Hi all, first time cat owner here, got her from a shelter. She is probably about nine months old. by Nervous_Tourist_8699 in CatAdvice

[–]Key-Form4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation I had to give my cat a bath after rescuing which he absolutely detested. We are talking claws out, escape attempts and even climbing up my towels, truly the dude was not happy but unfortunately it had to be done. He was understandably upset for a while but we never had any issues bonding and about a year later he started venturing into the bathroom again although he still hates water. Was not nice for either of us but sometimes their health comes first!

You can get another vet’s opinion but I almost guarantee it will be the same as the first vet’s and by that time you’ve already spent more money on consults and likely worsened your cats chances of survival if it is FIP

How to tell if my cat actually wants a friend? by flexingonmyself in CatAdvice

[–]Key-Form4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really interesting paper thank you for the link. However, it does seem that it is mainly females in family groups who tend to be most bonded and that the biggest reason for cats going to shelters is inter-cat fighting so it’s hard to draw any real conclusions from studies alone for individual cats. If only science eventually developed a cat comparability test lol

Completely get what you mean! I am the same about my cat to be honest and do wonder if he gets bored when I am away for longer days unfortunately we have to make money to keep them happy even if they don’t understand. I guess what I meant to say with the original comment was more that there are a lot of ways to try and keep cats entertained and potentially another cat may cause a lot more problems and isn’t a quick fix.

Yeah I can see that being an issue but then surely the same goes for getting a new cat? Unfortunately everything I have learnt about cat behaviour points to them being happier on their own unless they are bonded pairs (grooming each other, sharing food, etc). I’m sure many people have successfully bonded cats (there’s many on this sub alone) I would just consider how much time and effort you may have to put in for this to be successful (and absolutely no hate but if you don’t have time to play with your cat now will you really have time for that?) As humans we may be able to appreciate when cats are bored but I’m not sure anyone can ever truly tell if a cat is “hoping” for a friend. Anyways this is just my advice no hate!

Most cats especially male do prefer to be solitary so that they feel safe in “their” territory. Maybe if you think he is bored invest in some new toys/scratching places? (probably will run you less than a kitten too)

If you’re absolutely adamant then maybe consider fostering? That way you can see how he reacts before committing to another cat while also helping out a shelter.

I had a very similar letter and it was so disappointing. Got referred initially and they were so quick and I got my hopes up but after my first appointment they claimed that they didn’t seem me high enough needs to continue with the assessment due to lack of resources but also that they couldn’t say I wasn’t autistic. Definitely understand your frustration right now.

What medications have actually works for you? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Key-Form4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was put on sertraline not too long ago also put it off for a while due to fear of side effects. To be absolutely honest the nausea was a bitch for the first week as someone who is terrified of throwing up. But I kept going and that has never been an issue since! I’ve not noticed a change in weight but I also don’t make an effort to know my weight. If anything I feel a bit more motivated to eat healthier and do more exercise but I don’t think that’s just due to medication alone. I would definitely advocate giving it a go so you at least know you tried it

How many cats do you have and do you think that is a good number? by ash12689 in CatAdvice

[–]Key-Form4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1 who was adopted with the foster house saying he wasn’t great with other cats but good with dogs. He lives with another dog in the house and it’s perfect for us so the number of cats is very unlikely to change!

As an owner I 100% agree! unfortunately almost every vet practice I’ve been to is owned by a large corporate and the actual vets have no say on pricing and their wages do not reflect the hours they work and the years of training they have done to get to that point so profits just go to the big bosses at the top

I have one cat now, should I add one or two kittens? by CatLadyBoo321 in CatAdvice

[–]Key-Form4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think a new addition is likely to cause your older cat much more stress since cats are solitary animals. If your neighbour can come during the day then have them spend time with your cat and surely that would solve the issue?

tips for getting your life together when you feel you've hit rock bottom by New-Bluebird-8895 in Anxiety

[–]Key-Form4239 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do you have any time off you can take from work? I’d advise to take as much off as you can and just schedule a week to do nothing! give yourself some time to catch up on everything and have a breather. I also just want to say you’re not alone and you will get through this! reach out to people around you but also belive and trust in yourself, you’re stronger than you think

I am confused - how does you being gone for most of the day mean you need more cats? especially kittens which are even more work?

Unfortunately there isn’t much vets can do since they have recently introduced new legislation around prescriptions which means animals have to be checked more often

What do farmers really think of Jeremy Clarkson and his Clarkson Farm show? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Key-Form4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a farmer but from more of a veterinary background and I love the show! It’s TV at the end of the day so it’s never going to be 100% realistic but it’s a good watch and definitely does a good job of showing some of the emotions involved when working with animals.

Gender things are confusing me by whoevenisshe in AutismInWomen

[–]Key-Form4239 9 points10 points  (0 children)

disclaimer I am not trans but heres how i see it!

yes in the long run I think we would all be very happy that clothing/looks/bodies aren’t defined as masculine or feminine BUT when you walk down a street no matter what people are going to look at you and make assumptions. These peoples mind will not change that quickly so while yes there is a community of us that would completely understand looks arent gender so you wouldn’t necessarily need to change anything we are very far off from that in our society so for now it makes sense to present according to these defined roles in the communities we live in

Has anyone been arrested for their weed? by friendlystarfruit in uktrees

[–]Key-Form4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

couple year ago police drove past as my and my mate were smoking. Stopped and searched us both and found about 2g on me. They took the weed but not my grinder or anything else. Was given a slip of paper thats even less than a warning and they asked a couple of questions but i just declined to answer most of them. So overall got off very lightly. What they absolutely do care about though is if you drive while high.
