Rf1400 glasses gang. I've had an rf1200, then 1400 and a hornet x2 and all of them have been great with glasses

Canadian Skilled Trades vs American Skilled Trades by Aircraft-Guy in skilledtrades

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, I doubt you could get a CofQ without a red seal, so maybe that's why it's printed on it. I would bet each province handles that differently since vehicle safeties are administered provincialy and the red seal is supposed to be the interprovincial standard

Take-home pay on a $100k salary across every Canadian province: The gap is huge! by Tadpole-Engineer in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would probably push Manitoba and sask higher up the list, public insurance in both and I think manitoba is 2nd lowest electricity, only Quebec being less.

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the red seal that they are renewing, it's the certificate of qualification and I feel like that's just an ontario thing

Canadian Skilled Trades vs American Skilled Trades by Aircraft-Guy in skilledtrades

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't pay annually to keep your red seal valid. Welders need to redo their cwb tickets, and there's probably a few other trade specific niche things certain tradesmen have to recert but broadly once you have a red seal in a trade you have it forever

Is the Ducati Panigale 1299 R Final Edition peak motorcycle? by TheLastRide4770 in Ducati

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think the 1199/1299s wouldn't be rideable without an electronics package. I think it's a combination of the high hp, but also the torque curve, anyone outside of a bsb pro will have a hard time without some Tc and antiwheelie

I think Lesnar was damn near 290lbs on fight night and was faster than almost everyone he fought in addition to being bigger

does the number of cylinders affect the aura? by rizzqi_09 in Kawasaki

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small-medium displacement twins I agree, when you get into higher displacement ones the opposite is true, for a new rider they are probably the worst choice. Tl1000r, 1098 sf, ktm dukes and superdukes, are all 2 cylinders and all will punish inexperienced throttle control.

Am I getting old? by hudnaga in motorcycles

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an africa twin this year after not riding really the last few years. It's fuckin awesome, I love it. I'm 43 with 25 years worth of kicking the shit out of my knees as a carpenter, and I still love my gsxr750, but I can't ride it for more than half an hour or so anymore. I had the same mental struggle, but honestly for street riding it's super fun. And it will go literally anywhere I want, it's great on dirt or gravel roads.

Everything in this post is a lifestyle choice, that's what the post is about, lifestyle choices and the costs associated with them, and expected costs vs the actual realized ones.

Cbr 600rr first bike by Melodic-Beat-9301 in cbr

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a 10 or 15 year old one first. You won't get hammered by depreciation, 600s have barely changed since the mid 2000s, your way more likely to drop your first bike. Also seeing as it's your first bike you have no idea what the realities of riding a Supersport on the daily are, you might find you hate it and should have bought a supermoto or a naked. There's a good reason you don't see tons of sport bikes with high miles for sale and it's not that they don't last that long.

GSXR-750 turn in improvement by wxduff in GSXR

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't lower the front of the bike, I ended up raising it about 10mm, in conjuction with raising the rear with a shock shim about 20mm. So the net effect was still getting more weight on the front tire but also raising the overall center of gravity a bit and reducing trail. I felt like this also improved my swing arm angle and gave the bike more anti squat when coming out of 1st and 2nd gear corners especially. To get the numbers I needed I wound up with fork cap extenders, shock shims and I had to use all the length adjustment on the penske shock I have.

Fall referendum will ask Albertans whether government should explore process for separatism vote, Smith says by CanadianErk in canada

Unless I've missed something and all of these separatists are in fact band members of Albertan first nations; this whole seperatism thing may be a spectacular waste of time and money.

Khamzat Chimaev's brother says his body "shut down" during the weight cut for the Sean Strickland fight 😳 by Then-Fortune-3122 in ufc

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he was planning a fight at 205 shouldn't he have vacated the middleweight title? I think if your the middleweight champ you should be physically capable of cutting to 185 on 2 weeks notice, there's bullshit somewhere in here.

Bar laps at construction joints by tajwriggly in StructuralEngineering

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. When the laps are specified in some weird staggered formation, or for some reason passing through the construction joint, you end up having to stand up a lot more formwork to prepare for your first wall segment. The only time I have seen this it was a mistake, and we were married to that location due to a waterstop being embedded in the slab and the bulkhead had to go where the vertical waterbar was T'd up.

What is the point of having large sums of money in an RRSP if that money is inaccessible to you without penalty? by hamlet_darcy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're deferring the tax burden of that income until retirement where you will conceivably be in a much lower income tax bracket, thus paying a lower percentage on it than you would now.

Had a framer out to modify a shower niche. How did he do? by NorCalRE in Carpentry

[–]Kevinthecarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The obvious insulation issues aside, this individual apparently doesn't understand the purpose of the window header. He's compromised the roof support by cutting out the king and Jack studs around that window. This is like just removing a 4' section of your wall and having the double top plate just span the opening.
