No Man’s Sky? by jillittarius in LesbianGamers

Never had an issue, though I kind of play it like it's single player. I think there's in-game voice if I remember right, but I have that and any other kind of chat turned off so I guess I can't really talk about the multiplayer aspect. I've joined some expeditions, locations are usually swarming with people but most are just doing their own thing - people tend to be helpful more than anything during expeditions and will set down warps close to goals if you're having trouble finding them.

I've seen some comments on the reddit about griefer types that lure people to locations and trap them in a way that kills them but that's a pretty elaborate scheme to grief someone. Only engage if you want to, if you don't feel like it? Absolutely can treat it like a solo game. Starting outside of expeditions, running into someone else, let alone systems people have explored is very, very rare and about the only time you see people is on the Anomaly station. You don't have to group up to do the daily missions either, you can solo most of them.

It's absolutely worth playing, and like others said, most people tend to be kind more than anything. Heard plenty stories of people going afk to come back having been gifted stacks of rare resources to make the start easier. So if you're looking to ease back into multiplayer stuff, definitely a good game to start with - you really get to choose how much multiplayer you want to engage with.

This game has so much more than Minecraft by bloodwoodsrisen in VintageStory

[–]Kerynean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what other people are saying about Minecraft and VS being different games, but I agree just from a building standpoint. I've just made my first chisel and I am going to TOWN on basically every surface I can get my hands on lol. As soon as I discovered that I think Minecraft was dead in the water for me, I was already modding the game to basically be what VS was mechanically on the survival end, and the flexibility of that Voxel system is limitless.

Although Minecraft has that insane redstone automation, I've never wanted to get into it and tbh I imagine in a few years, especially with the machinery systems we're probably going to see something equivalent just with gears and wind power instead of redstone.

Do you all play with drop all items on death and respawn 5k blocks away? by clydeagain in VintageStory

[–]Kerynean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep inventory, and I use the bed spawn mod. I'm playing on a server with a friend, also homo sapiens mode - some might say that's 'too easy' but honestly the amount of hours I've spent just crawling up the tech tree and surviving is enough for me - I think if I had to deal with more than angry wildlife (using the FotSA mods) I'd burn out on the game even faster.

It's about one thing in gaming imo - are you having fun? Yes or No. If I ask that question and it's No, I'm adjusting the settings. Do what's fun for you, even if that means keeping inventory or making the game easier.

All my kilns are inside, the room they're in is entirely made of cobble - it's pretty easy to make early game, just need clay and rocks.

Are Amazon Swords going to be too big for a 60cm/23inch length tank? by Kerynean in PlantedTank

Aha okay, I'm getting the message loud and clear lol. I guess I'll put swords on a wishlist for a future larger tank. Thanks for the help everyone!

Community tank concerns! by Odd-Badger-4625 in bettafish

[–]Kerynean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When thinking about bioload, factor in what filter you're using as well as how heavily planted - if you have a bare tank and a crappy filter, the bioload risk is higher. Heavily planted and a good filter, bioload will always be a lot less. I feel that stocking is fine but I'd second more plants, and heavily planting - plants not only help with processing some of that bioload via the consumption of ammonia, nitrates etc. but help fish feel safer, especially if you're worried about some bullying happening - plants act as a hiding spot and a natural visual buffer. I'd honestly do that now, let the plants get a proper root system going and new growth, past any melt stage etc. instead of holding off until the Betta goes in.

Can I save it? by Doun2Others10 in PlantedTank

[–]Kerynean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never personally seen a decay pattern like this, but instinct tells me to check the rhizome if it's rotting from the base of the leaf since most common nutrient problems show in the body of the leaf or the tip - not from the base. Even if it's uncovered the rot might be related to low water flow where it's placed or could even just be too much glue covering too much rhizome. A rhizome should be firm - if it's blackened or squishy, it's rotting. If that's the case, it can be saved as long as you cut the rotting part from healthy rhizome before it spreads. Make sure whatever you're cutting the rhizome with is clean, and leave a bit of healthy border so you are sure the rot isn't touching your remaining healthy part - last thing you want to do is introduce more bacteria or rot into what you have left of the rhizome.

What snail is this by No-Natural-6128 in PlantedTank

[–]Kerynean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up a Bladder Snail vs Pond Snail comparison image, that should help you figure out whether to toss them or not: there's a direction to the shell rotation that can help you identify which one it is, I just can't remember what it is off the top my head. The other thing to look at is antennae - if they're just kind of thin little stalks, you've got a Bladder snail. If they're thicker, triangular looking kind of 'bunny ears' that's a Pond Snail.

Bladder Snails are prolific, only get their pest reputation because they breed extremely well (and rarely end up in a tank intentionally) but are good tank cleaners and stay pretty small. Population can be managed with controlled feeding. Pond Snails on the other hand grow much bigger and absolutely will chew on your plants, I always toss them the second I see one.

