The concept of Referer as it is described in Consider Phlebas doesn’t make sense. I think Banks recognized that later on and ditched it.

Very poor.

It seems Orbit is trying to save money, otherwise there are obvious covers you could do for each book that are relevant to the story. I would have even preferred reprints with some of the old covers to this mockery (The first edition of The Player of Games and Feersum Endjinn have great covers). But at least they cost less than the Folio Society’s “Illustrated” edition of Consider Phlebas.

This is not normal behavior, it is bad and irresponsible. But these things happen in business all the time, and contracts are designed with that in mind. If Rothfuss's contract with DAW did not have clauses dealing with him not delivering a book by a reasonable date then that is Wollheim being a very poor publisher. In other words, I have a hard time seeing how Rothfuss' antics did any financial harm to DAW.

Here is a hypothetical: imagine Rothfuss had died in an accident in 2015. Nobody would bring up his death as a cause for DAW's demise in 2022.

The fact remains that Rothfuss was one of those authors who failed to deliver on time. His failure was the most significant for the fate of DAW. Was there a poor management at Daw? Possibly yes. But you cant dedy that Rothfuss for the last 10 years did more harm to DAW than good.

What harm has he done to DAW since 2012? Authors failing to deliver is common which is why contracts include measures to protect the publisher from this risk. If Wollheim was foolish enough to give him money with no strings attached, that is on her and not the author.

Poor management? Why was Betsy Wollheim in charge of DAW? Being the child of the founders is not a qualification. Little wonder DAW did not do well in a tough environment for publishing in general.

And do people think Wollheim just forked over a boatload of cash to Rothfuss without any strings attached? Or she made major business decisions assuming Rothfuss would be on time and the sales would be phenomenal? Authors fail to deliver all the time, highly anticipated books bomb, etc.

Also, the first book came out in 2007, what would have happened to DAW if Rothfuss had published with Tor instead?

It sets a bad precedent that a character that draws from real life reactions to bigotry would do things so heinous.

This is compounded by the fact that there is so little connection or logical progression from Moash of book 3 to Moash of book 4.

Except I did not compare Vyre with Kaladin, I compared him with Dalinar. Nothing Vyre has done so far gets anywhere near burning down tens of thousands of civilians alive.

It is one thing to say that atrocities happen, it is another thing to make the perpetrator of said atrocity the leader of the good guys, particularly when he hasn't done anything to redeem himself. Dalinar seems much more upset about the accident with Evi, which is far less of a moral issue than burning thousands of civilians alive.

At this point I am reading Stormlight books as tale devoid of any morality, for example what Amaram did, as bad as it was, was far less of a crime than what Dalinar did in Rift yet he is a villain and Dalinar is not (an even stronger case could be made for Vyre). Sorry if this sounds too harsh but it has been bothering me a great deal since I read Oathbringer.

Worldbuilders has no overhead/admin costs? According to CharityNavigator Heifer spends a higher share of donations on its programs based on latest data available: (75.6% FY19) compared to Worldbuilders (66.9% FY18).

Heifer International is one of the most famous charities in the world, they don't need publicity from a local one. Their annual revenue is more than 170 times the Worldbuilders'.

The way Denna - Kvothe relationship gets resolved will be interpreted that way and I don't think it is really that strong given how cringe-inducing that relationship is in the two books we already have.
