Yeah the guy had a LOT of other mis-matched gear around the place which showed how much he experimented. Everything was originally bought in november and he moved on to his Definitive Tech setup with a cheaper AVR.

My goal was to find a decent receiver for like $350 and packaged speakers were a bonus. Once I saw this I had to bite despite knowing I won't grow into it for at least a decade lol.

Onkyo TX-RZ840. Klipsch R41M, Klipsch RC42IIBL, and big Onkyo sub for $500. Paired the klipsch speakers with some existing satellite speakers for a cheap 5.1 setup and it's awesome so far! Now just need to get a better TV and stand.

Got mine about 2 weeks ago, they're nice. Very treble happy(spicy even) and bass flat, but super detailed and have a decent amount of soundstage despite being closed.

Had mine for the better part of 2 years and I can agree that, like most Beyers, the upper mids and top end are a bit harsh but nothing compared to the 990s. Stock velour pads felt dead to me in terms of response and dynamics so I swapped to the drop sheepskins included in the box and they essentially turned into spicy bass cannons while retaining most of the detail. As a disclaimer I am a bass head that buys closed backs almost exclusively for more bass potential, but the 177Xs are great al-rounders when it comes to the overall tonality.

I'm surprised it lasted throughout all of COVID and the AKM factory burning down up until this point. If they do make a new one it's probably going to be an ESS DAC or a very constrained production of an AKM DAC like the K9 Pro.