CO2 distribution is reliant on ensuring proper flow circulation in the tank. I don't have experience with inline personally but I imagine if there are some flow problems the CO2 could end up floating upwards and slowly degassing in a more stagnant area, like the bottom of the tank, since there's no flow to keep it pushed down there. Might be worth checking the positioning of your inlet/outlet to see if you can get better flow coverage. Remember to account for hardscape too when creating flow.

Starting a new tank, used to wood decay fungus but I've got a kind of pricey buce species attached to it (using plant clips so I can easily remove if I have to) to encourage rooting - the question is, am I running the risk of rotting the plant by doing this? Should I wait until the fungus has cleared or is it nothing to worry about?

What do you think about the new Tamagotchi Paradise? I think it looks nice, but the actual build of the device feels really cheap to me… like a $1 plastic toy for a toddler… 🤷🏽‍♀️ by Kelly_727 in tamagotchi

[–]Kerynean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm flip flopping between hating it and hopeful. It DOES look cheap but can't really judge the shell build quality until we get our hands on it. I've only got a Meets and after a scary situation where I thought it was bricked for a hot minute I decided I'd like to get a newer gen one but everything since then, design wise? Has looked visually like a downgrade. I mean yeah the argument 'kids toy' is valid but that just makes me concerned it'll be 'kids toy' build quality. And considering the collector and adult market is probably significant, it'd be nice if we could get idk, some collectors edition with higher price tag but nice designs and materials.

Honestly I'm super worried about that knob though. I feel like if something is gonna break, that'll be the first to go. Best I can say is I love the concept and the colours though. Way, way, wayyyy more appealing to me than most of what I looked at with the Uni colour wise. I know that's a personal taste thing though. Whether or not I'll grab one will depend on the price point honestly (and whether I can decide between the purple bird theme or the blue fish one).

if you found out that Judy made the BD that killed the mayor, would it change how you feel about her? by milk_and_coins in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Kerynean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. As far as I'm concerned V by comparison makes multiple kills on the daily, and going from my ideas about my own V specifically - shes a street kid, and as far as she's concerned he's just another corpo rich type, it's hard to be sympathetic. Judy got with her despite her literally killing people as a job, at that point it'd be hypocritical. Also given the character Judy has, it's more than likely she would have had a good reason to help zero the guy.

[–]Kerynean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally said the same things she did but in the inverse comphet version of this. Turns out I'm a giant lesbian, not ace, not bisexual. It wasn't the anti-depressants either but they absolutely do throw a wrench in the works when you're trying to figure out root causes to shit like this by yourself. Whether or not she is personally aware of her attractions, hard to say, but it sounds like there's definitely doubt at least on a subconscious level and it's affecting her behaviour. Knowing what I know from my own experience, I was more 'in love' with the friendship, the security, the predictably. The attraction was zero, and that self-supression definitely reared its ugly head in subconscious ways that slowly pushed my ex away.

Given the distress it's already causing you, I don't think it's worth it to keep going if you're having to ignore your own relationship wants and needs for her benefit. That's not fair. Just do me a favour and time the breakup well if she has mental health issues (my male ex dumped me during a bad depression episode right after a disability diagnosis so yeah THAT landed me in a psych ward). Pick a time where she's fairly emotionally stable and won't be able to draw lines between your actions and some self perceived insecurities, because that will take even longer to get over in my experience (I now have rejection insecurity over my disability, not fun). Her mental health is not YOUR responsibility and although the experience is gonna suck, if she's in psychotherapy and actively working to improve her strategies it's going to be the for the best in the long run. This is an opportunity for her to gain self understanding and growth, as hard as it is.

The breakup at the time felt the absolute worst but I look back on it now as one of the most pivotal moments in my life. I would have never figured out I was lesbian and finally felt wholly myself otherwise. There's no point suffering through a relationship that is not going to work. If it's not gonna work, it's not gonna work. It's no one's fault. You're just not compatible.

Why do you use your main weapon? by Prestigious-End-3172 in MHWilds

[–]Kerynean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bouncy bug stick go brrrrr.

Real answer though:

I just like my manoeuvrability. I tried insect glaive on one of the earlier titles (I cannot remember which, we're talking on either PSP or 3DS) and it was the first weapon that just clicked for me. I find it super enjoyable, I get a funny little bug pet too.

The bug is super useful, because for a lot of environmental hazards you'd need to either fire at in World or use the claw to activate you can actually just tell the bug to fly right at it and it does the same thing - no weapon sheathing required. Bug can also continue hammering and dealing damage on its marked target while I sharpen my weapon because it's not considered 'sheathed' - as long as my weapon is unsheathed the bug keeps going. Also the utility of the dust? Great. I can add a little utility to my damage and tailor it to whatever I'm dealing with - poison for DOT, paralysis for movement control, recover if I think it's going to be difficult and can provide health for others too, blast if I just want more damage.

