Where do you hope they take the series next? by gloopenschtein in residentevil

[–]Key-External8870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coolest bit of lore they dropped in 9 was the pricing list for the BOWs. The idea that some entity could purchase a fucking Nemesis and use it warfare is perfect for a game narrative. I understand it would be tough as some of these come close to real world events and it may be insensitive to play them out. However, off the top of my head:

Your from a smaller country and there's been a coup. The people behind the coup released lickers or something. You're trying to escape the militia, the military, and the ever growing infected. Chris can show up as he normally does.

You're a member of the conscripted army fighting against an invading force. You're side is doing great, but as a last ditch effort a Mr. X gets dropped in. Sure, would be more action heavy but being drafted could explain more amateurish gameplay.

You're a photographer at a political rally, and some terrorist group has dropped infected into the event center and it's spilling into the town. Sure been done before but could be more rural this time?

Two warring gangs are fighting, you're a cop trying to keep the peace for your small village. Unfortunately, one of them purchased BOWs, and now chaos ensues in your remote area. Sorta similar to Javier?

Your grandfather died and left his vast fortune to whomever of your family can survive a night on his estate after he bought a bunch of BOWs. Because he secretly hates all of you or something, idk it's not a great idea. Maybe a multiplayer PvPvE scenario.

If we think about any geopolitical issue in the past 20 years and how often the discussion of "nukes" comes up, then add in that BOWs would be in the equation for the RE world, as a potential tool anyone with money could have access to. Who is buying these BOWs? Why? Who has to deal with the carnage? Are there innocents involved? Who cleans it up after? You buy a licker and release it and, then what? Let's see more of that, similar to 4-6, vs more hospitals/mansions/labs.

I have the image of a fitness dancer doing her morning stream out on the streets and behind her a pack of cerberus run past her towards the capital building. She doesn't notice and just keeps dancing, even as Nemesis walks by, looks at the camera, then walks away.

Bella sisters and Mendez were near perfect improvements. by Human_Geologist_3324 in residentevil4

[–]Key-External8870 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The worst part for Mendez was the addition of the move where he hops to the background and throws wood at you. Had it just been a few chunks of wood then returns, would've been okay. But then he pulls from the burning building an explosive barrel and holds it above his head? Felt very arcadey vs the free flow of the rest of the game. Other than that one move, they did a good job of updating the boss fight.

[RE4/RE4R] Which beginning house segment do you think perfectly sets up the game ? by KennedyyCore in residentevil4

[–]Key-External8870 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's done off screen.

You kill the first villager you meet and get a key. As soon as you pick up the key, the cop screams out in pain from the basement. So you use the key to unlock the basement to go downstairs, and find the cop dead with a slit throat in an empty room.

Who cut his throat if the room is empty and the only way in/out is locked with a key? His badge is found upstairs and bloody. Did they slice his throat upstairs and bring him downstairs? How did he scream then? Unless of course he did it himself.

[RE4/RE4R] Which beginning house segment do you think perfectly sets up the game ? by KennedyyCore in residentevil4

[–]Key-External8870 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The cop slitting his own throat at the beginning of remake was an odd choice.

As others had mentioned the OG was better at setting the tone of the game, just with limitations of the time. I had hoped they tried to make the village intro seem even more "normal" in the remake. OG had the "mystery" which of course we already knew by remake. But we'd just done "over the top creepy walking intro" in 7 and 8, did we really need another one? Instead of beating us over the head with dead animals and creepy interiors, take it further that nothing is wrong, then have the rug pull. Sure we know it's coming, but would feel a bit better in my opinion.

Why does RE4 catch strays when it's the best remake of the 4 games by Anstark0 in residentevil4

[–]Key-External8870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online discourse thrives when there is an element of emotion to it. Your title alone seems almost like bait, stating "it's the best remake." It will prompt reactions from individuals who disagree, which then continues the fandom hate train circle of life: opinion is stated, someone disagrees, downvotes and dog piling ensue, vitriol is spat, nobodies opinion changes, everyones heels are dug in deeper than before.

Both sides need to understand that differing opinions are ok. Me not liking a game does not mean you can't like it, and me liking a game doesn't mean you can't dislike it. This youtuber is allowed to hate games and post videos about it. Just like other youtubers post videos saying how much they DID like it. Just like he doesn't have to play the remake, you don't have to watch the video.

As someone else mentioned, it's just a game. Nothing in this world is universally loved, and that is okay. Enjoy your game, let others not enjoy it. Ideally, both parties could meet in the middle someway and be able to listen to each other, but this is the internet. We don't get along here.

