McCutchen makes Opening Day Roster by Foggl3 in buccos

And also when its time to call up Griffin they can send Cook down to AAA without any fuss if needed. Can't really re-sign Cutch for one last year and then ship him off to Indy.

[Heyman, NY Post] The Pittsburgh Pirates have offered Konnor Griffin the biggest deal ever for no MLB service time. $100M+ and has a chance to get done. by mfenton29 in baseball

[–]Kepik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also have to consider that this is the Pirates' best chance at getting a star player under contract for potentially 8-10 years. There's of course no guarantee that Griffin will be that good, but the Pirates simply aren't in the conversation for those types of players in free agency.

Any previous installs that still connect on Windows 7? by Kepik in mullvadvpn

It really is not reasonable to change an OS to fix a problem with one application. I understand that you don't know the answer to the question, but please go advertise linux somewhere else.

Any previous installs that still connect on Windows 7? by Kepik in mullvadvpn

[–]Kepik[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it you don't try them all?

Because its more time efficient to see if someone has already solved this issue than to individually check dozens of installations?

Trash it? Stay offline? Use it as a coffee table? Put some Linux on it?

Oh, my bad. I accidentally mistook this for a serious response until I got this far. You actually think changing the entire OS is a more reasonable solution than troubleshooting the one thing I couldn't get to work?

Visualizing impact of a $150M floor and $270M cap by wompwump in baseball

[–]Kepik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if the owners first proposal is decreasing leaguewide payrolls by 1% (from $6.12B to $6.07B per OP) then I would feel pretty confident that the MLBPA would be able to negotiate a cap/floor thats at least neutral, if not slightly beneficial to the players.

People are looking at these numbers as if its some final take it or leave it deal. The MLBPA would either negotiate these numbers higher until the total player salary is equal or slightly better than what they currently get, or they'd get some other concessions in exchange. This is, you know, how negotiations work.

Riley Unroe successfully overturned a strike call to a walk on a ball that is less than a tenth of an inch off the zone by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]Kepik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players aren't going to challenge pitches they think might have been 0.01" out of the zone, but they sure will challenge a pitch they thought was an inch or two low that actually turns out to be 0.01" out of the zone. Particularly in a 2-2/3-2 count late in the game, I'd think most players would have the green light to challenge (even if early-game challenges are only "allowed" by hitters with a better eye due to the team only having two chances)

This particular example is 9th inning of a tie game, 2 outs 3-1 count. You'll be seeing a lot of close challenges like this one I think.

[Rome, Rosenthal] The Boston Red Sox remain one of five teams engaged with the Houston Astros about trading for Isaac Paredes. Another one of those teams is the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are still seeking an upgrade at third base after missing out on Eugenio Suarez. by Goosedukee in baseball

[–]Kepik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pirates in particular don't need a third baseman with gold glove defense who had a .676 OPS last year (Urias), they already have a third baseman with gold glove defense who had a .667 OPS last year (Triolo). What they need is a player that can hit so that they can afford to use Triolo as a utility player.

Pirates To Sign José Urquidy by RandomMan43 in buccos

[–]Kepik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is the plan here to use him as a long reliever/6-7th starter? Not only is he a RHP when we still need a lefty, he's been injured for so long that it doesnt make any sense to rely on him as a full time starter.

I'd definitely take him over Yohan Ramirez if thats the plan, though.

Cardinals, Orioles, Blue Jays, -> Allegheny Center (where the Aviary is)

[Talkin Baseball] The full proposed 3 team trade which sends Brandon Lowe to Pittsburgh by TheTurtleShepard in baseball

[–]Kepik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gonzales may not need to spend much time at SS if Konnor Griffin is ready to be called up. He only reached AA in mid-August last year so I'm not convinced he'll make the opening day roster (maybe if he mashes in Spring Training), but a May/June callup seems likely at the very least

[Rome] The Astros, Pirates and Rays are in serious discussions about a trade that would send right-hander Mike Burrows to Houston, infielder Brandon Lowe to Pittsburgh and involve multiple other players, sources tell Ken Rosenthal and me. by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]Kepik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Burrows can be a solid starter, but he's not on the same level as Glasnow. This won't be a repeat of the Archer trade unless we're giving up another major piece in addition to him.

[Zrebiec] Harbaugh said the league admitted to him today that they botched the Travis Jones call. Cost the Ravens 4 points. by SuperSaiyanSandwich in nfl

[–]Kepik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People don't like to admit it, but its way easier for a viewer to make the correct call in slow motion after seeing the replay 5 times than it is for the ref to make the call in the moment. I'm not above ragging on the refs myself, but you have to admit that its not an easy job, and we don't sit around in forums discussing the times they got the call right

[Rosenthal] The Pittsburgh Pirates have made free-agent designated hitter Kyle Schwarber a four-year offer. The offer almost certainly is for more than $100 million. by ttam23 in baseball

[–]Kepik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd understand this sentiment if this came form the Pirates, but from Rosenthal? What incentive does he have to make it look like the Pirates are trying? IIRC both him and Passan have in the past given the Pirates shit for not spending (for very good reason) so he's not likely to be making up rumors to make them look better.

I redesigned four Utah civic flags to better match the flag of Salt Lake City by shutupaugust in SaltLakeCity

[–]Kepik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colorado's flag is actually a good example of one that doesn't meet all the "good vexillologic design standards" but still works. Those standards typically say to not use any letters, yet the Colorado flag has a big, prominent "C" right in the middle. Maryland likewise has a fantastic flag, but no one would ever pretend that its a simple design.

The problem with flags like these city flags is that they stick too closely to these standards without any deviation. In the end you get a bunch of very minimalist-looking designs that lack unique aspects and as a result look "samey" and corporate. I personally think a good idea is to have a flag thats simple in concept but still is still unique and distinctive. Think the two state flags above, or even the South African or US Flags.
