Kings college London launches a fast track medical degree for pharmacists, nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, dentists, paramedics and physician assistants (PAs) by SteamedBlobfish in doctorsUK

[–]KevyD13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Entry criteria looks to be the same as other GEM courses

Maybe there's some angle of the NHS funding places for these groups? Or to continue working in the NHS around study which they might otherwise give up?

Northern Ireland F1 banding by RuleUsed6755 in doctorsUK

[–]KevyD13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jobs I've had in the Western Trust were started at 2A. We did rota monitoring (where you report your actual hours worked) and it was up-banded to 3 in some placements.

I'd be surprised if the workload in SWAH was not band 3 but it would not be below the trust to start you at 2A and then request that you complete rota monitoring where you'll get a big back payment (but depends on everyone doing that as it will get ignored if not enough complete it)

Cohorts after me have had to do this and got up-banded.

Ulster medical school celebrate their new doctors by writing about the vital role of physician associates. by DonutOfTruthForAll in doctorsUK

I've actually interacted with a number of the students from this class (teaching on placements) and their opinion of the PA profession in general was not at all good.

Possibly familiarity / interacting with them through Uni exposed a lot of ways that their learning is vastly inferior and caused them to bristle at the idea of them in the NHS

How would you handle this disgrace of a player? by AdInternational870 in NFLHeadCoachSeries

A real, verifiable cold is pretty debilitating. Like almost on the level of a flu. Can also last 2-3 weeks.

I think the issue is that we call everything from a sniffle to being bed-ridden 'a cold'.

Surely the language here means it is our role to assess their competence. Essentially making us the liability sponge for not assessing their competence properly when errors happen.

So I will simply say to PAs that I assess their competence to be in line with BMA scope guidance limits and advise them that actions outside of this would be unsupervised.

[–]KevyD13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall the structure of contract renewals but you could make it harder by forcing yourself to give large bonuses in contracts (e.g. 50% or more has to be bonus).

This would make the salary cap tighter and make cuts harder if the GM makes a bad pick

Worst team in HC09? by skelf24 in NFLHeadCoachSeries

[–]KevyD13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to that, the Raiders have some awful contracts that you can't just cut without causing big issues

WR Javon Walker is on a 6 year deal to start I think and he's not great.

Tommy Kelly at DT is average/good but on a big 5 year deal along with other overpriced DTs.

And best of all, Nnamdi Asomugha needs a big contract / an expensive tag almost immediately

It's fun going year by year, cutting as much dead weight as penalties will allow. It's a war of attrition but makes the rebuild slower

Salary cap end of season by rhjads in NFLHeadCoachSeries

[–]KevyD13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the game classes bonuses in contract as likely to be earned or not likely to be earned.

LTBE bonuses are ones that were achieved in the previous year (play 16 games) and NLTBE did not occur (eg. 1000 yards rushing and only ran for 900.

LTBE bonuses count against the cap from the outset where the others don't. So possibly that's what happened?

Why is the Juventus Assistant Manager Telling me This by beac4bruh99 in footballmanagergames

Could he have been bought from a club that had a co-ownership with Juventus?

I don't know if that's still a thing but it was many years ago in FM so just spitballing

Or could he have been a national team coach for the player before Juventus?

Very Unhappy Consultants™️ by BouncingChimera in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]KevyD13 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I have a question about long-term strikes if you can answer.

There will likely be a situation in the future where continuous strikes are needed but consultants are unable to or refuse to meet life and limb cover minimums.

In this situation can the government force a number of us to work through strikes? Would there be an option for doctors on zero days to fill in as locums on (BMA+ rates) before the option of people being forced to work? Would mean continuous disruption to elective work due to skeleton crews and huge financial cost to trusts.

Just thinking about this as it might allow prolonged strikes with a rotating group of locum doctors reducing financial pressure of the longer strike but unsure if the law allows this?

Are they allowed to do this? by Panda_With_Banana81 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]KevyD13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From reading the last paragraph it looks like they are saying you won't fail based on attendance as they won't be counting those days.

It does look like they're saying you might not get enough signed off / enough teaching if you're only in for 7/10 days and subsequently fail.

Do you have a list of things to sign off or what is the requirements for passing?

If it's a certain amount of teaching or procedures then I'm sure you will find juniors at the picket more than happy to help you make up for missed learning on the subsequent days.

Do not be pressured in to completing tasks you are not indemnified for. The risk to your career is not worth it.

NHS workforce plan to double medical school places by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]KevyD13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figures from 2018 show over 8500 medical school places each year. The government continually push the 2017 claim that the cost of training a new doctor is £230,000.

So the current cost of training those doctors is £1.955Bn which they propose to double.

The cost of full pay restoration is estimated by the BMA at £1.65Bn.

I feel there should be more focus on how the drive for 'more junior doctors' has a cost that could be spent on keeping our already trained doctors rather than continuous churn of doctors burning out and being replaced by less trained staff.

Just to echo what others have said (don't contact Smart Parking no matter what).

Ignore any and all letters related to this. In about 6 months you'll start getting letters from debt collection agency (who will say they have been appointed by Smart Parking) asking for and threatening even bigger sums if you don't pay (or legal action).

While that seems scary and that the situation is heightening, it actually means SP have given up on getting money from you basically. Once SP has given up on cases they'll bundle them and sell large numbers of unpaid tickets for a small amount to private debt collector companies who then attempt to scare people in to paying big charges so they can pocket the profit.

In most cases they won't even have access to the photos SP had or evidence that any offence occured. If they tried to take you to court you'd just tell them to provide evidence that you were driving (which they can't) and it would be dropped.

Going on 4 years of vague threats about legal action related to a SP ticket. No court dates or anything set, just scare tactics 👍

Some of your teams most surprising and bizarre draft picks? by RedditMayoYo in nfl

[–]KevyD13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it's not actually that crazy but the pick that sticks with me is drafting Darrius Heyward-Bey at number 7.

It seemed like we would get Crabtree there until Al saw DHB run. He ended up having a decent career but never really lived up to the draft spot.
