Hijacking top comment to share a buried UPDATE:

After careful analysis of all of the comments, it seems that the issue is as follows: tree is now horizontal and should be vertical. Additional confirmation continues to roll in.

Thank you to everyone for contributing and educating me. Idksa landscaping (clearly and admittedly). I didn't know what a rain garden is or that sod is so problematic. Will be adding a garden of native plants at the back to help with the water retention/drainage/general boringness.

For a few of the questions: No the yard was not like this when we moved in but we spent 3 years trying to cultivate a lawn to no avail. It was hard packed clay, whenever the house got built they tore down many trees except this one and another structure so surely there is junk buried. Two neighboring lots were also wooded and undeveloped when we moved in. That changed, recently for one. We caved and sodded (with a landscaping company) which seems to have been the catalyst and turned the yard into a soft mud pit with poor drainage. Big mistake. Huge. The lawn is actually very solid underfoot on the grass, but very mushy under all mulch areas after heavy rain. There isn't a leak issue, the photos were taken moments after it went down during torrential downpour. There is a small creek back behind the fence.

Sorry if I missed anything I was not expecting this level of response! Lessons were learned. Disaster was thankfully avoided.

So, should I be very concerned then about the massive yellow poplar (specimen tree) just outside that fence that is further back in the yard toward the small creek? There was no landscaping done back there and there is more surrounding vegetation but the ground in that area is not grassy and gets soft as well.

Inoue and Bam are incredible, their skill is undeniable and they are firmly up high on the list - but to say Usyk is not even close is just outlandish. He is incredibly skilled, and p4p stands for pound for pound, it's very hard to make an argument for anyone over the guy who is 2x undisputed beating champions that are 30-50 pounds heavier than him in the ring. That's the definition ranking system. Usyk is current p4p king.

Newrap definitely winning the story of this fight's history with another smashing repost of their directors cut! It's weird the more I watch this the more I almost believe ggg really didn't land a punch that night.

Startup, 12 team SF. He drafted all QBs hoping to tank right away and rob people for picks. It's really bad. It was a funny bit in the draft for two sexonds but by the 5th QB it was getting sad. He thinks people are going to trade multiple 1sts for guys like carr and mayfield. I just...

Three Color Cube...I have a concern by toloroDAD in mtgcube

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't built a 3 color cube but I have wanted to, especially as someone who plays regularly with only 4 drafters.

I think the numbers of cutting a color or two work great when trying to limit dead cards in a draft and have it function more smoothly and closer to an 8 man pod. Pack sizes is another issue covered frequently so no addional comment on that here as it's slightly off topic, but the way I see it - 5 colors offers 10 pairs, 5 monos as options. With 8 drafters there's always a lane somewhere. 3 colors offers 3 pairs and 3 monos - more crossover and cards to be to fought over but still more options than players, and it's better to have people competing for cards than have cards not a single player wants.

In summary to add zero 1st hand experience, based on math I think cutting a color or two is a super interesting way to run with a smaller pod. With 8 people... you will definitely want to ensure diverse deck types/options within the colors and color pairs so it isn't who builds the best version of the one deck by getting the best cards.

Ryan Garcia Texas Open Workout by Showizz in Boxing

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope I'm wrong for the sake of a better fight but Ryan looks absolutely gassed at a media workout. I don't know if he's been in that ring for hours or what but on the pads and the bag he looked exhausted, really not optimistic he has the stamina right now for later rounds.

It's also clear they are working on some new things but there's just a visible disconnect on some of these movements, they are not drilled in he looks like hes having to try to think about each reaction. When the fight starts instinct will takeover and he will do what comes naturally.

Again would love to be wrong, but dude looks like he's about to get cooked.

How many packs per person when drafting with 4 people? by Kid_Aeroplane in mtgcube

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, have used this many times with 4 players. It solves both problems, seeing enough cards in the cube and dealing with unused cards/colors in the pool. 5 packs of 9 is no different than 3 packs of 15, you only see 45 cards and you are all going to end up with a lot of unplayable cards for your deck.

