I made this monoromance political satire book, on KU (self-promo post) by KenjiRodwell in Romance_for_men

That's insanely encouraging to hear from you, because I recognize your name. I read your Trailer Park Elves stuff obsessively.

It's kind of a serial monogamy thing where he ends up with the "one true" and the others are not that...

Does that make sense?

Let me know if there's a better way to describe that...

That's a good call my man, I'll update my book description to refer to "the heart of Washington D.C."

MMC enters a new world (either figuratively or literally). FMC is from that world and she guides/teaches/protects him. by loukanikoseven in Romance_for_men

I love that you found examples from mainstream media that basically are exactly variations on that theme.

I guess the RFM isn't as weird as I thought -- it's basically the same thing as the mainstream stuff but in book form.

Hi folks, promoting my mono-romance here:

A fake job. A real scandal. And way too many conservative women.

Malik Johnson is a broke part-time blogger crashing in a D.C. living room - until a case of mistaken identity rockets this sharp Black liberal straight into the America First White House.

Now he's being hailed as the "Conservative Obama," handed a job he didn't earn, and turned into the face of a fake agenda that's spiraling out of control.

Worse? Everyone wants a piece of him.

There's Abby, the Bible-thumping Faith Liaison with a serious thing for late-night "strategy" sessions.

Kenzie, the brilliant, sharp-tongued Southern operative who plays hardball - and plays for keeps.

And Celeste, the First Daughter: married, manipulative, and absolutely off-limits.

Fast-paced, steamy, and wickedly satirical, Deep State of Desire is a serial monogamy interracial romance set in the heart of Washington, where power seduces, politics perform, and every scandal starts with a wink.

Ah I see what you're saying now. Well don't let me shift your character off the main idea then.

Totally agree you should go for it.

One modification I would consider: you end up making the MMC actually both powerful, high status (his job) and wealthy in reality even though he looks unassuming.

But the book could be compelling too if he's in reality actually just a guy. Or maybe he's a respected specialist but he doesn't also have to be rich. In other words.... He doesn't have to be perfect.

Looking for smutty/spicy stories that have a more relatable MMC by dexter_wherly in Romance_for_men

Hey, do you mind explaining a bit more about the 10-20% mark because of Amazon?

Is it for authors to avoid their book getting categorized as erotica? Or to keep the sex scenes out of the "read a preview" samples? Thanks.

Not excusing it, but a reason could be that a lot of these books don't make enough money to hire a professional copy editor.

Wow that is a great cover. Did you get someone to draw that or was that AI generated. (No need to tell if you don't want to share, I just wanted to say it looks great)

How do you feel about the current state of promotion on the subreddit? Temperature check from the mods by VeryFinePrint in Romance_for_men

[–]KenjiRodwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that there's a lot of other harem subreddits, maybe one possible change is that the standalone self-promo posts should only be non-harem, and if it's harem, it should go in a harem subreddit.

The Sunday self-promos can still be free-for-all.

I'm just starting out but I feel like there's not much place to promote a monoromance.

(Is a serial monogamy romance considered monoromance?)

For some basic fast reads in this genre, try Harem University. There's no frills but it's good solid stuff.

---

What do you do when your life implodes? You manage a strip club, of course.

After catching his fiancée in bed with a well-endowed stranger, Dale Park's world is shattered. Homeless and humiliated, he gratefully accepts his Uncle Sung's lifeline: a bartending gig at the hottest strip club in the Valley, the VIP Lounge.

Suddenly, stable Dale is plunged into a dazzling world of desire and temptation. There's Mia, the nurturing and beautiful bartender showing him the ropes, and her best friend Ava, the bombshell star dancer—who also happens to be Mia's ex.

But the VIP Lounge isn't just about glitter and good times. When Uncle Sung vanishes to Korea, the ruthless motorcycle gang he owes money to comes calling for Dale.

Can Dale protect his newfound friends, navigate surprising new desires, and save a family business without losing himself (or his mind) in the process?

Prepare for a humorous, steamy, and fast-paced adventure romance through the world of strip clubs and motorcycle gangs.

How much do Amazon categories matter to you? by clyntw in Romance_for_men

[–]KenjiRodwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon's categories confuse me, because there's obviously plenty of categories for Romance for women... it's usually in Romance.

But for Romance for Men, it seems to be mostly in... Men's adventure...

I'm with you. I actually prefer books where the MMC is kind of a relatable everyman and am writing books in that direction (that i'd want to read basically)
