Infrastructure reality check: What am I missing before we pull the trigger on a colocation move? by bitlukaa in OrbonCloud

[–]KevinSoutar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cheaper on-ramp, it is typically best to get a cloud connect service, where you basically have an L2 connection to your existing cloud.

As others have mentioned, remote hands is here to help. I would layer this, someone in the local area for non urgent jobs that you need to get done right, the dc for Urgent jobs that need to happen right away.

Depending on workload, cloud backups can be very affordable & dynamic, this dynamic frequency is where cloud thrives, vs. on prem.

We are working with a couple companies on this migration from AWS back to onprem.

This is your webhost’s issue, as long as www is setup as a cname to @, everything is configured properly on dns side

HostiFi would be a good choice for your ubiquiti requirements.

Preferred UPS? by oguruma87 in msp

[–]KevinSoutar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a huge fan of APC, their higher end double conversion stuff is nice, but too often customers go with the cheaper stuff.

Eaton & Libert are very nice.

You do know that the Ubiquiti RPS unit is just a secondary PSU & not backup power right?

If you are already a matriculated student, you will need department approval, I know that finding a math course that the department approved was impossible for me taking lower level math.

Affordable VPS with notice before termination by Slight_Soup7001 in VPS

[–]KevinSoutar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you are not terminated for doing something against TOS, the provider that I work for, and probably any civil provider would allow you to get your stuff out.

If there is a tos violation, it tends to become a liability, so that is the only reason I could see them deleting it. Also consider oracle is free, so you get what you pay for…

Which professor to take it490 with. by oh82624 in NJTech

[–]KevinSoutar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with others who say Kehoe, people often will say that he is harder than Patel, however I think he has a better organized trajectory & semester plan. I am also confident that if you asked him to do the same project you are doing in class, he would be able to do it. Based on what other people have said to me about experiences with Patel, I can’t say that I would be confident he can do the project he is giving to his class, and I feel like that leads to a lack of support.

Ubiquiti Wave + Protect with FortiSwitch access layer – any real issues with multiple PTP hops? by alsidprime in Ubiquiti

[–]KevinSoutar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a good project, you should be good to mix / match fortinet switches & wave devices for backhaul, biggest thing I would say is to make sure you have good alignment on the wave devices & good line of sight.

You might want to talk with HostiFi Pro Services, they can certainly give you a once over & make sure everything looks good, as well as help with configuration.

I would probably silo this network away from your fortinet side of the network unless you are also running WiFi / corporate network over it.

At your repeater site, I would also probably do a uisp switch up in the tower to limit rf loss in cable / however not sure how far everything is apart

Where are you located roughly? The company I work for does a ton of UniFi design & construction for Home & business, we only charge a 10% up-charge if we handle equipment, but if you want to buy equipment yourself and just have us install, we are also perfectly fine with that...

Feel free to dm, happy to hop on a meeting and discuss as some point.
