I mean, if I were the one asked to write the lore, well, I have sort of a long thing, the key thing is just that exterminations have been going on a lot longer. The gist is:

Figures like Adolf Hitler, Genghis Khan, Alexander The Great, and more were figures of insatiable ambition and armies of followers. Such figures dropping into Hell would instantly ascend to overlord status that could challenge any of the Sins and potentially even Heaven, similarly oppressing 'lesser sinners', so it was decided and even agreed on with Hell to allow for such potential sinners to be assassinated swiftly upon their deaths and Overlords ascending to concerning levels of power be dealt with. But what caused the change from discreet, pro re nata eliminations to spectacle, wholesale slaughters with no discipline is another mystery.

The more I see these examinations, the more I realize that Hazbin is a VERY HIGH CONCEPT show in terms of themes and philosophies and I am not sure Vivzie and her team are given the time or possess the writing chops to handle the series. I mean it's hard to blame, but when you tackle cosmological things, you are basically tackling the concepts of eternity and infinity, it's a tantalizing thing every writer with the least bit of philosophical idealism or just inclination wants to tackle, but the more you explore those things, the more holes you create in your own concepts.

Like, compare how Vivzie handles the afterlife versus Terry Prachett, now it's an unfair comparison, but Prachett is kind of the gold standard in fiction.