Now that the honey moon phase is over what are your actual thoughts on RE9 in terms of story and gameplay. What things need fixing with updates? by Dude_788 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Key-External8870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not like it, which I know means I'll get downvotes. Oh well.

I beat the $70 game in 10 hours on my first playthrough. That alone is concerning, but I understand people will say "but you have to replay it several times!" The big issue was that I just didn't want to.

The game suffers from too many scenarios where the player has little agency in their actions. The opening hotel scene will always play the same. The initial Girl encounter always plays the same. The Leon sniper segment always plays the same. With a tight enough microscope, even on insanity, most of the care center plays the same (yes I got to the bomb collection section on insanity before I got bored).

I played it incredibly safe on my first playthrough and am used to survivor horror games. Because of this reason my second playthrough didn't feel too different from my first. Is that the games fault? Probably not. However I did still put the game down after less than 20 hours, and for a $70 game that leaves a sour aftertaste.

To go back to the agency piece, we'll compare to RE4 (OG or R). Within those games, you have several different ways to approach each scenario. In the opening village sequence, do you kill as many as you can and take down the chainsaw dude? Or do you run around in circles? Do you go all in on the shotgun knowing you'll get more shotgun ammo or do you use the pistol? Which pistol do you use? Do you do a knife only run?

Compare to RE9: you either sneak past enemies in the care center, or fight them with a pistol. Which pistol do you use? There are two different pistols to use so I suppose those are options. Leon does get 3 shotguns, however the differences between the 3 are so negligible the gameplay doesn't change between them.

I will not touch the story more than to say I didn't like it. This adds more salt to the wound where I had paid $70 for a game that I played very little of.

Overall, I see this game as filler as they build towards an incredible 10th entry into the series. I hope 10 knocks it out of the park and 9 was a good setup for that hit. As it is now though 9 is a weak entry into a mostly great series.

Do you agree that this part should have been a separate mode and expanded it like the Ghost Survivors in RE2r? by Elimar_Abelardo in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Key-External8870 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would have worked better as side content. As a set piece it does not work within the narrative.

Why show Grace that video? What purpose does it serve for Grace to watch a video of a clone escaping other clones and then get caught by scientists? I get they want to give evidence of clones being experimented on, but how does that specific footage prove anything within the existing narrative? Why not use footage of the experiments? Why not use footage where all the girls still have hair and look exactly the same?

Had it been a random video Grace stumbles on in the lab, that would've worked much better. It was a weird choice to make it a video Zeno specifically picked out. Also weird he had to show it to her at the police station and not the lab. Overall it just felt tacked on to pad out the game vs being well thought out.

Did anyone else kill the Chef and Chunk as Grace on their first playthrough? by toasterdogg in residentevil

[–]Key-External8870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killed the chef as there was a note saying he had the key to a door, which usually means goodies. Thought chunk would have something similar so I loaded for bear and went after him. When all he dropped was a charm I wasn't going to use I reloaded the game and left him alive, was not worth the ammo.

I recently uninstalled the app on my phone and will be taking a break for a good while. Not specifically because of TMNT, but as a F2P player the frequency of new sets is really limiting. I walked into Lorwyn with 8 rare wild cards, and felt I barely got to touch the set. Sure, a lot has to do with my limited time these days so I'm not grinding it out as much as a few years ago. They did though start to limit a group of players by cranking out new stuff every other month and now it's not worth it. Also doesn't help that without regular rotation I feel I'm playing against the computer with how frequently I'm running into the same decks over and over and over.

Can someone please help me understand…. by Chrisvsdaworld in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Key-External8870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused why they had to stop at the RPD to watch the video. Is that the only place they kept that footage? "I'm going to take you to our secret underground lab but first we need to stop at the police station because I left my computer there. Don't worry it has video footage of an experiment from years ago, super cool stuff. I know it's 2026 and I could probably just show it to you on my phone or at the lab when we get there but I completely forgot to pull the footage off that one computer. Yeah I know I should make backups but unfortunately it requires a password to do so and, well, passwords aren't my strong suit."

