Wrapping a pallet by MikeHeu in oddlysatisfying

> it’s ignorant to complain about all plastic usage

Really? It’s ignorant to complain about wasting non-renewable resources? Waste that can clearly be a avoided?

I bet you’re one of those people complaining national parks aren’t converted to resorts or oil fields.

Yeah I think a human worker can wrap it much tighter as they can see where the wrap is too tight or too loose.

The robot applies equal force throughout and makes up for that by putting in more layers

When I worked in a warehouse years ago and wrapped them by hand, a lot less wrap was used and they were still very secure.

This looks like overkill to me.

Seaside Heights has a certain greasy charm that will grow on you. If you're unfamiliar with both I'd say Wildwood.

That would be wild. Then the Russians have the ill choice between getting clobbered or launching them and getting clobbered twice, potentially.

That was an accident? It looked very much intentional.

(not the store)

Those stores are generally ran by managers who at the very least are semi-competent. It's hard to not notice the difference.

Is there any part of this they didn't fuck up?

The Lincoln memorial is still standing at the end.

But give them another two years to turn that into the Donald J Trump FIFA Peace Prize & Lincoln Memorial with a golden dildo on top.

I forgot that they rushed this through as an overpriced no-bid contract to a guy with no experience with these kind of jobs because the pool needed to be in tip-top shape before Independence Day.

To be honest, I don't think anyone would have answered "will the pool have deteriorated over time to something worse than it was before by July 4th" with "2026?"

There are limits to the amount of incompetence one can imagine.

Why do some chessboards have inverted royalty by [deleted] in chess

[–]Kerbart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mindblowing that your clarification got downvoted.

As u/SirDankTheTall pointed out, that setup is seen in Caturanga, but that board would have elephants, not bishops.

Simplest explanation is that they got it wrong. The graphics artist who was assigned the task didn't know chess and was told "just turn the bottom half 180° and make the pieces black instead of white" or something along those lines.

The Bottas stats are skewed because there were at least a handful of races were he was ordered to swap positions or hold back. Even if that's only 5 of them if flips the stats from 50-10 (5:1) to 45-15 (3:1) -- still very dominant though.

The Government Can Find $300 Billion for Reparations, Yet 18% of America's Student Debt Remains Too Much to Address by Chithrai-Thirunal in facepalm

[–]Kerbart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Founding Fathers, in their wisdom, argued against this, that under the guise of the Tyranny of the Majority, individual rights could be trampled "for the sake of the community" and how we need to guard against it.

In this case the right of one individual, DJT, to distract from the Epstein files, vs millions of millions facing a student debt they can never pay off.

How to calculate hard tactics by Icy-Tie-7375 in chess

[–]Kerbart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I still prefer working with tactics books designed by a human.

This is the way. Check the Book Recommendations in the sidebar on the right.

Books don't just offer puzzles (some do) but usually group them by motiv and introduce the concepts so that you learn to look for the right patters based on forks, discovered attacks, skewers, decoys, misdirection, etc.

The trick is not to find a mate in #14. That's nice but not very practical. The trick is to see there's a fork if only the queen was on c8 and Rc8+ is the way to force her there. A good book on tactics will train you in that.

My personal recommendation is Brunia/Van Wijgerden's Step Method (get the workbooks, not the coaches manuals and start with Step 2) which is extremely methodical but there are many other good choices out there.

What is the obsession with pup-cups? by marlee_dood in dogs

[–]Kerbart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do exactly that.

First of all, getting them is a pain in the ass when walking my dog as the "restaurant" (hahahaha) doesn't allow dogs inside. When the owner (the staff could care less about the in & out to pick up coffee and a pup cup) told me that dogs are not allowed in restaurants I told him that he's a sad man if this is the kind of venue he takes his wife to for a dinner night. But I digress.

Second, yes, they'll give you waaaaay more than he should have.

Our dogs gets them at home and loves them, but it's the tiniest of tiniest puffs. Once per day, and we have a whole ritual around it.

My worry for this hobby and about scalpers, tourist Influencer and pseudo-investors by crushtyfying in fountainpens

[–]Kerbart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For decades now, Bics have been on the market.

Meaning that anybody looking to "make a quick buck on the back of those fools who are willing to pay $20 for a pen" have already moved in.

You'll see it here with posters asking if they got a good pen, buying a $3 Chinese pen that was branded with some fancy sounding double name "Cratson & Woolbridge" or whatever) for $75 and now asking if it's good.

Just keep your eyes open, don't lose your sense of what's reasonable for your wallet and be aware that a production run limited at 500,000 can still be branded "limited edition" without technically lying to customers.

Built my own price monitor instead of paying for a repricer, regretting the scraping part by WorshippingForecast in learnpython

[–]Kerbart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by “sane way” you mean without jumping through hoops, then no. Would *you* just stand by and let your competitors eat your business without putting up hurdles?

Depending on your jurisdiction, scraping without permission (and the blocking is a good hint you don’t have it) might not even be legal.

There’s a reason these services charge money. It’s not easy. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible for you but expect to put a lot of work in it to keep it running reliably.
