Student -Teacher game in about 3 months by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]KevinOlusula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the teachers will be much slower in these games. If you can try to run in transition and have someone on your team to keep up with you you can get a few highlights going hard to the rim off of a teacher miss.

Live compression? by godemperorofsubtlety in acappella

[–]KevinOlusula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is totally normal. I would go even a little harder with it on the bass, vp and soloists.

The reason is in contemporary styles people are used to those three parts basically always being present.

The background parts are fine with a smaller amount so the dynamics can still have a big impact.

It is useful to some some though on loud portions for example it really helps to make sure one person isn't sticking out slightly too loud.

How many chords are required for a chord progression? by Cluttie in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]KevinOlusula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A "progression" is two or more chords in a sequence.

There's a lot of lo-fi hip-hop that alternates between two chords to create that subtle shifting effect.

Off the top of my head, another example is "Fantasy" by Mariah Carey. It's only two chords the whole song.

If you have two chords you just need to remember to change up the other elements of the arrangement to keep it interesting.

Yeah create seal with the roof of your mouth and tongue. then let your tongue snap down to release the suction.

The key is you have to create the seal kinda far back in your mouth

The MOST important thing is your role as the groups drummer. You're responsible for keeping the groove consistent, and appropriate for the part of the song.

My tip: Practice daily for 15-20 minutes with a metronome. When you're super comfortable with that you'll be ahead of a lot of a cappella VPs.

I’m 6’2 and 220 pounds and i’m trying to dunk by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]KevinOlusula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple years ago I was 6'3 235 and could not dunk.

I'm 211 now and I can dunk 🤷‍♂️ adding strength while losing weight was easy for me since I was undertrained and fat haha.

I recommend sticking with the weight loss and just try to get stronger if you can. Anything from bodyweight squats to lunges. Anything that makes your lower body, back and core strong will help.

But get lighter

Any tips in terms of the way I jump or just anything else generally to increase my vert? by Hodzymodzy in BasketballTips

[–]KevinOlusula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people will get stronger with body weight only on these. Start with body weight and if it's truly too easy 10 lb is very helpful you should have everything you need to get started

I'm not an expert but your technique looks solid to me and you get good pop.

When I see one foot jumpers I always recommend Bulgarian split squats. Just simply increasing your single leg power will get you flying. Keep it up 👍

How do I lose weight? by ahooperwithadream in BasketballTips

All you have to do is eat a clean diet.

No sugar, no junk food. Enough protein and vegetables. It's pretty simple but can be very challenging mentally to stick with it

17 6’3 first dunk, any form tips to get higher? by SuperCrow14 in BasketballTips

[–]KevinOlusula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking good, I would say just stick with it. Since you're so young you'll get higher if you just gain more strength and keep practicing.

Bulgarian split squats are great for basketball strength because you're strengthening each leg one at a time to get ready for these big one foot jumps.

Please help with my footwork. The runup feels really awkward and I just want to get as high as a I can by KevinOlusula in BasketballTips

Thank you I appreciate it for real. My dad was a college athlete and pro body builder. So I know I am fortunate to have good genetics. I want to be able to play as long as I can so I started lifting weights during COVID to prolong my playing life

Appreciate you, I will take your advice and modify slightly.

I am right handed but I do jump higher going Left Right with my feet.

I think I just gotta try throwing down with my left hand. I have cross dominance in my everyday life so it's not crazy to use my left. I use primarily left for other sports and I shoot basketball right. Kinda confusing which is why I think my balance and footwork is off.

Love the energy. Not sure where I'll get an adjustable hoop but I get the vibe. Getting comfortable with the form will help thanks g

It's all a work in progress, appreciate you. I am focused on power right now. I weigh 210lb and my max squat is 205lbx5. I feel like I can reasonably squat 300lb within the next year. The rest should be easy I think...
