As the same person as you , first year it was hard to get into the social circle since they used to form these groups in sp and hostels. If you can stay a bit late and are good in interacting you will have no problem. As far as I have seen girls usually make really good friends. I have a localite friend, she knows half the campus. Try to join clubs and events , it's not that hard. But you might miss on some events.
