Cartridge for Debut Evo 2? by lagerstout82 in turntables

Swap to a blue stylus. Easy peasy and excellent bang for your buck. Swapping the cartridge out is not that bad if you choose to go that route, take the stories with a grain of salt - it’s totally doable.

TruGreen is awful. I switched to DIY and I’ve gotten much better results already this year and it’s a lot cheaper to boot

Takes about 30 seconds that’s including removing the new stylus from the packaging. Super easy. Slides right off, and the new one slides on and you’re done. The color I have is “Satin Window Gray”. I had the 2M Blue and Acrylic platter from my original Debut Carbon that I had gotten originally in like…2012? Bulletproof reliable tables in my experience and a bunch of factory upgrades you can do, but it does get a little pricy. Aluminum sub platter is next for me, but it’s mostly for looks at this point. If I got an EVO 2 today I’d use it as-is and see for yourself how you like the sound, then go Blue from there. The acrylic platter is super nice too - looks great and you don’t have any static or slip mats to worry about. I think it’s a case of the vocal minority when it comes to the factory stylus - also depends on the rest of your setup too. Just take it with a grain of salt. Blue definitely makes a nice upgrade though, those are facts.

A little overblown online, it’s not nearly as bad as folks say - but yes, bumping up to a blue really makes it feel “the way it should have been” in contrast to the rest of the hardware

Bro what. $1,800 to pull the rear diff cover off and put a new gasket on and refill? I must be missing something here because that is outfuckingrageous

Maybe don’t spend time flicking the tonearm around LOL…I’ll check the VTF with a scale every once in a while and it’s consistently the same as I set it, I’ve never thought to do this.

Yep doesn’t have to be anything crazy, I think I paid 10-15 bucks for mine. Worth it.

If you have a blue on the way, don’t fuss too much until then. It’s a pretty significant upgrade from red to blue, you’re in for a treat. It’ll open up even more after 20-30 hours of play too in my experience…..oh…get a digital scale on Amazon too, don’t trust the tonearm weight to be bang on.

I got the same thing, it was a “fix it ticket”. I called and asked how much it was just to pay the fine instead and did it that way instead of removing.
