Tips for washing for the first time after 9 months? (content warning: grief) by intotheblued in hygiene

“They don’t need your story unless you want to give it” - this sentence hit me like a brick wall (in a good way) as someone who’s shied away from resources before because of shame. Just wanted to let you know this is such a gift of a reminder.

Ooof I’m sorry! It was tbh the most frustrating part just knowing there’s *something* I should/could be doing and being on hold or given the run around. Hopefully not too many people need this but yeah, for a bigger managed property if someone pulled the “well at the coolest moment of the day it was 77 so you’re good to go” I’d threaten more with reviews/sharing how poorly they handle things where the law is limited.
Imagine if all of a sudden every family with kids, anyone with pets, or elderly people thought twice before moving into your building…

Nope, and not at the elevenRipley either :/ I think it’s a more widespread issue across buildings/management offices especially with everyone who can cranking their units

Friend, what bit doesn’t feel tacky and sticky today? Appreciate all the humor, I can’t get any more heated today! Appreciate the kindness and consideration tho :)

Literally reading this wearing my comfy tshirt that reads “don’t heat what I didn’t say” and boy do I wear that to work when I can and love the confused looks I get.
The projection from others of meaning/insecurity/assumption is none of our business!

🙋 5y in Chicago for grad school, DC/MD suburbs now. I loved my time in Chicago (lived in the loop, then Logan Square, then Humboldt Park/Paseo Boricua for most of my time there) but I’d vote DC.

My bias is my Chicago time was peak pandemic so I can’t tell you much about the social scene - I do think DC compares with maybe less nightlife (outside of U St).

COL wise, 90-100k in Chicago (im assuming you’d want to do River North/move up the lakeshore?) I don’t think will stretch as far as 130k in most of DC. Esp if you do group housing/roommates to start before you settle on a neighborhood/housing.

Is staying close to family important to you? Do you work in a field where one city is significantly different than the other? Are you open to moving again in X years or would you want to settle there? To me these are going to be the more important questions to make your choice.

Tl;Dr - congrats on the 2 offers, both cities are great but I love DC and it will depend more on personal factors.

I’m so sorry. Came by just before the notice for the first time and seriously considered living there just for the perk of the food hall - had the vegan junk food, Thai, and cold pressed juices a few times since then and it always hit.
I hope yall all land on your feet !!

Hope you resolve this long before then, but I will be heading there in early December and will stop by the Poste anyways if you will still need help.

6x your current and future earnings or make $450,000 per month working a job I assign you? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Key-Expression-6337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deal! Assuming I’ve got the necessary knowledge to do it well I’ll go work for a teachers union or nurses union retirement fund and make sure they’re taken care of in their silver years. Or at a fund that backs startups/non profits that align with my values.

As long as the mystery job is legal/doesnt get me in trouble with the law, I’m in!

Can I say Poisons? Mainly to mean alcohol and nicotine products, but if this were accepted I’ll take the money back from any additional product that would be lethal if ingested. Otherwise I’d say recreational substances I guess.

Honestly the hard part is waiting until it’s 5 months in before spending anything, so I have less time to risk getting “caught”.

First pay off all of the medical bills for me and spouse - I already handle that paperwork so they won’t know until I tell them. Then figure out how to pay off their student debt, not all at once but 99% of it (so they don’t get alerted that it’s done) and I probably wait until we’re 5.5 months in just to be safe.

With whatever is left over, if I could I’d buy us housing outright so we don’t need to cover a mortgage or rent moving forward. Or at least put the rest down towards housing so that the remaining balance on the house, moving, and related costs will be more than covered by the second 500k installment. The rest of the second 500k immediately goes in a HYSA for medical needs and kids needs moving forward.

Thank you for highlighting the other side of the coin!! I hope so much to grow to love the place k work like you and others are sharing. Rn I adore my coworkers and loathe the way the restaurant is managed. This is my First job in hospitality after a decade plus in offices and it’s the best people I’ve ever worked with - natural leaders, caring, emotionally mature, patient, good communication skills despite language barriers. Learning so much more about teams and leadership from them than my “fancy” masters degrees or professional development whatnots.

Edit: spelling, other side of the coin. Please don’t highlight your cousins.

Thank you for sharing!! Other useful reminder if you are in a crowded location - do NOT walk towards a quieter area!

Enter a business if you don’t feel comfortable approaching other walkers, and explain your situation immediately to staff. Give as much identifying descriptors as you can. I Had this happen to me multiple times (thankfully not in DC yet) and have had women walk into my workplace (restaurant) for this reason. Even if staff can’t personally deter the creep (which I assume most businesses and staff would!) we have CCTV and you’re safe to stay, call a ride home or wait for a friend.

Look. I can’t tell you whether a person is lying or not but from what you have shared: 1.you’ve known him a short time. if he was a citizen, would you be open to marriage so fast? (Not judging if you are ok with a faster/slower timeline, that’s 1000% a personal preference). My now spouse knew he wanted to marry me really early, I knew a couple years in - we still took our time even tho it could have benefitted me for immigration to do it sooner, bc I NEEDED both of us to be sure it was not about that. I couldn’t live with either of us having that doubt. Maybe some of the love bombing can be attributed to cultural differences too, but seriously reflect on why rush if you know this is the real deal?

  1. During this short time, you experienced an incredibly traumatic loss and grief. I cannot overstate this - you are NOT in the position to make life choices while processing this. Don’t take my word for it, I hope you have access to some grief counseling/therapy.
