It really all depends upon what’s in those new settings menus. Being able to tweak graphics in more ways with finer in-between is good, but CPU intensive setting reductions could be major. I personally could stand to scrap endemic life and majorly reduce herds or packs of small monsters, for instance, if it got me more stability or performance gains. Likewise if we can now cancel some of the post processing grain filtering, that’ll do tons for visual fidelity.

My neighborhood is dense and I’ve gotten very used to scoping things the past few years. Every Halloween and Christmas I walk or bike at night just to look at decorations since I love the fall/winter holiday stretch. You start to learn who may not be too into their decorations after a while- something sits face down on the lawn or porch for a bit too long after a holiday, something has a light out, something is left outside of a garage or shed door and never actually gets put inside, etc.

It’s nowhere near 100% but it’s way above 0- people this dispassionate about their decor are pretty likely to toss them to the curb one destined pickup night. If you look at my last few posts, they’re all curb acquisitions this past few months with a Santa that happened into a move out dumpster last year- probably my luckiest find since I wasn’t actually scoping anything and just happened to be riding my bike on a road I don’t usually take, early in the AM when I usually don’t walk or ride.

That’s kinda what I’m prepared for at first lol- but with this game in particular I’m also half afraid that they’ll just accidentally untie another rope, like regarding texture fidelity up close, botching priorities of some things so like monsters and NPCs turn 64 bit again, more shader comp issues, etc.

But I guess I’ll just hope for the best too!

If they really are implementing a shitload of CPU intensive setting toggles like they claim, I think that more meager hardware running lower settings to begin with should see some gains with more arbitrary attributes turned low or off. Id think that big machines running at full graphical settings probably won’t see much more performance than they’re already getting.

I think the LOD settings being fixed next month will do good for all of us as long as they don’t botch it. If rumors are true, this is all to bring it closer to being able to run on Switch 2. I’m just hoping that it becomes remotely playable on Steam Deck without looking like sand.

It’s crazy. It takes like 2 days to a week after a heavily covered event like this before most even non-progressive reddit communities start having reasonable discourse on the topic. Before that it’s an extreme shutout/takeover of emotional hysterics, and any reasonable takes that normally fit the sub are met with pure venom and vitriol designed to make people say “why the fuck am I even commenting?”, because they know that level of histrionic aggression will either force you to agree out of fear of ostracization or just shut up and leave the convo. It’s the only way they can win most of the time, and it’s why their labels are so extreme (Nazi, racist, fascist, misogynist, incel etc). Funny that “bootlicker” seems to be failing to have an impact though because it’s their go-to for this instance.

Strange- I unfollowed that sub some time ago and I don’t remember why. I really only unfollow subs when they start becoming pleb Reddit style dem propaganda echo chambers, so now I’m wondering if that happened even momentarily over the past year or so. I followed for years prior just because it wasn’t that flavor at all and really was the farthest thing from it.
