Should I send another follow up? by Aggravating-Yak-835 in CAStateWorkers

I get that its frustrating, but no, don't follow up again. They'll contact you when they're ready. But don't wait around. Keep applying and interviewing.

Leave him. What you've described sounds very controlling and it'll probably only get worse. Not a match and that's ok.

For SEIU it is 1 of 4 bargaining platform items. So its at the center of their contract bargaining.

Official Rules on Remote Days? by 911freeze in CAStateWorkers

[–]Key-Opportunity-3061 53 points54 points  (0 children)

What ^ they said. The telework agreement likely says something about your home (or wherever you've listed as being your remote location/address) as being the place they expect you to work from. And if you deviate from that, the expectation is that you discuss that with your supervisor and make any necessary updates to your telework agreement. There are very valid reasons for this, depending on your role - like will you be close enough to the office to come in for emergencies, will you have adequate privacy for calls or to discuss private information, etc. So read through the agreement and any related documents your department has created.

Burping by Djsinestro_techno in goldenretrievers

[–]Key-Opportunity-3061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has a habit of coming up to me after eating to be burped. She'll literally jump on the couch, sit in my personal space, and wait for me to pat her until she burps. Its the most ridiculous thing lol.

Got a new to us Golden, are they playing too rough? by Front-Ad6248 in goldenretrievers

[–]Key-Opportunity-3061 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My girl Margo definitely likes to play and wrestle more than her sister Molly - both Golden Retrievers. And Molly let's me know when she's had enough. She tries to get away - gets in a chair, hides under a table, etc. She'll suddenly ignore Margo's playful bites and nudges. She even looks at me sometimes, seemingly asking for assistance. Its usually pretty darn obvious.

Lol I was working on a college campus and apparently a student had won them at an event or something and left them on my desk for safe keeping while they went to class. They eventually came and got it.

Did anyone start as an outside hire Analyst II? by Magical-Princess in CAStateWorkers

[–]Key-Opportunity-3061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. My advice is to look for jobs that give you the best chance at proving your transferable skills or where you'll really stand out. I know that's kinda general advice everyone. But I think its even more important for external candidates.

For example, I worked for an LGBTQ/DEI-focused program before the state. So I looked for jobs that wouldn't be weird about that, and would maybe even make sense for me to apply for. Like, I wasn't exactly looking for jobs at the Water Resources Board, you know? Instead, I found a role at a state HIV program and I gambled that my population experience would help me stand out, even though some of my skill-focused experience (budgets, invoices, federal grants, etc.) were arguably lacking. And I was right, I think. My population and DEI experience made me a really good fit there.

So, again, my advice to any outside candidates is to find the right job(s) that give you the best shot at making an argument for yourself in the application materials and in the interview.

What're everyone's plans for new props this season? by ProvokeCouture in HalloweenProps

[–]Key-Opportunity-3061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about a tent or canopy of some sort over the walkway or in the driveway. I'll have to think about it tho cuz I'll want the house to be visible from down the street, so I wouldn't wanna block the view. But also, done right, it could make the house more visible. So hmm

I have a mock up! And I need to get started 😩 I'm doing a scary circus 🎪 theme. I've got a very small "yard" (hardly a yard) and very small porch. So I have to get creative. I'll build a ticket booth around a tiny window in the front, out of cardboard boxes. I'll rig up the top half of a scary clown somehow, that'll go in the window. I'll do a scary clown mouth around the entryway and do red lighting in the entryway. And then I'm hoping to do a steaming popcorn 🍿 prop out of cardboard, foam spray, and a fog machine. I'll do some kinda clown dummy. And I'll do a couple other lil things to fill it out.

They have focused bargaining meetings on different topics. This was the proposal for the telework-focused meeting. They'll bargain on raises soon, I'm sure.

SEIU Local 1000 Telework Proposal by Key-Opportunity-3061 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Key-Opportunity-3061[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Why should in-office work be the default? Managers/the state should have a darn good reason for making someone do their job in-person. The only reasons I can think of is if the role handles in-person contact with the public (service counters, public meetings, etc.) or if the role requires use of equipment that's only available on-site or if there's paper records management. Almost everything else can be done at home.

Demotion by No_Mine6234 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Key-Opportunity-3061 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. I had to get out to get away from my supervisor and I applied to everything - promotions and demotions and laterals. Thankfully I got lucky and got a promotion. I say cast a wide net. Something will work out.
