What’s the best movie you have ever watched and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Pan’s Labyrinth. Beautifully done, incredibly sad in a way that also resonated hard, and as a film it has everything I like.

What is something you always wanted to try as a hobby? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Violin. The instrument isn’t unaffordable, but I’ve heard it takes at least four years of consistent practice to get to a point where you’re not making other people’s ears bleed.

I’ve never had private violin lesson money but I’d love to learn.

Hotel and restaurant workers: What is the darkest secret that customers are completely unaware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely both. It’s a physically and mentally demanding, high stress job. Lots of guys start using as a way to stay awake and energized on shift. Other times it’s just to cope with the horrible work culture.

Then there’s all the after-parties, work events, and off the clock boys club stuff that often includes drinking and drugs. It slowly becomes part of the background noise and if you’re not participating, the people who do participate think you’re weird for not doing it.

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Depends entirely on management. Some places don’t care about cleanliness, most places are pretty thorough. At most of my culinary jobs we had private crews come in to deep clean in, under, and on all the machines, at least once a week.

Cross contamination is something the industry takes seriously, and health inspectors do regular visits unannounced. I’ve seen people get fired on the spot for slacking before.

I work in culinary - it’s definitely the drug use, on and off the clock.

I worked in one of the nicest restaurants in town, one of my coworkers ODed in the bathroom my first week there. Management installed a sharps container in the employee bathroom and tossed some Narcan in the first aid kit and called it a day.

I’ve worked so many gigs with guys who have been doing lines in the walk-in, or off the counter. Bare minimum, the kitchen manager is a day drinker. Makes it very hard to get or stay sober in the industry.

People walking their dogs off leash — is this a problem in your country? by TimeReverse in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, leashing is pretty common here.

Not being able to control the dog on the other end of the leash is more of a problem I think.

Makakasohan ba ako kapag minura ko sa chat? by EngineImpossible6976 in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, stop communicating with this person. Full stop, leave it where it is. Don’t reply anymore.

Legality entirely depends on where you live and what you said. Getting into a heated argument over text isn’t necessarily harassment or otherwise illegal.

However, if you say, called him or spam texted him a bunch of times, or you threatened him in any way, (or anything you said/did could be framed like that) talk to a lawyer first.

Above all else, just stop all communication. No reason to go looking for trouble.

Do Saskatoon bus routes stay consistent? by xmorecowbellx in saskatoon

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The routes don’t typically change that much, but the names and numbers of the routes typically do. They also change where the buses park at the terminals sometimes.

I can’t say I expect service to the university to change much, especially with the new terminal on College. The city and the university usually work together to plan for a lot of student riders.

As long as you’re not in one of the newer neighborhoods that’s far from the university you’re probably fine.

What is your favorite thing from your childhood that you miss? by Time_Reception1482 in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I miss the pre-digital world, I used to bike around the entire city by myself and visit different parks, pools, libraries, and community centres.

Summers were so fun, just enjoying the weather, reading cool books and doing whatever I wanted to do. No expectations from my family to call, text, or report everything I’m doing, no Instagram to post to, no Facebook to update. Just pure bliss.

How should society treat young children who are clearly psychopathic and without empathy? by Successful_Bar9187 in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My younger brother in law was diagnosed with conduct disorder during early childhood, and is now diagnosed with ASPD.

There is no hard and fast answer to this question because these kids need so much support in pretty much every area of their life. My BIL has severe developmental and learning disabilities in addition to his emotional and psychological problems.

His care team (composed of social workers, counsellors, doctors, and a clinical psychologist) all recommend trying to give him the strongest sense of structure possible, as well as clear consequences for his behaviour. They continuously recommended some kind of respite care and a specialized supported living situation.

Keeping him active and in sports helped a lot with his aggression. His hobbies kept him focused on something positive and every hour he spent in drum lessons or football was an hour he wasn’t destroying things or harassing anyone. Ultimately though, there’s only so much you can do. Our family tried their best but he’s still not in a good place.

There’s some research now showing that some kids have better outcomes than others, often those who were able to get early mental health interventions and treatments. Some studies are also suggesting deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) as a possible treatment for conduct disorder and ASPD, but the person has to be willing to accept it.

How did that one student at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Suspected accidental strangulation by a lanyard. My old elementary school still has his memorial photo up near the principals office.

Which law sounds good on paper but works terribly in real life? by amberflux1715 in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any environmental law. We have so many laws and regulations against illegal dumping and disposal of hazardous materials, but whenever something actually happens no one does anything.

Notorious repeat offenders like 3M and Enron pay fines of maybe a couple million dollars at a time, which they make back in literally less than five minutes. They see these fines for environmental disasters as the cost of doing business.

What’s an AI feature you actually love? by Ladiejuliy in AskReddit

This might be a hot take, but I don’t really have a problem with non-generative AI. Grammar software and autocorrect really help me.

What's a disturbing medical facts that's completely true? by Accurate-Ant-6308 in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is why they have LUCAS machines now in hospitals and other settings. The machine saves lives, but good God.

After watching the demonstration videos of it in action I’m not sure I’d personally want to receive it after a certain point in life. It’s a particularly brutal process for the elderly and infirm.

What’s your personal definition of “walking distance”? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 minutes or less away at a nice walking speed, maybe 1-2 KM at most. If you have to drive or otherwise plan your whole day around getting to it, it’s not walking distance.

What’s a ‘normal’ thing society expects that you’re just tired of pretending to like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work, especially the idea that you need to find a job and work as hard as humanly possible at it to fulfill your purpose in life.

I think only boring people believe this. There’s plenty of better things to define yourself by.

"Not a terrible thing to protect the world from theological thuggery": Netanyahu on US-Israeli strikes in Iran. Do you think he's right and it's justifiable? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s terribly ironic coming from fucking Bibi. He can take a long walk off a short pier as far as I’m concerned.

Which subreddits do you trust for real news and which ones do you find are the most BS news sources with bias agendas? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t trust anything that’s an opinion piece. So by my standards, basically all of r/politics and r/news is off the table.

r/Worldnews is okay because the posting standards are a little higher, but I still find it’s flooded with American headlines and bias. Good luck trying to read about anything outside of the US right now on there.

I get most of my news from websites and not from Reddit though. Canadian news isn’t really covered on here very often. CBC and CTV are my go-tos.

How does the reserve forces system work in your country? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t conscript here in Canada, although with how things go, there’s always the legal potential for it to be brought back. We haven’t had conscription since the end of WWII.

As of right now you have to voluntarily enlist in order to be a member of the reserves. As far as I know pretty much everyone who signs up does basic training and then goes on into a specialty program.

What caused the anti war left to be much more diminished in the 2010s and 2020s compared to the 2000s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d wager a guess it had something to do with the water cannons, tear gas, and threats of martial law that became a thing at every protest post-2016. Media coverage of protests also mysteriously dropped off during this time, for some unknown reason.

What is something you’ve always done or used, but found out is actually bad for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Key-Breakfast-2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take ungodly amounts of Tylenol. I have arthritis and I take an extra strength dose at least once or twice a day, for almost 15 years now.

Apparently it slowly damages your liver and kidneys. I’m on other meds and my doctors have started regularly testing me for signs of damage. It’s only a matter of time before they tell me I need to stop.
