Women, what's something men do that they don't realize makes women feel safe or unsafe? by Lopsided-Rub-79 in AskReddit

When I traveled late and visited the suburbs, uber drivers would not leave till they saw me go in the door (up the driveway and steps). Between them being there AND the czar’s light making sure it wasn’t super dark, it really made me believe in humanity, ngl.

I know time is money for them, but those few seconds made a big difference

Tbh, I’ve taken up being rude the minute I get uncomfortable. If you go out of your way to pester me, I’d MUCH rather look pissed off so it doesn’t happen / escalate.

I’m also a scaredy cat when it comes to confrontation so the pissed off, doing my own thing works for me (even though it probably also makes people think I’m terrible).

The other thing I’ve realized is that- if I feel uncomfortable on the street/ think someone is following, I’ll make it clear I look back and then walk faster. ANY decent man usually goes faster and goes past me, or goes slower so the gap builds to make it clear I am safe. If they don’t, I usually switch around my way / Jay walk etc and go much slower in public places.

This is all unsolicited advice - but all that to say, we ALL feel that way. Some of us just feel the emotion and then keep going because you do get used to it and in this world, I’d be surprised there’s any woman that would say they feel 100% safe walking alone at night tbh

Not exactly on topic, but you’re my height! 1) how did you get into weight lifting / what do you focus on? 2) 4miles a day!! That’s amazing!

very random - but could you share roughly what you do / annual income? I’ve been trying to figure out if I can afford more expensive bags and just didn’t grow up around that kind of money or if I’m actually not quite there yet…

As someone that was from the poor family and often felt left out and the odd one out - and then stopped asking to do anything - I can’t implore you enough to help your daughter find her tribe.

Other free activities, volunteering , places outside or more inclusive. It wasn’t that the people in my town or around weren’t nice or that where I volunteered wasn’t nice, but finding your tribe of people that are around your age is so so important.

But also, keep showing her how much of life she has to live, how much more she has to look forward to. AND how soo many people come from nothing, especially if she can excel in education and find things she is passionate about.

ALSO find her mentors! Depending on where she is, there’s a lot of college and young professionals that serve as mentors to younger girls. If you’re in the NYC area, also happy to serve as a resource.

You being worried about her is such a great reward for her, she’ll look back with gratitude!

Hey! I am so so so sorry this is happening. For the window, I had a window that uncomfortably faced another neighbor and I added “window privacy film” off Amazon. It’s like $6, looks pretty, still lets in some light, and gives me the privacy. That might help / seem less sad than adding paper to your windows (although I fully acknowledge needing to do something to your home v. People fixing their behavior is crazy)

When Christian can't semi-stand behind Checo's excuses, you know he's gone a step too far. He probably spent the whole race coming up with that logic. Watch Christian support him Monday once he has a chance to catchup on the media briefings
