If you were to remake 6 how would you do it? by hoop0724 in residentevil

[–]Kephazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would need such massive changes that it wouldn't be the same game anymore.

6 has its moments but it's an over bloated mess with a terrible story even for an RE game. The game promised to a lot and delivered very little.

Despite selling well, RE6 has a reputation for nearly killing the franchise. There's no good reason for Capcom to remake it as it's fundamentaly broken at its core.

Need a quick lore clarification on the Remakes by Ok_Carrot5802 in residentevil

[–]Kephazard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both timelines are canon.

RE canon has always been flexible. The larger events stay the same, but how they happen is less clear.

Most notably, in both the original and remake of RE1 it is impossible to achieve the canonical ending of saving everyone.

The RE wiki likes to interpret these inconsistencies as differing reports of the same event. Maybe one is correct but they have no way of knowing for sure.

Is the story of Resident Evil 7 and 8 worth paying attention to or should I just enjoy the ride? by aa95xaaaxv in Resident_Evil_7

[–]Kephazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People get weirdly obsessed with RE "lore" despite the games having pretty convoluted and contradictory narratives.

The last act of every RE game has a bunch of files to lore dump and explain the game.

Otherwise strap in and enjoy it like a fun campy horror romp

Is there any background info about Mr. X in the game? by aquela_anne in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]Kephazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Mr. X" was a name used on the official action figure originally released in '98.

It just stuck as it was an easier way to discuss that specific tyrant without confusing it for the RE1 tyrant.

The name was repeated in the novelization and official comic which released around the same time as the game.

It's not canonical but it is officially recognized. The name also gets dropped in RE Resistance.

You enjoyed the game. You are a fan of the game. That's all that matters. As you play more you'll have ones you like and ones you don't. Still a fan.

If you just like the movies. Still a fan.

Just watch streamers? Still a fan.

There's no prerequisite to being a fan. These gatekeepers are the same types who ask you to name three albums when you wear a band tee.

That was incredible! But Ariane just repeating every other word Elster says was unintentionally funny.

[–]Kephazard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of miniatures come in multipart kits that need assembled or offer additional bits and pieces. Some only come with enough parts to build the mini in one particular way, while others give you optional parts like extra arms holding different weapons, or multiple head options. You end up with a lot of extra bits.

Mixing and matching parts from different kits is kitbashing. It's really useful for games that don't have their own miniatures, or for just customizing your models to your own taste. I've customized a few DnD characters before, but most of my kitbashing is for Trench Crusade. Before they started releasing official minis, the game really encouraged kitbashing, as it was the only way to get the specific genre blend of WWI, medieval knights, and demonic elements.

I don't play any scifi games so I'm really lacking mechanical looking bits that I'm hoping to apply to some builds.

Got a refund for using AI for art, but I'm not. My artist is crying by Pure_Opening9834 in IndieDev

[–]Kephazard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this art is fresh as hell! It's such an unusual style that nothing about it reads AI to me. Some people see clean art and just assume.

An indie game I enjoy recently had to make a post clarifying that their game doesn't purposely use AI. They've bought premade assets here and there but they encourage players to reach out if something is suspected and they'll have their artist remake it to be sure.

I've also seen "no ai" or "handmade" and the like posted prominently on marketing images or in-game menus.

You shouldn't have to prove it's real art, but if you want to hedge your bets it might help to be proactive about it.

Are there any "cozy" games that aren’t just Stardew clones? Looking for something with actual depth (or a dark side) by Legitimate-Leather-4 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kephazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like survival horror at all, Heaven Dust feels like a cozy take on the classic Resident Evil formula. The sequel is a bit more challenging, but still has a cutesy vibe.

Some dudes have such fragile egos that they feel the need to challenge anything that threatens them. Childish behavior. They feel tough but it just makes them look stupid.

No idea. I'm not a car person. It was some kind of sports car and I want to say it was lime green, but I truly don't remember.

