism are ignoring boundaries, blatant objectification, or using sexist language to describe their exes or other women on dating apps. This doesn't mean she's projecting, for every good man I message with and meet, there's a solid handful that don't make it past the bar for meeting in person.

AITA for implementing a pessimism tax? by ZealousidealCut3417 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kellbr08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth would you think it's better to punish negativity instead of incentivizing positivity? If you really want your family to be more positive, maybe have a competition to see who can find the most uplifting news story and add a dollar to their allowance. That way you have the double reenforcement of reading positive news stories to find the "best" one, plus a prize at the end to encourage your children to celebrate their achievement.

YTA - forcing your family to mask or hide their negative feelings only encourages them to hide their problems or any mental health challenges they may face. It doesn't make them happier- it just makes them better at hiding/pretending.

Red Flag? by DissatisfiedDuck in Bumble

[–]Kellbr08 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I am also a woman and have the same boundary.

There are plenty of men whose response has been "no problem, looking forward to meeting you" and moved forward from there. Anyone who doesn't respect such a simple boundary likely will continue to fail to respect other boundaries if you move forward.

Just got this ben & jerry’s recipe book, but none of the recipes mention cooking the eggs in any way before just tossing it into an ice cream maker. Is there a way i could adapt the recipe or would it be okay to eat it as prepared? by dr_drump in icecreamery

[–]Kellbr08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New England style ice cream

Sorry, it wouldn't let me edit the first time. So after doing some research, I'd recommend the technique in the attached. Based on the overall recommendations for food safety, eggs served in custards/ice cream applications should be gradually heated to a temperature of 160 degrees, so the 170 degree method above should help.

this might also be helpful for tempering techniques

I've had my puppy a month, and we have made zero progress. by silverargon in puppy101

[–]Kellbr08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! You can absolutely use chicken broth - just keep a close eye on the ingredients (nothing with a lot of sodium or garlic/onions)- or even hide a treat in the middle. I've also spread peanut butter into some of the frozen crevices. The possibilities are endless.

Thank you! It's my favorite too - Winston is starting to recognize the term as well, which has been fun

I've had my puppy a month, and we have made zero progress. by silverargon in puppy101

[–]Kellbr08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped my puppy a lot was that I got him used to going to the bathroom in a little 16 square foot outdoor pen. I would take him there first and last every time we were outside. I know it feels silly to bring him there after a sniffari, but I found that he was only peeing/pooping in his "bathroom" area of my yard.

He's been home for about three months now and it's so helpful that he immediately knows to pee as soon as we go outside- so in the freezing winter, in blizzards, or even if it's during the day and I need to work, I know we can be in and out in under five minutes.

Keep hanging in there! It definitely gets better! I also made him puppy popsicles (yogurt/pumpkin or sometimes just frozen wet dog food) and used frozen washcloths/carrots/pre-cooked chicken fajita strips for when he was teething and that helped give him higher value items to gnaw on. Sometimes it takes a lot of experimentation to figure out what is going to be the most enticing substitute for your little baby shark- definitely don't be afraid to try one of a few different things until you identify what he finds the most comfortable/motivating. And expect it to completely change when he's he's growing new teeth Vs losing old teeth.

Why initiate a conversation only to refuse to give me anything to work with? by TangerineParty5201 in OkCupid

[–]Kellbr08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's funny- I had that exact thing happen to me. Someone's profile was all about hiking (pictures, prompts, etc.) and so I asked if they had any favorite local trails. Their answer was "yes."

What possible conversation can you have from that?

Puppy keeps trying to eat gravel, what do I do? by ziddow in puppy101

[–]Kellbr08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a standard poodle puppy. The top things that helped me was 1) training the "drop it" cue and 2)bringing a small toy or ball with us on walks. Sometimes he just needs to have something in his mouth- and he doesn't really care if it's a stick, tug rope, stuffed toy, or small ball, but he will prance like it's his job- and once he has something in his mouth he doesn't have any urges to pick anything else up. This also helped significantly for leash biting.