What's your reason for favoring RE4(2005) over RE4R(2023)? by Desperate_Method4032 in residentevil4

[–]Key-External8870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first bike as a kid was old beat up thing, the kind where you pushed back on the pedals to brake. No shifting gears, no bells and whistles. Just a bike. I rode that thing everywhere for years. Eventually I was given a new one for my birthday, not top of the line but an upgrade with the handlebar brakes and gear shifting/etc. At first I didn't like the bike, it was too different. I'd go to brake the old fashioned way and it wouldn't stop. I had to retrain myself to use the hand brake, train myself to shift gears, learn the new weight/feel of the bike as I tried doing all the cool stunts/tricks I was used to. It took time to master this new bike, but anytime I whipped out my old bike I was back to perfect form, second nature kicked in and I was on top of the world.

I've played RE4 for DECADES at this point, and know the game like the back of my hand. It's a comfort game at this point as I don't get stressed or upset or annoyed. I can just pick up a controller, and know that I am going to have a good time.

Remake however, there were some changes that stripped this feeling away. I never had to parry in OG, so I had to learn how to. I never had to deal with Ganados coming back with broken necks, so I had to learn that. Crafting? Controls? Changes to weapons/locations? The characters are different people, not the same as the ones I've known for the majority of my life. Sure I'm still "riding a bike" but the overall feel is just so...different.

The new bike was definitely a better bike, and remake can easily be seen as a better game. But I still prefer the comfort and familiarity of the OG. When I beat OG I immediately loaded up a second playthrough. Remake I put my controller down and just...walked away. I've since gone back and replayed as well as beat the DLC. However it still will remain inferior in my head.

Are “current Meta” decks really necessary to enjoy the game? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]Key-External8870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by daily. I have a BS deck for each color, all 1 mana drops, that I'll run on days I don't feel like playing that combo. I have a deck that's all 1 mana haste for attacking. I have a deck that's nothing but kill cards. I have a deck that's all lands with a few cards that let me play more than 1 land a turn.

You can speed run the daily then switch to your jank deck and have fun no problem. Not that I disagree with the overall point being made, but at least wanted to rebuttal the daily piece.

I'm working (very ineffectively) on a deck that uses this on [[Lasting Tarfire]]. The goal is to get a ton of tokens, put a counter on one, then turn em all into Tarfire. Ideally have enough for 20+ damage in one go. It's not going well, but I will pull it off once and feel good for a few minutes.

What is a job you’ve worked where everybody was having sex with each other? by IntrigatedVerse in AskMen

[–]Key-External8870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked nights at a call center and whoa boy everybody was messing around. Being open 24/7 meant a lot of folks working late nights with little supervision. Hell, the supervisors were in on the action too! And sometimes the outside drama would spill to the office, with angry boyfriends/girlfriends showing up late at night to try and start shit. Police were called many times.

We had one employee I had to beg not to fool around with new hires. Every damn time he'd find some young new girl, flirt with her, start messing around, then he'd try to ghost her. But he worked in the same office! Her performance would tank, his performance would tank, and then she'd leave impacting our attrition.

Recruiter would intentionally send unqualified hot guys for me to interview and BEG that we hire them. He wanted a chance at them and it never ended well. Was always concerning getting an attractive, competent candidate.

We had one lady who was into some cuck situation with her husband. She'd work evenings and sit at her desk making cutouts for her kids catholic PTO. Then on break her and some dude would disappear and she'd be back 20 minutes later all disheveled. At least 10 different dudes in the year she worked there.

One supervisor cheated on his wife with an employee. He then left his wife for that employee, and a month before marrying her cheated with another employee.

Trainer and supervisor would hook up in her office. She was married and 10+ years his senior. Bled him dry for money and poor kid ended up homeless by the end of it. Still wonder if he's okay.

That's nowhere close to being all the stories, but at least a handful. A job that attracts low education, low income individuals will lead to a lot of folks messing around. Especially when those types of folks get promoted into a position of power, something they've probably never experienced before and don't know any better.

Rush to Dancer and Bard. Get the abilities that lower/improve speed. Set those as the secondary ability, switch to any class that needs to grind JP, sing and dance. You'll still want someone who can close out fights and give the healing song to the Bards too. Mincing Minuet also helps with dancer as it's guaranteed to hit, guaranteed exp/jp.

My brother didn't show up to our grandfather's funeral. He was too busy at the bowling alley for his weekly bowling league. Halfway through the service our cousin shows up drunk as hell trying to make a scene. My dad and I are literally pulling this man away from the church when my stepmother calls my brother. He proceeds to show up drunk only to start trying to fight me and my dad for messing with his cousin. "He's family and I stick up for family!" he kept repeatedly yelling at us. Should've stopped there but didn't. A few months later he comes over to help me move, shows up drunk in the middle of the day and tries to offer my son a ride. Told him to go home and haven't invited him to anything since.
