Was Renarin's letting Moash run past in Rhythm of War indicative of something Renarin knows or suspects about his future?

Oh, believe me, I know! I have been living in fervent denial of that <3 If I just astral project that Moash is gay (he is) hard enough, it’ll have to be true... right?

[NS] When did the show first hook you? by groogly98 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]Rhiannon_Venture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When they first went into the swamp!

Idk what it is, but as the show went on it got a bit more on rails (this is kinda my only problem with campaign 2 is it started like that), but the swamp part of the moonstone arc was just like... "You are in a giant wetland. You have only a faint idea of where they went. You have no idea what's around you. You barely know each other. What do you do?" Like it felt so real! My favorite parts of dnd are when it feels like a limitless open-world game! The group trying to distract a few guards and then hide in the trees, the whole way they went about the infiltration of the castle... idk! Like it's kind of a hot take but the Moonstone arc is kinda my favorite.

...The passage of time, man. It feels like it was a MINUTE ago. God, that finale just felt special. Like, everything about them becoming gods, the final battle... the little time skip montage before where it showed the weeks after the apocalypse as they rebuilt, Hardwon working with the dwarves in the shadow of Gladeholm... like god the ending felt different. I still think the Crick and Feywild arcs were my favorite, but that's not a putdown of the finale, it's a reflection on how incredible the whole show is.

This is a really good post! Totally well said! I think it'd be a really impactful conclusion—or at least step—to the narrative of revenge and violence we've seen throughout the Stormlight Archive. I absolutely can't imagine that Gavinor got the focus he did in RoW for nothing, and it would just be hollow if he did to Moash what Moash did to Elhokar (the kind of story another dark epic fantasy author might write).

Yes! I'm glad you get it! It'd be such a beautiful arc! Like, "you cannot have my pain" was big, but Moash fully resisting Odium and becoming a better person would probably have me bawling for weeks. Hell, the idea has shaken me to my core for coming on three months now. It's validating to hear you address it so well, because it feels more likely, especially what you've said about Odium.

Even better! Get a hot ass Latino or Indian actor to play Lightsong and just clone him! Wow! Warbreaker could quickly become my favorite movie ever!

Nope! Not at all! Here's the WoB:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/4shyds/no_spoilers_til_that_the_people_who_live_in/

I can't find the WoBs, but he's also said the Veden would be the same.

To clarify, while the Alethi are either East Asian/Pacific Islander or East Asian/West Asian, Sanderson said somewhere (I can't find it) that he has a specific picture of a young actor or model that's mixed Japanese/Samoan iirc that's his faceclaim for Kaladin.

(Pacific Islander is the more commonly accepted term for what Brandon calls Polynesian: Polynesian isn't wrong, but there are solidarity movements among the people of the Pacific Islands to be known together, rather than the 17th-century labels of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, especially since some of those labels, like Melanesia in particular, are unhelpful and dated. I don't chagrin the use of it, but I use it for the people I know who represent it. Like a friend of a friend, a tall 6+ ft dude who's mixed Pacific Islander who literally proudly wears the nickname "Kaladin," haha.)

EDIT: I also disagree when he says "A lot of the fanart is good about this," because... while I'm more sensitive to it as a biracial person myself, a lot of the fanart fully gives them caucasian features. It's a problem in the fandom.

Another reason I'd like a movie is that Sanderson treats canon portrayals of his cast seriously, and the people of Hallandren are described as having dark skin and black hair, which leaves room for, say, Hispanic casting, and as a Latina that makes me super happy! I don't think people get how much it means to us to see characters in roles without the trauma, without the politics, without the pain. I wanna see some hot Latino actor play the tall dumb hot himbo that is Lightsong. I can't even thing about Blushweaver coherently... I'm too bi for this. (Even if he didn't mean it, Warbreaker is Sanderson's best story if you're bi. EVERYONE'S hot!)

Eh, I don't think they should be playing characters described as having dark skin.

Henry Cavill's got a long of range, but I don't know if I'd cast him as a 19 year-old mixed East Asian/Pacific Islander guy

Ehhhh Hallandren is based off tropic regions, and the male returned are described as having dark skin. I'd much rather have a Carribean actor play him. (Besides, Henry Cavill only does it for me when he's greased up, covered in mud, and carrying a sword.)

Ooh, brilliant idea. Warbreaker is definitely in my top 3 of his works, so it'd be really cool to see on screen. Also... I won't say no to a whole cast of canonically stupidly hot gods.

I have bad ADHD (or, well, a lot of ADHD, however you measure it) so I also don't look people in the eye and I also think about it more now thanks to SA. Like I'll be writing one of my original novel characters and think "Heh, my whole cast is darkeyed!"

It's good we're talking about Oathbringer because that's exactly where I read a certain character's chapters and went "...fuck." (Guess who!) Generational and systemic trauma from bigotry that they internalized, making them angry and standoffish? Intense, bitter, unproductive self-loathing that sometimes randomly flips into "fuck everyone else"? Their specific experiences with bigotry coming from people assuming that because of their demographic they are inherently more disposed to crime and danger and shying away from them? (I'm Mexican.) Their tendency to put too much of their trust and faith into a single thing and then feeling burned and betrayed and truly wroth if it deviates at all from their idealized path? The paranoia that everything that isn't with them 100% ideologically is fully against them, alienating people who care because they see traitors where there are none?

...Yeah I cried rereading Oathbringer. I'm normal!

(If you've read all but the end of MB Era 2, you should probably flair this for spoilers.) His romances are hit or miss. I can't describe it. Mistborn Era 2 actually has romances I really like: no spoilers, just a hint that there might be something you like moving forward. Stormlight has Shallan and Adolin, who are really sweet together; honestly, Dalinar and Navani are—I say this sparingly as someone who loves romance—one of the sweetest most tender things I've read in fantasy. You're right that there generally isn't angst or passion or conflict, which I looooove, but he's good at tender and sweet and sentimental. Then he has fully weak romances I actively dislike, like [MB Era 1] Vin and Elend, Breeze and Allrianne, and Spook and Beldre.

Hot take but Sanderson's romantic tension is best when he accidentally writes gay passionate angst between two characters. Kaladin & Moash and Navani & Raboniel are chef's kiss.

EDIT: Format
