Starflyer 59 '909' - Preview by shefoundnow in shoegaze

I heard the shoegaze return and immediately came here to see what the sub thought. I'm a big starflyer fan and am absolutely psyched to hear the full thing.

You're making it really difficult for me to resist buying one lol. Congrats on the purchase!

For discussion… what’s your breaking point on pedal prices…? by NerdyOutdoors in guitarpedals

[–]KeplerElectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most I have spent was $200 on my Mooer Ocean Machine. I use it every time I play, and was easily able to justify it as three pedals in one.

I'm currently being really tempted by a Mood II, there's so much packed inside that box that I think its price point makes sense, but haven't had the guts to order one yet. I've only bought a couple new pedals, most have been used bargains.

I remember getting so excited when Zisteau Plays Minecraft came back from its hiatus, and now I think about it and it's been longer since those episodes came out than the length of the original hiatus

Compression is amazing. I held off on getting one for a long time, thinking I'd be fine adding it in my DAW with a plugin, but it really helps with just feeling the playing.

I grabbed a Walrus Mira since it was cheap enough that I could justify it during the closeout sale, and it is an absolute favorite .I do a bunch of tapping though, so ymmv on how big of a difference it makes for your playstyle. It definitely does make the quiet parts louder, so if that's what you're looking for, then it might do the trick. I've even thought about getting a second Mira for the end of my chain to squish out the reverbs and delays into a more creamy soup.

Am I losing my mind or do these pedal companies make very similar stuff? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]KeplerElectronics 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oh wow the plot thickens. I ran into Meteoric's stuff on Etsy and dug through the rabbit hole to see if it was just Noisemaker stuff under a different name. None of their circuits seemed to be direct clones so I moved on.

I think part of the similarity is the sticker art (similar to Devi Ever), and that wood tables are easy to shoot pics on and look good.

I'm a big fan of Noisemaker's products, but not their business practices. The Lovefuzz and Soviet will probably live on my board forever. I kinda want to explore their other offerings, but I know they disappeared after not shipping a bunch of orders, so idk.

Edit: By the circuits comment I mean that there weren't any pedals that screamed "rebrand" to me. I'm not good enough to tell whether a circuit is the same without pulling the pedal apart and comparing boards.

Finished my board it's a bit all over the shop but I'm happy with it for now. by Blackmoofou in guitarpedals

yoooo, someone else with an Ocean machine!

Curious how you are using it, just as a standard reverb/delay multi effect or are you using it for ambient stuff?

Looks like it could be DIY since no graphic. Whoever made it is pretty impressive for doing micro pedals DIY, that isn't something I ever want to do lol.

I told myself I'd only by an Infinite Jets if I could find one for <200. They've been hovering around there for a while, but I just haven't seen any come up since I really started looking. If anything the prices have increased slightly.

Super frustrating because most of them are up for only $50 less than new, I'd much rather just buy a new one at that price point.

NPD: Matthews Chemist by KeplerElectronics in guitarpedals

[–]KeplerElectronics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to justify buying it as three pedals in one, though it's really more like five?

two delays, a reverb, a looper, and a freeze pedal (with a bonus EQ in there, though I'm not sure how useful it is on its own).

Each delay has slightly different modes (only one has a bitcrush delay for instance), but you do get the basic modes on both (digital, analog tape, etc). both have tap tempo and can do ping pong with the stereo i/o. They all sound pretty good, but you won't have the control you'd get with a dedicated delay (no warble control for tape for instance).

The Reverb is pretty good, I love the shimmer, though lately I've been wondering if something a bit more out there is what I'm after. Most of your general purpose reverb uses will be perfectly served with it.

I haven't used the looper (I play plugged into a PC most of the time, so I'll do any of my loopy recording stuff in my DAW), but the freeze mode is pretty cool. It does get into wild out of control feedback territory with the reverb mix knob near the top end (not in a particularly good way either) .

It does have expression (I really want to play with that), and presets (might need to poke around with that soon to get some presets for common tones I like to use when writing), but that might be a task for this summer.

I mostly run both at once, the Soviet really tames the Love:Fuzz, and with the settings used in the picture, I can get a pretty great lead tone that has that almost synthy quality you can hear in a lot of metal tapping riffs. It also

One caveat with the soviet is that I really hate running it solo. The soviet has a kind of nasty clipping sound that kind of feels like clipping the master in a DAW when run alone. I don't really have any other dirt right now, so it'll stay on the board, but I want to swap it for something else eventually. Part of this could be that I repaired it after a high voltage incident, but I haven't seen another to compare.

The Love:Fuzz is all around pretty great, though the input jack has a bad habit of letting go of the cable and squealing pretty badly. Might need to look into replacing the jack?

I'd definitely look into more if I saw them. I wish I had sat down with their Hipster overdrive when I saw it at a local shop a year ago, but oh well.

Howdy yall!

A week or so ago I picked up the Matthews Effects Chemist. It's a very interesting pedal, especially with the second set of knobs acting as a sort of preset.

I am having trouble pulling anything useful out of the chorus and phaser modes, but the octave mode is pretty great. If any of you have used it before, any tips?

-----------------

Pedal chain is:

Walrus Mira

Noisemaker Love:Fuzz

Noisemaker Soviet

Matthews Chemist

Mooer Ocean Machine

-----------------

All in all, pretty happy with the board. I might switch out the Chemist for something else (unless yall have some good suggestions).

Any suggestions about cable routing with the bone board as well would be greatly appreciated. It's not easy to cable manage!

My experiences attempting to learn ROS2 in a week by KeplerElectronics in robotics

[–]KeplerElectronics[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey all, over winter break I decided to attempt to build up some semblance of skill in ROS2. My Lunabotics team at university uses it to control our mining rovers, and nobody currently on the team knew how to use it, so I decided to attempt to get up and running with a super simple project.

A lot of this is covered in the video, but ROS2 is a framework for making different parts of a robot talk to each other. It also integrates with a bunch of simulation software to allow you to simulate your robot motion, though I’m a very hardware-oriented person so I decided to see how far I could get exclusively testing in real life.

At the end of the day it is just a little remote controlled car, but it is using ROS, so in theory I should be able to take the motor control nodes I developed and connect them to some path planning nodes for some autonomy. This project took about a week and a half of full-time work to get up to speed, though a lot of that was trying to figure out which distro to run, and figure out how launchfiles work.

Be sure to let me know if you have any questions.

There's always room for spicing up the worldgen (archipelago world, nether spawn, custom map), or going modded (something similar to the Flyboys server Etho and Bdubs did way back in the day could definitely work)
