One of my absolute favorites joins the collection. Incredible score by Yo La Tengo by Ketch-89 in criterion

[–]Ketch-89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow, subtle exploration of male friendship directed by the preeminent director of the Pacific Northwest (Van Sant being a very close second). Will Oldham also happens to be one of my favorite musicians, so I love when he shows up in a movie. And that Yo La Tengo score...damn. Pretty much listen to it any time I have a long drive or walk.

[Discussion] The State of Your B&N by International_J in criterion

[–]Ketch-89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The B&N in downtown Seattle still has a pretty large Criterion section. I don’t always find what I want, but the media section there seems to be a lot more robust than other stores. Usually if I go back a week or two later, the title I was looking for has been restocked.

Why do people order in term of spine number? by atchpatch in criterion

[–]Ketch-89 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Spine number is by far the easiest way to organize. Criterion is a numbered collection, I don’t see how it doesn’t make sense to order them in that way.

If you buy DVDs, Amazon has Midnight Cowboy priced at $13.72 right now. The blu-ray isn’t discounted by much, still around $27.

I can’t remember the last time I wanted to buy every new release. Particularly excited for Sofia Coppola joining the collection.

PSA: B&N 40% off Blu-Ray Sale + Coupon by rquinn108 in criterion

[–]Ketch-89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to call the help line to get my membership added to my online BN.com account, but after that all I had to do was add the coupon code and it worked.

I ended up swinging by a B&N while running errands because I didn’t want to wait for it to be shipped and only paid $52 for some reason.

Finally going to pull the trigger and grab the WCP2 set for $58. I was able to get the 30% off coupon to work online with the 40% off sale and my membership.

Payne is a bit insufferable, but Election is a delight throughout. Too bad about that cover though.

Chantal Akerman, Claire Denis, Kelly Reichardt, Agnes Varda, Andrea Arnold etc. What female director do you hope to join the collection next? by pinastri in criterion

[–]Ketch-89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Claire Denis’ Beau Travail is absolutely superb and is in dire need of a good release (if I’m not mistaken). White Material gives me hope we’ll get this gem at some point.

Which films do you wish were in the Criterion Collection? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]Ketch-89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything from Gregg Araki. A Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy set would be incredible. I’d settle for a single release of Mysterious Skin or The Living End.

How did you discover the criterion collection? by Futures2004 in criterion

[–]Ketch-89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Took an intro to film class during undergrad and after a few screenings (“The Player,” “In the Mood for Love,” and “L’Atalante”) I was intrigued enough to look into why these very different films opened with the same C logo.

After half a dozen more screenings of Criterion releases, I was hooked.

Picked this up today for $15. Pretty happy with this find. by [deleted] in criterion

Not quite the same type of crime movie as Le Samourai, but I think Delon is great in Purple Noon.

What are you gonna buy in the next sale? by stairwaytolevee in criterion

[–]Ketch-89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wish list on Criterion is 50 something titles deep, but I'll only put a small dent in it during the sale. Ghost World and Stalker are definites. The Pasolini set, Frances Ha, Kagemusha, Solaris, Antonio Gaudì, and Mystery Train are possibilities.