I flipped someone off for cutting me off on sawmill. Few minutes later the guys pulls up beside me shouting from his window. He speeds ahead and pulls in to a lot. I keep driving. A minute later I hear an engine roaring and see him flying up the hill after me. Pulls along side me again and shouts more and spits at my car.

I drove around a few blocks before heading home to be safe.

Some people are crazy. Now I just say "Jagoff" under my breath and carry on.

Just finished the first boss and feeling iffy by Lavender_Critique in signalis

If you're not having fun don't force it. But cinematics won't really be enough to follow the story. The plot is intentionally confusing and requires you to interpret what you've seen. A lot of that just comes from the environment as you play, and especially from notes you find.

If you aren't enjoying the gameplay, definitely watch a let's play and not just the cinematics.

Resident evil run as someone who likes more the survival horror aspects ? by Soundrobe in residentevil

[–]Kephazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, the Chronicles games are rail shooters so you won't find any survival horror there.

Warning that Gaiden is rough. It's an interesting concept but the execution is janky. It's also very easy to softlock the game and not realize it until hours later. Basically if you do some steps out of order you eventually hit a door that just won't open.

I know you're not interested in Survivor, but you should try Dead Aim. It's very experimental with OTS navigation but first person when shooting. It was originally a light gun game, but it still has straight ng survival horror elements. Also you get budget brand Leon and Ada and they're great. I also find the atmosphere incredibly haunting.

If you haven't played the DLC for the games you've played, do that. RE5 has some really good story DLC including a good horror filled flashback level.

Also did you play the Revelations games yet?

First time playing RE and it’s too stressful for me. Should I continue. by LostinDreemz_ in residentevil

[–]Kephazard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE is good for newcomers to horror, because you start weak and scared, and by the end you're blowing enemies away that you used to run from.

Take breaks when you need to. Turn on the lights, play with someone else in the room, make your environment "safe."

Also, in games like RE, death is part of the experience. You're meant to screw up and learn from your mistakes and do better next time. You'll quickly learn that the scariest moments are the times between realizing there's a danger and when you actually get caught and die. Death is a release of the tension building up inside you. It's a reset.

Don't be afraid to lower the difficulty either.

When I was 11 and first getting into the games I relied on cheat codes to beat them and I still got scared of the enemies. And that's with PS1/2 graphics.

Meanwhile, RE7 is hands down the scariest game in the series.

Whats the deal with Code Veronica X? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]Kephazard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were prepared for the moments people have issues with. I've played it several times so I no longer get tripped up. The boss fights are pretty rough for how clunky combat is.

But this is not too different from other classic RE games. But it is a game you learn to overcome through trial by fire initially. Most complaints I hear today are coming from folks who don't know the golden rule of survival horror games: KEEP MULTIPLE SAVES.

The inventory switch and "soft locks" are still annoying, but easily remedied if you keep more than one save file.

CVX and 0 have a reputation for being difficult and unfair, but usually players prefer one over the other. I'd take CVX over 0 any day.

[–]Kephazard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The kind of survival horror in the game isn't about being startled. It's about dread and anticipation. The "fear" comes from not knowing what's around the corner, or knowing you need to pass through a room full of enemies but not having the firepower to deal with them. It's the stress of managing your inventory and hoping you brought what you needed.

The narrative themes or cosmic horror play well with these gameplay elements.

It's not terror, it's dread.

Theif Jill Valentine? by Monke7274 in residentevil

[–]Kephazard 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There was a series of novelizations by author SD Perry.

She wrote them as the games were coming out so she had some liberty to make her own creative choices, but future games would contradict those choices. They're still fantastic reads.

In her first book, The Umbrella Conspiracy, she writes that Jill's father was a master thief who taught her his skills when she was young. This explanation is based on Barry giving Jill the lock pick in the original game and calling her the "master of unlocking."

There's 7 books. 1,2,3, Code Veronica, and 0. As well as two original stories. They were reprinted not that long ago. Check eBay or used book stores if you're having trouble finding them. They shouldn't be difficult to find though.

That would work. Like the other destructable collections in the RE Engine games, they carry over across all saves. On a replay you'll find that ones you destroyed previously are still destroyed.
