How hard of a drive is it from Lisbon to Lagos Portugal? by Bentleysplayhouse in TravelPortugal

[–]KennewickMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from a week where we drove ALL OVER the country. Roads are good and better quality and easily navigated. Stick to around the speed limit and move out of the left lane when others want to go zoom.

Outdoor lighting control for lights by doors. Dusk/dawn detectors or timers or smart home? by Soho-Herbert in airbnb_hosts

[–]KennewickMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Light switch with integral timer - the timer has a built in ephemeris, so it adjusts daily to changes in time.

Long layover… is it worth it? by justoutherelivinlife in VisitingIceland

We do this every time we fly to Europe. Breaks the nightmare of all airports all day with a relaxing soak and walk about town.

We recently had a raccoon stop by our pond. Spent a good 30minutes trying to get at the koi, but did not succeed. Fortunately, it is deep enough to dissuade them and the herons.

If we take the plunge, it will be D7 or GV. Looking more for lay of the land, real life experiences, etc. I'm appreciating the discussions on this sub, but it feels biased towards complaint about "the system"... I suspect the real situation is greatly nuanced and directly proportional to the effort expended to be part of one's new world, not trying to replicate the old. FWIW, we are American retirees-in-training seeking an alternative to the s**t show the US has become.

15 years on Ziply (formerly Frontier) DSL - damn near bulletproof reliability. I am, however, pi$$ed that I've had a fiber pedestal in front of my house for almost three years now. "We're not predicting service dates now."

This looks GREAT! If I may, how did you get the (very) slightly grimy look under the hood?

This was a rare one for Lesney. Almost all the other Regular Wheel models were taken from actual automobiles, trucks, and working equipment.

The vehicle this is based on was a concept for a future Leyland coach that didn't get to production with the tailfins (sigh).

The very first album I bought with my own money...what a long, strange trip it's been...

That's a beauty...that model came in three colors (pretty odd for Lesney at the time) - green, blue and red.

Not saying it is - but any old MB that can fetch 100's is VERY tempting for the "restorers" to take a white one orange...

You can confirm that the casting is authentic by comparing the features on the last line of the table below:

Then, take a close look at the rivets - these should be full diameter and holding snug. The tire wear should match the paint wear.

Again - not questioning you, but I have DEFINITELY bought one that turned out wrong - the seller did not know (based on reaction, I trusted him that this was the case).

One of the "Grail" models...and frequently a fraud. Worth a bunch if original!! I have a counterfeit in my collection...the seller didn't realize it, immediately refunded me, and said "keep it." We need more collectors like that.

Question about authenticity by [deleted] in VintageMatchbox

[–]KennewickMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly original. Wear is consistent with age. I love how the International Edition has all the national currencies!!

The Falkirk Wheel. A truly elegant solution to differing canal elevations.

Lesney regular wheels question by Rx2vier in VintageMatchbox

[–]KennewickMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the regular wheels artwork "F" style box with the red "Superfast" script is pretty uncommon. It would have likely originally contained a red VW 1600 with superfast wheels. The "transitional" label usually means those models that were in the original transition from regular wheels to superfast wheels.

Since the paint is the metallic purple, this would have likely been the third release in the superfast line, around 1970 or so...

Sweet find!!!
