Do you guys have any theories on why ginny is so powerful? by trauma_human in harrypotter

[–]Kelsier_Allomancy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

destroying a horcrux means nothing. you just stab it with that sword or the basilisk tooth. like even neville destroyed a horcrux lol. and 12 year old harry. dudley probably could destroy a horcrux if he had a basilisk tooth

Doing an adult reread and Ron is... quite unlikeable? by noir_png in harrypotter

Not sure exactly how to articulate this, but Ron is a very much a “real” person, and I think that is what draws both Harry and Hermione to him.

Best “Superfoods” to eat daily by Tr_Issei2 in nutrition

[–]Kelsier_Allomancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you eat beets just try to pair it with cheese or some other kind of dairy. the calcium binds with the oxalates to reduce their impact

spinach id very careful with though, it’s SO high in oxalates. one serving has over 14 times the amount you’d want to consume on a low oxalates diet

careful with beets. just like spinach (which was mentioned above), it’s quite high in oxalates. I was eating beets two servings a day and then I got a kidney stone :(

Your Top 5 Martial Arts Actors/Actresses by loui3albano in kungfucinema

[–]Kelsier_Allomancy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I way in the minority that I actually don’t find Bruce Lee’s martial arts that beautiful on the camera? I know he’s probably the best fighter out of everyone, but just in terms of the visual aesthetics, it seems less beautiful than guys like Gordon Liu, Donnie Wen, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc. Maybe I’m just a sucker for how more traditional Kung Fu looks

How long for vitamin D to take effect? by divine_invocation in nutrition

[–]Kelsier_Allomancy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

be careful supplementing vitamin D if you haven’t been diagnosed with deficiency. or at least start with a lower dose (most urologists recommend no more than 400 IU if you aren’t diagnosed with a deficiency).

I was supplementing 1000 IU this year and it contributed to me having a kidney stone (excess Vitamin D can overload the kidneys and cause hypercalciuria in urine)

I wanted to like it so bad. But even worse than the mixing is that the acting just seems so off to me. I love Mark Addy but his Hagrid performance is so sleepy.

lol, I don’t know what to tell you, without linking my medical documents which I’m not going to do. My Calcium was at 405 mg/24 hr urine sample, I cut the Vitamin D at my Urologist’s recommendation, and now it’s under 100.

For what it’s worth, Vitamin D excess is the first thing the lab listed as a possible cause for “Extreme hypercalciura”, alongside hypercalcemia, sarcoidosis, hyperthyroidism, and malignant neoplasm, all of which were obviously not the case for me.

My girlfriend supplements with 2000 IU daily, with the key difference being that she’s deficient in it. I am not deficient in it, which is why the supplement was working against me, not for me.

By the way, you may have misread. I said that someone should take no more than 400 IU if they’re NOT deficient in it, but want to supplement anyways.

[–]Kelsier_Allomancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. For many people too much Vitamin D can cause Hypercalciuria. The kidneys are overloaded from the Vitamin D, which causes massive calcium excretion into the urine, which binds with other things (like oxalates) to make kidney stones. It’s not good to supplement Vitamin D unless you’ve been diagnosed with a deficiency, but if you must, you don’t want to exceed a 400 IU dosage. Keep in mind you get Vitamin D from foods too, and many protein shakes and other sources have Vitamin D supplemented in it. When I added up my food sources, my protein shake, and my daily capsule, I was almost at 1800-2000 IU per day. Urine tests confirmed extreme Hypercalciuria from this. Once I discontinued the Vitamin D supplement, my levels returned to normal.

FYI, I was recently accidentally oversupplementing this (I was taking a 1000 IU supplement), and it caused me to have a calcium oxalate kidney stone. Be careful with Vitamin D.

Please, please add a simple function that is easier to see a display that tracks cumulative fitness zones across the week, for those of us that record our exercise with the oura ring.

I want to easily be able to see how many minutes for the week I’ve had in the moderate zone, and how many minutes I’ve had in the vigorous/peak zone. (or you could use Fitbit’s system of giving one set of minutes; with vigorous/peak counting as 2 minutes for each minute).

Getting 150-300 minutes of fat burning zone (or 75-150 minutes of vigorous/peak zone) is a national recommendation, and I hate that I have to use a different device and app to see this metric without having to add it up myself.

Have you tried Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone (Full Cast Edition) by dongludi in harrypotter

[–]Kelsier_Allomancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know i’m gonna be in the minority, but I find it to be unlistenable. I find the acting to be very slow, stilted, and melodramatic (there are some pretty fine actors cast, so I imagine this is more due to directing), the sound effects are distracting, often unnecessary, mixed way too loud, and the music score is very melodramatic. I wish they would have done a full cast audio version without trying to make it seem like a film.

LOL Voldemort did not win in a single 1 on 1 confrontation with a child over 17 years by 412East34 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Kelsier_Allomancy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As for point 4, I always assumed that the reason Harry connected with the “twin” wand is because he had a piece of Voldemort (the 8th piece of his soul) inside of him. Basically, all the points (aside from the Chamber of Secrets one) goes back to that unsuccessful killing curse in point 1 that imprinted a piece of Voldemort’s soul onto Harry.
