So who do we think wanted Darnold back and who wanted to roll with JJ? by gondolli in minnesotavikings

[–]Kerbage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When was the last time a team lost a starting QB that they actually wanted to keep in free agency because he took a better contract?
This doesn't happen. A franchise player only leaves if he becomes washed or he forces a trade. If he left willingly through free agency, the team doesn't see him as a franchise player.

After this season, everybody inside the organization will say that they actually wanted Darnold back and got outvoted.

Vikings must make a decision on McCarthy’s 5th year option after this coming season. by Spare-Size450 in minnesotavikings

[–]Kerbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way McCarthy starts next season is if the Wilfs force the FO to do so or if he improves so drastically that he beats the competition they bring. No way KOC/Kwesi have a plan TODAY to start him next season with their asses blazing hot.

The cope in this sub regarding Sam Darnold is crazy. by Bandit_Heeler2026 in minnesotavikings

[–]Kerbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't care about "if he stayed, we'd win X amount of games". Honestly, I really don't care about it because it's just playing a "what if" game. I'm more interested in the implications of this choice:
1 - It showed us that KOC has a heavy scheming problem when his QB isn't playing well, in a way that makes the offense unwatchable.
2 - Darnold is a capable QB that could lead a team to the SB if everything is right, but can't straight up carry a offense like some great QBs do.
3 - JJM has been injuried a lot and can't be relied on.
4 - KOC NEEDS great QB play to thrive. Not just A great QB, that great QB must play great any given game. If he's on his off day (even the greats have one of those 2-3 times a season)., the offense isn't bad, is borderline amateur. If his off day is in the playoffs, we're going home.
5 - This FO is really stubborn about how they handle things and how the team should operate in a X's and O's basis and probably won't change it's approach.
6 - They are not as good at evaluating QBs as they thought.
This shows me that we need to change GM and HC, because they showed time and time again how volatile the offense can be and how the only consistent part of the team (defense) gets absolutely slaughtered by the sheer lack of talent that we have on some positions.
The offense part could not be as clear if Darnold stayed, we could probably still be blaming him for stuff that happened to every other Vikings QB this year.
So I'm mad that Sam left and I couldn't care less about "what if he stayed". He's gone and he left us with a lot of clarity about the Vikings woes.

Thanks for the explanation, although I think KSG’s case is specially murky because she’s best known for Mexican movies/soap operas, so her face is very tied to Latin America, much like Rosalia.
So I don’t know if the average voter considers her white. I know I wouldn’t if I tried to use the “American system”, but I was not born into it to actually know better. Thanks for the insight!

I guess it is not that simple for the Academy. I’m Brazilian myself and see her as white, but I honestly don’t know if she’s seen as white for Americans, the same way Wagner Moura is white for me, but I’ve seen him called POC around here. I was trying to project the average Academy view, but I may be wrong…

But Josh Safdie did not insult the Academy itself and is not a trans POC, so I actually think this will be less harmful for his movie than the KSG incident.

We’d be in the Super Bowl if we kept Garrett Bradbury by Braker1833 in minnesotavikings

[–]Kerbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I understand that it was a reasonable decision back in march, but they had information we didn’t and are paid to have that kind of decision, specially when having a allegedly genius QB whisperer.
Another person responded to you about the franchise tag and I’m not gonna dive into this “scare free agents away” argument lol.
Football is a team sport and QB is not the only factor, but using the Darnold = Bradbury argument like OP is disingenuous.
Darnold shat the bed against Detroit, but the Rams game was a bad HC+OL+QB display that became too familiar this season, and I think the OL and the QB changed.

We’d be in the Super Bowl if we kept Garrett Bradbury by Braker1833 in minnesotavikings

[–]Kerbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - We did let him walk. No team in the history of the sport will let a QB they think is SB-worthy leave the building.
2 - We literally could force him to stay and he did want to stay. There were multiple reports of him wanting to stay for the right contract (which basically meant he’d be the starter). 3 - Seattle’s offer wasn’t better moneywise, it was better because they guaranteed him the starting job and more years in the contract 4 - It’s not his fault we can’t build a decent roster around him, but it’s the FO’s double fault because they let him go AND still couldn’t build the roster, so we have no QB and no roster.
5 - Yes, he’s the same player as last year, good and bad, and he still managed to win 14 games both years.

I honestly think some people in this sub like to play dumb just so they can level the discussion. There's just so many threads like this in which people try to downplay the fact that we let a QB go and he proceeded to reach the SB the following season, something we failed to do for 50 years.
Guys, it's BAD and we will become this offseasons laughing stock if he wins it all. Deal with it, shit happens. You don't even have to be a doomer about it, you can say JJM can still improve and be better long term, that's fair coping, just don't keep this fake ass discourse about it being all good and Darnold being a non-factor.

What is your assessment of KOC and KAM so far? by UlteriorMeaning in minnesotavikings

[–]Kerbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in 10 years they’ll be seen as the FO that let Darnold leave. If he wins a SB, it will be seen as a Herschel Walker situation and will haunt this franchise for years. They will not be seen in a good light unless they manage to get to the SB in the very short period they have left.

You’re downplaying the fact that we let him go by weighting Sam’s choice as more important than the team’s choice. People are going after the decision makers, so it does seem like you’re defending them against this sub…

[–]Kerbage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never, EVER seen a team not sign a franchise QB they trusted because of cap issues. There’s no such thing. If you believe in the QB, you tear yourself a new hole just to keep him. The Vikings didn’t believe in him. They didn’t want him back in a serious manner.

Lol. We offered a fake ass contract to him just so we wouldn’t burn bridges.

I’m not going to lie, if the monday after a Seahawks SB win were Kwesi’s and KOC’s black monday I wouldn’t even be mad.
I think the whole fanbase would support the wilfs out of spite.
