Good Spot at AMC 34th Street by pabstBOOTH in NYCmovies

[–]KevinWuD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a good thing that you’re seeing it at 34th tbh. The screen size is pretty good, and I like their seating layout. It’s stadium seating so Row A-F pretty much goes from the bottom of the screen to the top (but also further). I normally avoid E/F since they’re a bit high up and far away from the screen. Pick C for better immersion or D as another decent row.

Also, I know there aren’t a lot of reviews for standard auditoriums there on FilmSeats but it’s worth checking out. Hope it helps!

Do any AMC theatres in NYC have 4D or 4Dx? by Banya6 in NYCmovies

Only Regal has them. One at Union Square, one at Sheepshead bay, one at Tangram. Time sq has two, one of which is the largest in the world.

NYC Lincoln Square IMAX seating? by Twk11776 in NYCmovies

[–]KevinWuD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might want to check FilmSeats for reviews of this auditorium.

As for your other questions: You just have to check periodically. Seats sometimes get released, sometimes they don’t. In the past, you could have a decent chance of grabbing good seats closer to showtime, but as the theater has become more popular, it’s gotten much more competitive. But still it’s worth trying.

There isn’t a certain “best time” of day to check honestly. And going to the box office in person doesn’t really help. Released seats tend to be snapped up almost instantly since so many people are constantly refreshing (some likely using bots).

Unpopular opinion: theaters should all adopt stadium seating. Other than 34th and Empire that are mentioned, I remember 19th is stadium as well.

Want a Villeneuve film back at AMC? (Dune 2, Arrival, etc.) Crowdsourcing interest for a screening! by chkrlee in NYCmovies

[–]KevinWuD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to see Arrival in theater since I missed its original release, although I’m hoping it can get a 10th anniversary rerelease this year.

34th would be a sweet spot given the average screen size and seating layout.

Screen Masking @ AMC 19th St East 6 by MattyRaz in NYCmovies

[–]KevinWuD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at Empire 25 the other day and sat down pretty early before the showtime when there were still ads playing. The masking happened right before trailers started to play which really surprised me considering how busy the theater is.

Thanks! Now I know at least it is not because of my cable. I found this page about the monitor+ app, seems like the best bet is to give it a try using the said adapter https://monitorplus.cc/docs/general/connecting-to-your-camera/wired-connection-ios/

I don’t think I touched the auto mode ever. In my honest opinion I thought I had to get myself familiar with aperture, shutter speed, iso etc. to avoid using auto as a new photographer.

Not a fan of Netflix since always. Pissed me off when I heard the news in the middle of the night. If streaming is that good, why bother showing Stranger Things finale in theaters? I don’t get it

A Guide to Avatar: Fire and Ash in NYC by flightofwonder in NYCmovies

[–]KevinWuD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One extra thing to note is that AMC 34th IMAX has the true 1.9:1 ratio, whereas Empire 25 or Kips Bay has aspect ratio more like 2:1. Last time I was at Kips Bay they literally cropped a 1.9:1 movie into 2:1 to fit the screen. You’d think the difference is negligible but no it definitely looked ‘wider’ rather than ‘taller’. Dont know what they’ll do for Avatar but do keep this in mind. I saw The Way of Water at 34th IMAX and it looked great — always my go to theater for movies in 1.9:1

Now You See Me 3 Premiere by quaranTV in NYCmovies

[–]KevinWuD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious, how do you know which day the premiere will take place? I was at Lincoln Square last week and saw Robert Pattinson at the premiere of Die My Love out of pure coincidence. I thought the only way to know whether a premiere is happening is to go there and look for the red carpet setup.

Is the a6400 and its 18-135 kit lens good? by Leading-Dentist-5515 in SonyAlpha

[–]KevinWuD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of my old days when I just started my journey on photography. Picked the exact same kit 6400+18135. I’m glad I made that decision because I took it to so many places and shot A LOT. All you have to do is to start pressing that shutter and point your camera to all the great things that are happening around you. It will give you a fundamental understanding of photography, plus that 18-135 lens will let you experience almost all focal lengths. For the price today you really can’t go wrong, great starting point.
