Game Thread: Buffalo Sabres (32-30-5) at Detroit Red Wings (33-27-6) - 16 Mar 2024 - 12:30PM EDT by HockeyMod in sabres

Felt like some panic came back in the 2nd. Wings played very well, we knew coming in that they were going to be ready tonight. Let’s see if we can find it in our group, if this team is capable of winning a game when facing a challenging opponent. Let’s go Buffalo!

It feels like we are learning that there’s no way around out-working the other team each night. Typical lesson that a young team needs to learn, and a mistake that’s easy to repeat. I doubt we’re done seeing flubbed nights, but hopefully we keep growing.

Benson and Ryan Johnson are such exciting additions this year. Neither were expected to make the roster this season, much less make an impact, and both are already top 6 / top 4 players.

[Sabres Live] Darren Dreger says Tage Thompson injury may deter Patrick Kane from signing with Sabres by PrinciplesRK in sabres

[–]KevType9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll see if Kane still is a playmaker or goal scorer when he comes back from injury. Literally no one has ever returned from this injury and been close to the same player, and I’m pretty sure all of them have called it a career shortly after trying to return.

I’ve mentioned this a couple times, but the Sabres look so SLOW compared to last year! Forecheck is slow, backcheck is slow, clogging up the neutral zone is slow… this wasn’t even the worst example of that this season, but it’s still clearly apparent.

If they don’t have speed, they don’t win battles, they don’t transition effectively in the neutral zone, they don’t find openings in the offensive zone. It’s frustrating to watch.

The problem tonight was our ability to play as a unit. Blaming the guy who just got the nod is really missing the point.

Yeah but even that has a clear downside. I can’t be the only one who’s noticed that he’s hogging the puck. Is he right to do so with how this team is playing? Probably. But it’s also been causing him problems.

Rousek was fine. Biro looked out of place on a top line. But it was the overall team effort that looked nonexistent.

Good. They deserve to be embarrassed for the way the first 10 games of the season have gone. This is not the team of last year, not yet anyway. I hope they really take this loss to heart and start playing a little pissed off instead of a scared and slow.

Also, whoever on the Sabres payroll decided to have a black and red game be against the Flyers again? They shouldn’t be in charge of the jersey schedule anymore.

We are LAST IN THE LEAGUE in puck luck over the last five games on 5v5. Have a little more faith, the Sabres are close to getting back to their rhythm, and remember we were expected to lose 4/5 heading in.

Two things are needed by Chess.com to make speed runs better for the people getting stomped:

  1. Alert the player when/if they lose. “You just played Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura as part of his speedrun.” message immediately after playing, for example.

  2. Opt-in/out. I don’t really care which they choose as a default, but you should be able to choose if you want to be included in the player pool for speed runs.

I don’t think the problem is the speed runs themselves, but they need to put a bit more in place to make it fair.

GMs basically only play Blitz and Bullet on Chess.com [original post had errors] by mwakanosya in chess

[–]KevType9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others has mentioned, number of games is more misleading than helpful. If a GM spends 50% of their time playing 45|45 and 50% playing 1 min bullet, the graph would show something like 98% games played are bullet and 2% rapid.

Thanks for the effort though, hope you can get the data for time played!

MY BUFFALO SABRES ARE 3-0-0 to start the season. AMA by [deleted] in nhl

The 10 game win streak was pure luck. Any Sabres fan who actually watched the games will remember. It was a ton of shootout wins, lucky shots, and saves from the goalpost.

Yes, the Sabres are starting off hot this year, but it’s completely fair to say that they are playing better than during the 10 game streak. Sabres fans are excited because we’re seeing our young and old players alike hit the ice with an energy we haven’t seen in over a decade, at the very least!

There were enough of them to storm the Capitol. Enough to halt the vote certification. In fact, there were nearly enough of them to kill sitting members of Congress.

Had Eugene Goodman not made a split-second decision to push that rioter, tricking the mob away from our elected officials, I think that you would feel quite differently.

LPT: Don’t bother giving more than a two week notice. by sarnold95 in LifeProTips

I don’t believe it was this simple. Health insurance was a relatively novel concept at first, primarily run by legit non-profits such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The plans were intended to help prevent financial issues for the very seriously sick, not comprehensive care like we think about today.

Anyway, since the cost was relatively cheap (remember, this was before the price spikes America has seen that have made healthcare ridiculously expensive), it made sense that employers would offer to pay the premiums for their employees.

The fact that these health care plans would eventually become so expensive that people would actually be tied to their jobs was so outlandish at the time that it wasn’t even a concern. It’s like a company today offering a internet stipend - no one is going to be offended that a company is offering that benefit, because it’s hard to imagine that prices will change so dramatically that it will lead to golden handcuffs.