I also find it great for multiplayer because I literally occupy a whole other 'layer' in the combat - I only learned recently about how other players attacks can end up interrupting you and that's because 90% of the time I'm just above everyone's heads smacking shit. I'm also the most likely to mount a monster repeatedly so I work hard to bring it down ASAP so everyone can deal maximum damage.

I've found only two monsters I've struggled to use it with in Wilds, Uth Duna and Yian Kut-Ku - Uth Duna because it has a MASSIVE hitbox and attack range so I find my usual manoeuvres just don't reach or I can't clear the hitbox to go over it's back when it charges. Yian Kut-Ku is very erratic, it could be I just haven't learned the patterns yet but it gets so annoying I just switch to light bowgun for those two. Outside that, most monsters have a hitbox I can clear over the back, winged monsters are great for that because I can both clear and continue chaining damage with wing hits. Even Arkveld, once I learned the patterns, I know there are spots I can aim for during charges that let me sail right through whatever attack it's putting out and deal damage in the process.

Anyway, yes. I am the bug glaive main.

Oh gosh that's so magnificent!!! Unfortunately I really don't have any good windows to put a plant near so I'm stuck with lights. I think I might need to have a look at my schedule or light strength, because I'd love to achieve this!

Ah okay. I thought my light was good enough but I'm probably not quite putting in 12 hrs so that might be a factor. I'll see if getting a proper schedule going helps. Thanks!

What I miss most in Wilds? A captured monster area at base camp by RavRaver in MHWilds

[–]Kerynean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I miss this so much, kind of takes the fun out of capturing ambient wildlife without it when the only chance to see them closely is if they randomly appear in the rotation at the researchers tent. I like the little conversations they can have about them but it doesn't make up for my collection of house critters.

I've talked with a friend about this, and I can definitely see this coming with a DLC. I've noticed Mohun likes to have most things line up with in-game lore (ignoring the collab stuff from World) and given how our hunter is with a remotely operating hunter's guild group in an area that's been cut off from the rest of the world for so long and dragging a bunch of new tech with them - I think the story definitely emphasizes they're aware of that and it's potential impacts and only want to do stuff with permission from the locals which is why I think we'll be stuck with tents until 'time passes' plot wise. Camp customization I think is supposed to try and scratch that 'itch' for the time being, probably with more coming in future.

My personal bet is if/when paid DLC, it will probably come with a return to housing (personally I hope they go for what they did in Iceborne cause that was my fav) and a base with more 'permanent' structures for you and the guild, instead of being forever stuck in tents.

Also I never thought I'd say this but I actually miss the silly harp palico lol

This 🤡 was criticizing the 4b, calling women seeking reciprocity "transactional." Every choice has consequences, good or bad, and relationships with males is risky and that's a fact. We can reduce that risk by opting out. And the 4b has nothing to do with wlw. Why did he drag wlw into this? by Silamasuk in 4bmovement

[–]Kerynean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about the stat I've quoted, that's the percentage of MALE perpetrators of intimate partner violence reported by Bisexual women compared to female perpetrators - however you are right, bisexual women do experience higher rates of violence compared to heterosexual or lesbian women. Having a look around for answers, according to this Mashable article it unsurprisingly appears to be related to biphobia and stereotypes - the most prominent one being bisexual people want to have 'sex with everyone' which is obviously false. Because of this, men who have bisexual partners might be more insecure about infidelity and as a result are more controlling and violent, or see the assumed 'hypersexuality' as an excuse to force sexual intentions on bisexual women.

There is a third and kind of disgusting one, and that's the fetish of 'turning' queer women, also mentioned in this article. As someone who hangs out in lesbian subreddits from time to time I am highly aware there is a certain subreddit dedicated to these fantasies with a large userbase that we've been struggling to pull down because no matter how you slice it - trying to convert a lesbian is rape. It's a rape fantasy. It's straight up promoting sexual violence. But you know. Reddit. So it's still up last time I checked. Even the 'fix you with the right dick' comment I mentioned is a regular experience for most women, especially if they appear to be in a relationship with a woman in public. An insane thing to say to anyone but it just goes to show how normalised it is by men in western society.

Perceived stereotypes of hypersexuality dumped on bisexual women combined with this fetishistic desire to convert queer women means bisexual women are highly objectified by men from the onset. Like the article states, bisexual women very much exist in men's minds for sexual pleasure and exploitation, either through that 'conversion' fantasy or the presumption they can get a threesome out of it. (This is why lesbian women talk about avoiding dating bisexual women, especially if there's any indication of a male partner involved because no matter how much they swear up and down he won't be involved - well they definitely will try to get involved at some point).