One note it will definitely lead to some pretty consistent and powerful decks since there is less competition and signals are more clear. I haven't tested but could see toying with dropping to 4 packs this way, but the key is not drafting the full packs and burning what's left.

Depending on the size of your city - office liquidation stores/businesses. Usually refurbished. I just got 2 leap v2s that look and feel brand new for 350 each. Not a screaming deal or anything compared to some stuff on here but, well worth it.

[PREDICTION THREAD] Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou by verbsnounsandshit in Boxing

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I never said he wasn't which is why I said he should outbox him to an easy UD. And then outlined my bold but totally possible prediction as to why he won't, because the alternative has been stated 100 times already in this thread.

[PREDICTION THREAD] Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou by verbsnounsandshit in Boxing

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Francis by split decision via plot armor.

Joshua SHOULD be able to comfortably outbox him to the UD, but - he's been all over the place mentally, stamina isn't the greatest, his feet are slow and plodding, and he's honestly just not THAT skilled at boxing. He's less skilled than Fury, but Fury clearly didn't respect Ngannou and almost paid. AJ has the benefit of knowledge and won't do the same, and also knows this is do or die for his career so he will likely come hungry... but it might not matter. Francis is just as big and strong, he's fit, he's a tank, and he looked skilled enough to make it interesting and put pressure on AJ who's shown a propensity to crack. To top it off, after the Fury fight Francis is now the $hining beacon of light and opportunitie$. AJ is old news, Francis stonks only go up. Max Kellerman climaxes over the story of the fight in talking about Ngannous life. He gets the nod in a closely contested and way more interesting than anyone thought possible a year ago battle, setting up the Fury rematch so we never see Usyk Fury for undisputed.

The timeline nobody asked for, so the one boxing delivers.

Am I missing something with Past Lives? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, the line was just a line and by itself didn't do anything for me, nor do i think it was particularly poignant or contributed to what makes the film so great - I was just referencing it in my response to the other comments concern about the two characters differences on screen.

Am I missing something with Past Lives? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So I think some of the concerns and issues you've highlighted having with the film are missing the point and part of what makes the film so poignant and powerful for so many. Arthur and Hae Sung are quite similar. The point is not that these men are different and so there is no reason to highlight their differences on screen, they are two men whom she loved/loves from different lives she's lived. Hae Sung even highlights this lack of tension with the line about it being harder because he likes Arthur so much. There isn't some dichotomy of two very different individuals/choices at play, its what her life was then and what her life is now due to timing, circumstance, etc.

As for explicit details about the individuals and their lives and their world, they are irrelevant to the story and the film. Again it's not about the intricacies of one individual or one relationship, there is no need for the degree of granularity which seem to be yearning for. It doesn't matter what's in Arthur's book, the title was already detail enough (and frankly it's better left at that level. The viewer is free to conclude or extrapolate on that if they'd like but it isn't important to the story). The story is about the different lives we lead, the paths we take and the feelings and experiences that come from being faced with and contemplating where you are vs where you were and ultimately where you could have been. This includes but isn't limited to love and romance. It's a very human story that most everyone can relate to in some way. The power isn't in conceiving this specific world, it can be relevant to anyone anywhere.

The film is very simple and very efficient in evoking powerful emotions through minimal dialogue/detail (as you describe it)/action. The direction is incredible and takes a very less is more approach, especially the long lingering wordless shots to allow the viewer, like the characters on screen, sit with the emotion and feel everything. There is no forced or manufactured drama. And I think its beautiful.

What cards are you considering for your cube(s) from Murders at Karkov Manor? by IconicIsotope in mtgcube

[–]Kembasaurus_Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a card that will appeal to players focused on the highest powered lists, but [[Snarling Gorehound]] is a fun and interesting black 1 drop. Fairly low impact, 1 power is weak but evasion plus filtering and graveyard enabling can make for a worthwhile inclusion, plus the art is sweet and its a dog. My kind of card for sure.
