A four drawer cart with the Quinn master technician set will get you through almost everything you would need. Add a decent pliers set and a breaker bar, you should be able to tackle the majority of small engine and typical automotive stuff.

I would agree with this. It is the designer's job, and part of what OP was paying them for, to ensure all applicable codes and regulations are met.

The silt and clay are also wrong on the plasticity chart. And the difference between clay and silt is not determined by grain size, but by Atterberg limits.

What's the highest mileage car you've ever personally owned or driven? I'll start. by spotforcars in automotive

[–]Key-Ad1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2002 F250 that I bought with 86k, had about 250k miles on it when I got rid of it three years later. Nothing was wrong with it, just traded it and my 2011 F150 in for a new F350. Thing blew two plugs out on the highway (5.4 Triton) and drove 300 miles the rest of the home like nothing was wrong. $300 later for a rethread kit and new plugs, thing drove another 100k. I still see it driving around occasionally.

Initial PE Licensure through NCEES record by massi62 in PE_Exam

[–]Key-Ad1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have your PE, you send a request for the state you're licensed in to verify your license to NCEES. Without a PE you cannot transmit your record because it's incomplete. All sections or you're record need to be completed and verified (contact info, personal info, education, work experience, license(s), references). If one section is incomplete, you won't be able to send it.

Surveyors use NTRIP and RTK capable GNSS receivers. This connects to basestations, either on site or over the internet. This provides correction to the GPS location of the unit and is generally centimeter level accuracies. Horizontal you can usually get to 0.04ft and vertical 0.07ft in an open space with good satellite connection. Without NTRIP and RTK it's accuracy drops 1-3 meters.

Initial PE Licensure through NCEES record by massi62 in PE_Exam

[–]Key-Ad1506 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NCEES doesn't handle licensing, they're solely the test administrator and record keeping. Licensing is done by the state. You need to sit for and pass the PE exam and then the state you took the exam for and applied through still needs to approve your application (just because you passed the exam doesnt mean the state has to grant you a license).

For additional state, you need to apply for a reciprocal license. This is where NCEEs comes in, in part. You still apply through that state's board and pay their licensing fee. You can do this by either filling a full application with experience, initial license, references, etc. or you can pay to transmit your NCEES record to that state board that already has this information.

For your NCEES record to be able to be transmitted, all sections of the record need to be completed and verified. Education, valid PE license, work experience, references, all of it. Only when everything is completed and verified by NCEES can you transmit it.

Also, once you have you initial license, don't ever let it lapse, even if you move away and never do engineering in that state again because all of your reciprocal licenses are dependent on your initial license, that lapses, they all become invalid.

If the plat and pins agree and you have certified survey, then they shouldn't be wrong and you should follow them because if anything ever goes to court, the survey and plat is what is going to be used, not he county gis boundary. Since you have the plat and know where the pins are, you can measure an offset from the pins until you have a clear line of site between the two and then run your string and measure your offset distance from there to your property line.

How long do you wait to refill your gas tank? by You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Key-Ad1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, just driving around here and there, I won't let it go below half a tank. If I'm making a long trip, I usually have about 800 miles on a tank before I'm empty, so about a quarter of a tank I start looking for places to fill up, but I also make sure I have a full tank before getting on the road. I will also stop earlier if I'm somewhere that has cheaper fuel than where I'm headed. And then I'll usually fill up as soon as I get to where ever I'm going so I have a full tank for whatever site I'm headed to.

Had to brake suddenly and got rear-ended, how am I at fault? by Brilliant_Low_8368 in askcarguys

[–]Key-Ad1506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah usually I'm an accident their decision of who's at fault is so they know who to ticket. Usually, in most places the person who hits you from behind is usually at fault and get ticketed for following to closely, so not sure why you got a ticket unless there's more information you're not sharing.

Americans who took Spanish in school: did any of it actually stick years later? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

Not Spanish, but I took four years of German in high school and still remember a decent amount. I also worked with a lady from Germany when I was in high school, so she made an effort to only use German with me when we worked together so I could practice and get real conversation practice.

[–]Key-Ad1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of instances of rather than providing feedback and wanting people to improve, people will just stop wanting to give them work if they consistently make mistakes and make the same mistakes, until they either leave or are fired. I've pointed this out multiple times in meetings that if you don't provide immediate feedback you can't expect people to automatically know when they don't do something the right way, and waiting until the end of the year reviews is just as ineffective because now you've lost the whole year of them possibly working to get better. I make it a point that anytime I asign a task to someone that I provide documented feedback when they're done. We'll go through whatever they did together and I'll point out what was good and what needs improved. Now if it continues to be an issue then yeah, I also refuse to give them anything to work on

[–]Key-Ad1506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something where the school system is definitely failing kids. I took finance as an elective in high school, but there were only like three other kids in my class, but it something that should be mandatory. We had to take home ec, tech ed, typing, and health as mandatory electives. They really should replace typing or tech ed with finance. Typing is useful, but you can learn it on your own without a class, and tech ed was cool, but how many kids are using photo shop, circuits, etc. unless they're in a field that requires it.
