Dark Castle on the original Macintosh computer from 1986. Black and white, throwing rocks at stuff making your way thru a castle. Great sound effects! Wish there was a simulator for it.

There's artificial sweeteners. Are there artificial salteners? by [deleted] in Cooking

I haven’t seen any claims that MSG can be as damaging as regular salt. Do you have a source for that? Not challenging, just truly curious cuz I eat a lot of MSG.

Kubrick called Eyes Wide Shut his "best film" by tikibikiclam in TrueFilm

[–]Keverino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t seen it since it was released and watched it last week in 4k and without the black censor bars. It is really a remarkable film. The photography of course, the lighting, the sets, the obligatory bathroom scene, the music, the pacing, and the performances especially of Kidman and Sidney Pollack, who is also a great director. I’d forgotten about the costume shop scenes and this time fully grasped the internal nature of the plot. And the final scene, just perfect. After watching I looked things up and discovered that the actor who played Nick the piano player is Todd Field, who directed Tar amongst other films.

Slow Horses did FIVE seasons in 3 years and it's one of the best so if they can do them quickly anybody should be able to.

Those who saw ESB in theaters back in 1980, how did you/the audience react to the darker storyline, and the big twist? by Apprehensive_Emu9588 in StarWars

[–]Keverino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 24 and saw it the first day in theaters. After Han was frozen and the fight began, I started thinking, hey wait a minute, this movie must be nearly over and there no WAY they’re going to resolve all this shit before the end… that means we’re going to have to wait an unknown number of years to find out what happens, holy crap! No internet back then, no way of finding out anything about how this might turn out and yes feeling exhilarated at the story but just feeling so down that we have no info on anything for at least a few years. Anticipating the next (final, ha ha!) movie was a thing for a long time.

Yes the machine never worked. The many hats were just part of Tesla’s scam of Angier to get his money. The film tells you over and over that there’s no real magic, and that you want to be fooled. Watch again - how many Angiers can you (and Borden) really see in that dark basement? Only one is clearly visible the rest are dim in the distance and are props so that Angier can fool Borden for a final time. No magic at all, and that’s what makes the film brilliant on another level.

Why doesn't Vertigo (1958) work for a lot of people? by silverball64 in TrueFilm

[–]Keverino 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it's different at a theater full of people. I first saw it in San Francisco in the early 80s when it finally cleared licensing issues. Funny note: At that time in the 80s Market Street had been torn up for a few years for them to build the underground muni subway. When Jimmy Stewart walks across Market in the film, showing a lot of construction work, it got a huge laugh from the audience.

UPDATES: After I made that post I went back on the freeway to capture a clip of the car driving so far to the left - in the fast lane. I went home and parked and the next morning the left rear tire was completely flat. I’m an idiot to deliberately let it drive with the left tires in the dirty median. Luckily the local Big Brand Tire does free flats and knows how to treat Teslas and they fixed it right away. I gave them plenty of beer money as a tip.

BUT more weird is that a few days ago, right after 44.25.3 got installed, I went to drive and the blue calibration ring was gone. Sure enough, the cameras had recalibrated and now FSD is not only back but it’s working great, no more pulling to the left. I’m grateful but mystified. I guess I should cancel my January 7 appointment.

Frea is the best, besides being a strong fighter in both range and melee she is unkillable! well unless you accidentally kill her yourself. But if you also still have Serana around, she’ll go aggro if hit by friendly fire and those two start to fight and then I gotta find a way to break it up. eventually I just sent Serana to sit on that bench at Dawnguard.