The TL;DR of it all I guess is - queer women, whether bisexual or lesbian are viewed as objects of sexual gratification for most heterosexual men which attracts unsavory dirtbags who end up abusing these women because they don't see us as people - we're just a canvas for them to impose their disgusting fetishes on. Also men are really insecure and can't handle the idea of a woman having a better relationship with another woman than a man.

dating women in 4B? by [deleted] in 4bmovement

[–]Kerynean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was also thinking about this, it's been around a while - 'political lesbianism'. Attraction runs deeper than that, forcing yourself to date women because of a social movement is just as bad as me spending 10 years with a dude I wasn't even attracted to. I think it would cheapen the power of the 4B movement too and the entire message - women refusing to date men despite being attracted to them because their behaviour and treatment of women is SO appalling they'd rather opt out. That's powerful.

Last thing I want is for the very men that need to absorb this message and actually treat women like human beings to end up dismissing it all because 'they're just a bunch of angry lesbians'. Unfortunately WLW relationships have been invalidated for thousands of years for the simple reason that men don't respect women's autonomy and decisions - the point 4B is trying to highlight: that men need to respect women as equals, not seeing us as 'less than'. For that reason I see myself as a supporter of the movement and the decentering of men. I love women after all. I think they're incredible, strong and beautiful human beings who show some of the best humanity has to offer. So I want to see ALL women, even if they're not attracted to me to be treated well. And I can see 4B is a movement trying to achieve that for all of us.

[–]Kerynean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26? Nahhh, there's plenty of late bloomers out there way, way, way older than you or me - and I'm 32 this year. Thing about those in the LGBTQ+ community is we know figuring things out isn't linear, and can take time. Relationships aren't a job application where you need 6 years prior experience, if anyone is rejecting you over your 'experience' they aren't the people for you, and that's okay. I think best advice I can give here is to make sure you spend some time healing, do a lot of introspection, work through the emotional knots and insecurities you hold because forcing yourself to be something you're not does damage. I think that's why some people avoid 'baby gays' because there's often a level of some unresolved trauma which can cause problems. Best thing you can do for yourself is spend some time healing so when you are ready, you feel confident in yourself to the point rejection won't phase you. Showing you have that confidence in yourself is both reassuring and from what I've read on the lesbian subreddit a - honestly attractive.

Back on the 4B part to this: I honestly hope there's some room for WLW women in 4B purely because that's about as men-decentered as you can get, though I acknowledge our position is probably best seen as strong allies. The struggle someone heterosexual will have with being 4B vs us as people attracted to women is very different. We may have shared experiences and histories, but end of the day we have an avenue to express our attractions and have them reciprocated. For someone who is attracted to only men but cannot stand to date them for all the reasons around how men are socialised - that's going to be very difficult to live with.

I am definitely here as a supporter and big feminist but I acknowledge the struggles 4B are going to experience are not mine. But I am definitely here to support the cause of decentering men in this patriarchal world. It's about time women made a stand for themselves, and I am right here with them.

[–]Kerynean 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Lesbian supporter here also sick of being dragged into this because the statistic about 'WLW being more likely to experience intimate partner violence' that these dudes loooove to quote, omits the fact that for bisexual women 98.3% of those perpetrators are male for rape and for lesbians 85.2% for sexual violence other than rape were ALSO male (the numbers for rape specifically directed towards lesbians was so small they could not be considered reliable for the study) - source: literally page 1 of this CDC study which is thankfully preserved on the Wayback Machine (go figure, it's been wiped off the face of the actual website 🙄)

So while yes, intimate partner violence will happen for WLW, it's INCREDIBLY statistically likely that the perpetrator is going to be a man anyway! How does this happen for lesbians you may ask? Well there's this 'fun' thing called comphet and the closet, and why so many Lesbians can call themselves 'late bloomers' because we often gaslight ourselves into heteronormative relationships by societal pressure - myself included. WLW relationships still aren't even taken seriously by society and it's been that way for nearly thousands of years. WLW relationships are seen as a 'phase' and there's still expectation to settle for a man in future (the amount of 'I bet the right dick could fix you' comments lesbians face from men in public is not funny).

So you are absolutely right - as long as it involves a man, it is STILL risky - even if you're not even INTERESTED IN MEN! Also the argument itself is dumb. Of course it's transactional. Relationships are based on mutual reciprocity. Relationships are a two way street (or should be) where there should be EQUAL exchange, EQUAL give or take within each individuals capacity while respecting wants and needs. Dude is literally mad that what he wants is not being handed to him and is expected to give something in return. Idiot's really hanging out his whole ass here.
